Question about making a website...

Do I need to go to hostgator or godaddy and purchase a domain? Or is this free to do? Also if I were to link youtube videos on my website is it just like a copy/paste sort of thing? What I mean is the things that people have on websites did they write scrips and codes for that themselves or is it like copy and pasting a web url onto a webpage? Also how do would I make the webpage fancy looking and generate traffic. Last but not least how would I set up an account to get paid by clicks? Is this done by a pay pal account or something? How exactly do people that make on on the internet get paid? Do they link a bank account through the web hosting company and get a check every month? Thanks again

There are answers to all your questions in this forum already... just take your time and have a good read. I'd start a Wordpress blog, get own hosting and choose a domain that refelcts my interests and where I post something that I'm keen on... or something that makes money

Just study each of the steps... no need to rush things up. There are lots of freebies in this forum, download them and learn.

domain is very much necessary and godaddy is the most effecient webhost. Free domains are also available but it is not considered as ur property. For a newbie blogger wordpress is an easy software to create a website.

Lets take match.com for example. Did the creator of that site script and code that himself or did he purchase that from a domain such as godaddy and built it? What I mean is the layout is totally different and has forums. How is all that implemented into a website?

    1) Do I need to purchase a domain name?
Yes, if it is a .com or a .co.uk or a .info or whatever, you will need to purchase the domain name. Usually they are pretty cheap; $10 or under. Head on over to namecheap or godaddy or whatever provider you choose to use to purchase one.

    2) Extra information...
You will also need to purchase web hosting for your site. The same sites which offer you domain names will usually offer you hosting as well, check them out for the latest pricing and check out a few different sites and reviews to get the best deal.

    3) Do you need to write a script to put your Youtube videos on your webpage?
NO! But I am going to make the assumption that you know nothing about writing HTML or CSS or any sort of coding or scripting because you are asking this question.

Which most likely means that once you buy hosting and a domain; you will not know how to build a website anyway.

So: it may be best if you use a service which builds the website for you and is simple to edit in realtime - something like "freewebs".

Otherwise I sugguest you do a spot of reading on basic HTML and CSS. (There's tonnes of information available for free, Google will help you find it ;] )

But - as far as actually answering your question: it IS a copy and paste thing - on the actual Youtube page where your video is hosted, there will be a button saying "share" and clicking this will generate a code which you simply copy and paste onto your page.

    4) How do Internet Marketers get paid?
It depends on how they monetize their sites. Clickbank (an affiliate network and marketplace) pays by cheque, fortnightly. Other CPA and Affiliate providers pay by Paypal.

I hope this was helpful enough - if you need any more information let me know and I'll go into more detail.

Edit - Missed a question.... (Sorry)

    How Do I Generate Traffic?
There are multitudes of ways but the key is the content on your site - your content must be good valuable content so that people come back to your website.

Then it is all about promotion.

You can promote your site by advertising at a cost to yourself, using Google or any other number of advertising agencys.

Or, you can use Social Media such as Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Google+ and the likes to spread the word about your website.

Article Marketing is a popular (and free) way of gaining promotion, where you would be writing on-topic articles and submitting them to article directorys, you then link to your site in your signature.

You need to ensure your SEO is on-point so that you rank on the search engines and get "backlinks" to your website.

Furthermore there are many offline options available to you - consider attending some fundraising events for charity while holding banners or wearing T-shirts with your website on - or hold a competition - that sort of thing.

You seem like a complete and utter newbie - which isn't a bad thing - so I suggest the first thing you do is READ! Read about: "Article Marketing" "Viral Marketing" "SEO"

        Hey your welcome

Yes I am a mentor - though I prefer to say that I am also a student myself, and always will be (we should never stop learning!)

I will send you an email now from my personal account - it's always good to hear ideas from newbies, I have found that often the guys that don't have years of expierience are the ones that come up with the best ideas because they haven't placed any limitations on themselves (which often comes with knowledge).

I need to make a few things clear publically first though; first of all, I don't normally give mentoring for free - but this time I am, it must just be one of those things that happens in life - and secondly; if you ideas are unethical in anyway then I will have nothing to do with them.

          To the OP -

You need to slow down before you run right off a cliff. Your questions are about the same as asking how to build a profitable business from beginning to end...and you won't learn that in one forum thread.

There's a search function here and the basic questions could be answered quickly with a simple google search. Most successful marketers don't have time to donate to someone who has done nothing to learn the basics for himself before beginning to ask questions.

What makes me pause is this comment farther down....

I have a few ideas pertaining to making websites and ad clicks.
Odd comment for someone totally new to everything online.

Odd comment for someone totally new to everything online.
I agree with you on all levels except about the comment.

Even to somebody totally new to internet marketing, it doesn't take a new york minute to discover that the basic formula is usually: Content + Traffic + Clicks = Money.

There are about 7 large internet marketing forums bursting with information - certain forums better than others, certain ones ethical and certain unethical - it doesn't take a newbie too long generally to get a few ideas.

Personally I'm willing to give people a chance first and foremost - see what this guys really about, as it is soo hard to tell a person from an online profile and a few posts.

