Duplicate content penalty?

I have a question regarding duplicate content and I'm wondering if my sites will be punished because of it.

I currently have a website which has been around for about one year and now is on page 1 of Google for my keyword based url. My big problem is that I now realize I could have received over 1,000 times higher traffic had I chosen a better url initially. I've gathered this research using the Google Adwords Keyword tool. Even though I'm ranked in the top 5 regularly in Google - this only amounts to a couple hundred visitors per month.

So my plan is to create a new webpage, with a much more targeted url, to act as a Squeeze or funnel page to capture new organic visitors, however this site will essentially have the same content as my original squeeze page.

Do you see any potential problems with me having essentially the same content on both squeeze pages?

Duplicate content is only a problem if you are using the same content throughout ONE domain.

You can see this in News sites as many times they all rank at the top for one particular news story. Many times its the same story pulled from the A.P.

The one thing you may run into is the original site ranking higher as Google is working hard to rank the original source of content over similar content.

    I hope this helps.

Don't take content from your website and submit it to article directories and other blog posts, etc. Make sure everything you write is your own and it is all original and you will be fine. You may want to wait until the other domain expires to start this.
