Improving Clickthrough rates???

I still in my first year of trying to earn money online. I have one site that is earning a little money. The site is getting about 4,000 views a month which was yielding about 300 views to the clickbank product. I decided to make a change which has improved my conversion rates, from about 3% to around 5%. The problem is the clickthroughs have gone down, and I know they were not very good in the first place.

The trend has been going on for months, so I think the data is pretty reliable, even though the numbers are small. Any suggestions to improve my click-through rate????? Most of the people on my site have to click-through twice to end up on the affiliate site. Once to the review page, and again to get to the site. I want the blog to come across very sincere, because it is, and not like an advertisement. Please help! The site I am talking about is in my signature. Thanks in advance!

Thats pretty easy. Just make your call to action a lot bigger. At the moment it's just anchor text. If you download a free piece of software called xheader pro you can make a small graphic with a bigger call to action. This I would imagine would probably nearly double clickthroughs resulting in more conversions.

The more clicks you have to go through to get to the product page, the more people are going to drop off. Maybe they could click right through to the product instead of to your review. Unless they land on your review page first. :-)

You might also try a plugin like quick page/post redirect to mask your affiliate link. I do not know if seeing the clickbank hoplink is a big deal in this market, but in many markets it is.

Maybe you can direct people to the review first. I am a blogger at heart, but the fact is if you are selling a product you need to feature the product. Use the blog as testimonials and have links going back to specific success stories.

Also, I agree on the graphic call to action that Rankomatic mentioned, plus put the button in a few different places.

Finally, you have a product that just seems to work for a small hard core group. Develop your list. I did not see an optin form.

    Hope that helps!

You should capture the visitors attention right way.

I'd say use a banner with a semi big/semi attention grabbing red arrow pointing to your offer/banner or whatever it is that you're promoting.

This way it prompts them to click the first thing they see you know?

I'm sure your website has a ton of great content, which is always going to be there. But you definitely ultimately want to make more sales.

Or if it's your own product then just increase the price from say $19.95 to $29.95.

Your CTR's will still be the same, but you'll earn more money because people will look at $29.99 product and perceive it as a higher value. Then if they exit you could always have a 2nd page pop up with "$10 off" which is fine because you were originally selling it for $19.95 in the first place.

If you're just an affiliate then just capture the attention right way and you'll be fine.

Also in between posts throw another banner in. You have to give the reader the opportunity to click. Because like most of us the first thing we do is SCROLL DOWN.

And if your affiliate link banner or what have you is at the top, that's the last time they'll see it. So just give them more opportunities to see it and they'll come on clicking through!

    hope this helps!

    cheers!

Where is your traffic coming from??

Without this we can't comment on your conversion rates.

A lot of people forget that with organic traffic, the link and relevance between the keywords you are ranking for and the content displayed on your page plays probably THE biggest part in your conversion rates.

For example, if you are selling abstract artwork and rank for the keyword "abstract artwork", at first instinct it probably seems like the best KW to target, on second look you will find that the majority of your visitors are searching for examples of abstract artwork, free pictures of abstract artwork, popular abstract artists, etc. They are not looking to BUY abstract artwork yet because their keyword is too broad. You may get a few sales but the conversion rate would be loooowwwww!

On the flip side, go for "Buy Abstract Art Online", "cheap abstract paintings" etc. or even SPECIFIC abstract artworks will convert a lot higher. - Now you just need to drive the traffic through this medium.

Remember - the search engine search field is the ONLY user-inputted data you get from your visitors, give them what they want.

About 75% of my traffic is organic and about 25% is from forums. The forum traffic seems to be better traffic, but it is kind of hard to tell. My keywords are very targeted, most people are coming for the information, but this is a very desperate groupe of people who will spend money. I know because I was one of those people. I think the traffic is converting pretty well; the problem is getting people to the affiliate site in the first place. The site I am referring to is in my signature. Thanks!

I suggest to add an optin box in your blog by offering a free ebook on your subject, so that you can have a list subscribers and build up a good list.

If you get 2-4 clicks per 1000views (you can count it) that is average stat if you get more that is great. anyways if you get 2-4 clicks per 1000 views in that source it is worth to buy as more as possible.

anchor text is a good way to improve CTR and also make sure your content has a call to action. People like to be told to take some certain action.

Thanks everyone for the helpful responses. I tried to reply a few days ago and kept losing internet connection. So I will give it a try again! As for the opt-in, I know it is needed. I have been a little hesitant to take the plunge and sign up for something that I would have to pay for monthly, but I am to the point where I am willing to take the risk. I know it is not a lot of money, but I recently took a $10k pay cut and added a baby to the mix! I am trying to put together a free ebook, as soon as that is finished, I will be signing up with aweber.

For the poster that asked about where my traffic was coming from.... about 75% of it is from google, and about 25% is from niche related forums. The people who are coming to my site are looking for information, but they are very desperate and are willing to spend if they think something can help them. I know because I was one of them.

One of the suggestions was to send people straight to the review page instead of just to the blog. This is something I have thought about many times before, but hesitated thinking that the viewers would not trust me as much if the first thing they saw was a review???? Any thoughts about that? After the suggestion, I decided to go ahead a make the review a "sticky" page, so that the viewers would see it first. Is this an ok way to go about it? It has only been a couple of days, so I have not seen the impact yet. Thanks everyone. Any other suggestions appreciated.

I've not read all the posts in between but (personally) I'd be interested in how to make the most money. And what hurts click-thrus might improve salves conversions (ie. listing the price on the review page).

It's the same with email marketing. You can worry about open-rates and click-thrus or you can monitor sales. Sometimes what gets the most opens or clicks isn't what makes the most sales.