Like I said in my post to him - if he's sincere and his ideas are ethical, I'll show him the ropes about how he can get making some money - in all honesty I've got something much bigger planned for a few months time and I'm going to need some loyal brothers on my side - so for me, to give somebody a chance is a win-win.

I've noticed people on forums seem to jump to conclusions ever so quickly; I'm fine with that provided they're running on solid evidence to arrive at their conclusions but most of the time they are not - this is the main reason I usually avoid forums (or rather avoid being a member of forums, I simply use them for other means: discovering information, and inspiration).

Alast I've finally joined the WF though after using the internet for many years! (I've also joined DeviantART lately as well, I don't know what's wrong with me lol)

            Just my 2 cents,

Anyway OP I've sent you an e-mail, if your smart you'll get back to me, if not then it's your loss and I wish you all the best with your online business.

            EDIT - To Kay King...
I hope my comment didn't sound offensive - I just re-read my post and I might sound abit ****ty on it - and to do what I think your saying justice: I have noticed soo many "newbies" that say all these "odd comments" and then disappear, or they simply spam in a smart way to get their post count up believing it will establish them a "first glance repuation". Anywho I've got to lock off for the night, got some painting and decorating to do! wonderful! lol

You're letting yourself get caught in information overload. You need to start thinking smaller.
First you can buy a domain (.com, .net, .biz, etc) through godaddy or any other host company. I personally use bluehost.
Then move on to step 2. Set up a website. Learn Wordpress.

Just break down your questions into easy actionable steps.

    Addressing your first question:
The best name registrars make crappy hosts, and vice versa. I always register my domains with one company and host with another. I recommend namecheap.com for domain names and hostgator.com for hosting.

NOT RECOMMENDED: Godaddy for hosting (fine for domain names though), or 1&1 for ANYTHING, absolute bunch of spoonheads.

Yes you need to buy a domain at godaddy. The best place to buy out there and you will need to pay host gator as well. They are totally separate services and will serve you differently. Any other technical or confusing question, you can try out host gator customer support. The best line of people out there that can help you out. I am constantly talking to them and it's 24 hours as well.

As for youtube vids, I recommend you get the smart youtube plugin. All you do is copy and paste the link. Just make sure when you see the http:// part, you need to add httpv:// to make the plugin work.

My suggestion since you're new is to take it one step at a time. If you do this all together, you will mess up and feel overwhelmed. Don't rush it.

Hi, I use d9 hosting and wordpress for my site. If you don't mind me saying it sounds like you need a mentor. It can be a very long learning curve online and as a newbie it's so easy to get sucked in to all the hype and B.S. You'll just be left suffering from info overload. Best advice I can give is get a mentor. Closely model and learn from someone who already knows what they are doing.

Where can I find a mentor willing to teach me? I recently lost my real life job so I can't go spending several hundred dollars for a mentor. I'm willing to watch and learn since I don't have a day job now but are people willing to teach someone new like that? Also in your signature when I clicked that link, what is that called a hostdomain correct? Did you put that site together? Also is that what makes you say 5k or more a month or whatever it is that you make a month? What I mean is, do you get paid via adense each time someone clicks to view your signature website?

I agree with the others in this thread about taking your time and search WF for clear answers before spending any money.

In the beginning, I burned $500 simply because I didn't take the time to find out the information I needed to actually make money.

I think every bit of knowledge you need to start Internet Marketing is right here.

Good luck! Always ask yourself twice if you really need to spend the money.

Do you know that the questions you asked could only be covered by no less than 5 or 6 ebooks? You're going to have to do some research. Use Google as well as the search feature on this forum. Don't expect the answers to be in one thread. You've asked how to build websites and how to make money which is far too broad for anyone to answer.

The best thing to do is to use wrodpress. Every thing is done for you so you don't need any website design skills or anything else.
You can use a free wordpress Template but the premium one's are always better.
    Good luck mate.

I guess there are several answers to your questions - so let me try and break it down.

Yes - the very first thing you should do is purchase a domain name with godaddy or whatever other domain provider you wish to use.

Next your going to want to open a hosting account ( I prefer hostgator ) but it's your choice where you decided to host your domain name.

Once you have completed those two steps your going to want to either create an HTML site or a free wordpress site. ( You have the option of outsourcing all this as well - Also if you conduct a search on google you can find tons of free templates according to your niche)

However - If you're really serious about learning the IM business - then I recommend you learn how to create your own html or wordpress sites. (it will come in handy - trust me)

Once you've created your html or wordpress site you need to learn how to drive traffic to your site. ( and yes you will have to learn some html code if you want to add video to your site - but its easier than you might think... No Joke )

Also youtube videos provide you with the code neccessary to add to your site all you have to do is install it...

From there you can either build a list ( which in my opinion is the best way ) or you can promote a product to sell right off your page.

    Hope this helps...

That would definitely be the best thing to and that's to purchase a domain name from GoDaddy.com for instance. create a domain name and then proceed to step 2. which would be to do your studies as to what exactly it you would like to do. there are many threads on WF for that. just take a glimpse at all the information on here
