I saw this a moment ago and wondered, not for tattle tale reasons (i can't even remember who it was and don't care lol) but because it would be great for me if it was "legal" -

can you put a fiverr gig link in your sig file? and is there any rule on putting bit.ly or shortened links in the sig file? (wondered why bother with a bit.ly for the fiverr page unless you aren't supposed to list fiverr gigs)

Thanks a bunch!

    JennySweets,

You can put a domain that you own in your sig file, your WSO, or a recognized charity. Though I am not a moderator and am definitely not the last word on any exceptions. Though based on the verbage below, I would think that Fiverr Gigs are not allowed. I'm curious what the mods' take on this would be.

You can use URL shorteners as long as it forwards to a domain that you own (or one of the exceptions listed above).

Here is the sig file part of the sticky at the top of the main forum:

    (5) No Affiliate Links Allowed - Promote Your Own Domain/s Only. It's either this or we have to cut out sig files altogether which we do not want to do.

EDIT ADDED 3 May 2011: The new WarriorPlus affiliate links for WSOs are not allowed either.

    (6) Anyone Caught Promoting The Same Site/Offer Will Be Deleted. Program owners are telling their members to come here and make posts to promote their offer in their sig files. This has caused tons of useless messages to be posted and it is clogging up the forum. Anyone caught doing this will have to be removed. This is not an ad forum - it is a discussion forum.

Edit: We have no problem with someone pointing to their WSO within their sig.

Edit: Due to certain people trying to find a loophole I needed to add yet another edit. Please do not try to get around these rules by getting your own domain name and simply redirecting it to an affiliate program. You Will Be Removed From Here When Caught.

If you want to promote an affiliate program do it on your own domain. Your own web site. Not a "pre-made" web site. Your own web site, a real one. Then put THAT web site in your sig file.

A simple way to stay within this rule is this: Promote Your Own Real Web Site And Do Not Listen To Anyone Who Tells You To Come Here Just To Promote A Site They Created For You.

I don't see anything that says you can't within the forum rules except for the fact your only supposed to advertise your own domains.. However, if it's your fiver gig I don't see why that would be a problem. Just my two cents. Your best option would be to ask a moderator.

Hmm then a facebook fanpage wouldn't qualify either as it's not my own domain? (my sig link is my domain BTW just curious)

      Thanks for the input!

At one point (IIRC), mods allowed some leeway by allowing links to pages you controlled, such as a Squidoo lens or hub, a Blogger blog, etc.

Affiliate links, affiliate redirects, company-provided MLM pages, etc. are not allowed.

And still do. Fiverr gigs would be okay, but you really want to be careful when starting or posting in threads about Fiverr if you include them. Smacks of a bit too much self-promotion.

We're stricter on that one than some others, simply because it's been badly abused by so many people.
