What does it take for you to consider yourself a success in internet marketing?

For me it would be earning 5000$ a day...cause tht would mean.. 150000$ a month... convert tht to indian rupees and i am living a 5 star life..!!

Y'all are very ambitious! If I were regularly averaging $15,000-$20,000 a month, I'd feel that I'd achieved what I wanted. (Earnings tend to fluctuate so much that I'd like to aim for the high side.)

Well, I think and believe not just online success, but success in general term, is about adding to your world... being and asset and attaining freedom...

If you get to that point working online then you have achieved a huge success online

A success is making a living. Period.
Despite the claims by all the gurus, very few people become millionaires on internet marketing. Most of the "gurus" themselves aren't millionaires.

However, remember, if you start your own corp, start making decent money, you get so many other benefits (tax deductible meals, tax deducation on business card, trips...) that working people don't. Plus you set your own schedule.

That is very true. Especially about most gurus not becoming millionaires. There's a lot of exaggeration in the IM business.

Sometimes I feel successful at internet marketing when I have a good day on Adsense... or receive a big commission payment from an affiliate site.

However, my IM goal is to replace the income from my J-O-B so I can work from home every day!

Internet marketing is such a challenge I believe most would just be satisfied to get an income stream started that would continue to grow. Getting it started is the challenge. If you are already making decent income - congrats, you should feel good and maybe consider teaching others how its done.

That would be the "get middle class slowly" method of internet marketing that I'd teach. As opposed to the "Get rich quickly - while lying on a beach surrounded by hotties who cater to your every whim and you work two hours a day" method. I'm trying to figure that one out, but I haven't cracked the code yet.

I used to be a newspaper reporter and I can crank out a lot of excellent copy, quickly, so I made money with infoproducts and ghostwriting, then took a break from that and started doing a lot of press release writing and SEO content writing. I also got involved in social media early and figured out how to use it to promote my SEO content services, and then people started hitting me up for social media coaching. But it was a process that took a while - like about a year - to get to the point where it supported me.

That is a good question. I find myself successful but not thriving successful like some people. I made a website that generated over 20k in a few months, then went and sold it for $7,000. Wasn't all profits in the website sales, but if I can write copy, design and market a website that can do that in my first 3 years of learning the industry I look forward to seeing what else I can do.

I think if you implement and make things happen, no matter how big or small you are successful. It's all about "DOING" in this industry and most people don't do anything just read and then go back to the television not implementing.

If I can start earning 5k a month consistently I accomplished my first goal. That's not saying I am a success and am ready to lay back now, it's just one success of many more to accomplish. Never being satisfied but proud and grateful for what you accomplished is success in my book, it's never really ending.

Well, once you have cash, investments help... Don't spend all your money on "drugs and hookers" (for lack of a better phrase).

Seriously, the code is doing new businesses and not following other people's codes. I've built technology for 10 years...

No drugs and hookers? Jeez, what am I even doing this for? Srsly though...yeah, reinvesting in your business is important so that you can scale up.

I do think there is a lot of value in examining what successful people in my field do to make money. Then, of course, I adapt that to make my own blueprint.

I've owned three and run two businesses that did $20-$120M/year in revenue.

I can tell you the best thing to do is stick to you guns, work really hard on one plan and focus on that. If you have something that works, investigate how to expand it.

My first huge break was after I helped found a company that was approached by a major company at the time (just had changed names) and they wanted a traffic method. The company I worked/owned part of didnt want to work with them.

So I took the idea of doing pops on targeted websites (we are talking 1999/2000) and popping up their website. The result was I was being paid $100cpm+. My first company didnt want to work with them, so I took over the account. Eventually was making so much money that I started doing that full time. I then realized targeted pops work, started working with dozens of other companies doing the same thing.

The point was that I took one good idea and expanded it.

What it takes to be considered a success in internet marketing is to be on your P&Q's and to have a goal that you personally set for yourself. if you can make your goal and please the attention of the traffic received to your website, you have been considered successful.

Anyone who tells you they have the "secret" to fast, easy money in internet marketing...run the other way! There are plenty of people who make a fulltime living online - I'm one of them - but it took me a long time. It takes time to build up a reputation so that people will want to buy from you, it takes time to build up traffic to your websites so that you can make sales or get adsense money or affiliate sales....none of that happens overnight.

There are definitely different levels of success.

For one thing, that first $1 is a level that many people never reach!

Then there's being able to make $50/day regularly.

$100, $200, etc.

I think it's always good to stretch yourself to a new goal, but look back on your past successes and smile, too.

Sucess for me would be when I am in the position to help others. I try to do this today in all walks of my life but to be able to do it online and really change someones life....what more could I want?. This would be more rewarding than any monthly income I create.

Having a stable stragerty pulls that money in your pocket every time. That is what i consider success in internet marketing. It don't really matter how much you know about seo, link building and all the other "important" stuff, but as long as i see no money in bank account.. you aren't successful in IM.

Honestly for me it is just accomplishing what I set out to do. I could be a new website I building, or a new product being launched.

I measure my success by each goal I achieve, so I have multiple layers of success and am always moving forward.

I considered it a success the first month a website allowed me, 100% unaided, to pay my rent, feed my family, provide the things we want (in moderation obviously) and have the freedom to choose how much I work.

Everything beyond that was just bonus, and still is really.

My definition of success is reaching a known goal. Then I set another goal and when reached, that is another success.

As for business, as in my offline businesses, I considered myself (or others) a "business success" when the income from that source only can support them in their lifestlyle.

So for me personally, I have set lots of smaller goals in the IM business and have achieved a number of them so have all those successes.

However, it was in making enough money to consider an income that I considered myself an IM business success.

Of course, this is all pertaining to business particularly, IM as that it what you asked, but being a success in life, well, that includes many other areas because to me, the main goal in life to be a success is to love and be loved, be happy, healthy and leave people and places better than you found them. That is life success to me.

Success means so many things, my long term goal is to build a business that I can sell for $16M, but just having an income that allows me the freedom to spend all the time I need with my family is certainly a success in itself.

Working 16 hours a day just to work at home would not be success for me.

I would consider it a success when one reaches their goals. That could be setting a dollar amount, making a full time income or meeting short term and mid-term goals. For me, it's definitely reaching a high income status. It's not a hobby for me, it's a living...

Success... For all the newbies out there...Is when you make ONE sale online!
It's a great feeling, and you should never compare yourself to all these stories of making $20-40,000 on their first month...Most of them are FAKE!!
Trust me... If you had a SECRET Strategy making you that kind of money...Would you tell anyone?

NOT!!... So the TRUTH be told...Work on your first Affiliate Sale... And In my eyes, you have already succeeded where so many have failed!

Then work on Sale two....Sale Three... And never stop...BUT Don't quit your day job...Atleast NOT yet

I see myself as just a newbie, but to me success would be when I'll make a full living income online while helping people.
I honestly don't care if I'll have to work hard for it. I won't take the easier path if it means creating another useless squeeze page that promises "turbo (insert niche here) boost" crap if you'll sign up to the list or anything similar.
