Couple of questions about Press Releases

hi everyone,

I have a question for people who have a good experience with Press Releases.

I would like to launch a PR. I am just wondering:

- What is the best paid Press Release Service ?
- Are they giving you what they promising ?
- Did it pay off for you ?
- should me Press Release in a paid one be about a new or about a website launch (which one will be more effective).

- Should I target buyers or sellers ? since it is a marketplace ?

I made bunch of free PR but I don't feel they pay off for traffic. Most likely only for a better ranking.

What is the case with paid PR packages ?

I have used PR web for 2 press releases. I have no experience with any other service, but I wrote the release myself and then it cost about $200 for an SEO release. they let you do a couple of hyperlinks.

What I liked about the service is that it shows you where the article gets picked up and how many people have viewed it after a day or two and some other statistics about how many reads you got, and when you're writing it it gives you suggestions for making it better.

I did have a few people contact me after the release went out, as well.

One service from PR web that I did not pay for or use was the targeted release - if you're hoping to have the release picked up by publications/magazines/etc they have a separate service to pick editors of publications out to send the release to directly.

I have a friend at a marketing firm generate a few direct lists for me so I didn't need to pay for that, but I found that the response for press was much better that way.

The press release online article was great for SEO, though. I even saw a few sites picked it up and spun it (why I have no idea).

the biggest mistake was the blogger mailing list that my friend gave me (about 300 bloggers that had opted in for press releases about certain subjects) I had over 100 responses from them and it was all "let me review your product, send me free stuff!" or "I have advertising space available on my site for $50/month" or "let me review your product, I charge $200"
most of these sites were tiny and not worth anything of anything. I did handpick a few people with good websites to do free reviews for me and after sending them product, not all of them wrote reviews (though most did). And getting them to hyperlink certain words in their review for my SEO was very hard. Some did and understood the SEO aspect and others didn't get it at all.

    Hi Onegoodman,

I think this will help you a lot ..

PR can also a complete waste of time so,

Make sure you have something that is newsworthy to say. Keep it under one page long. Never use a press release as a blatant promotion for your products or services. For important news get the copy written by an expert (try elance.com).

Remember to put your contact details at the end of each press release
Concentrate on the headline. Journalists scan hundreds of headlines a minute. It is your only chance to grab their attention. Next, summarize the whole story in the first paragraph.

If your press release is truly newsworthy, send it directly to newspaper and magazine editors by email. Paste the story into the body of the email; don’t have it as an attachment. Make sure the story is very relevant to what they cover and follow up with a phone call. Your long-term goal should be to build a relationship with the key journalists in your sector.

Add your press releases to your own website or blog. Then email the relevant bloggers in your niche to draw their attention to your press release. Make the approach personal. Never undertake mass distribution. (NB. Never put a press release on your site as a pdf. Most people won’t bother waiting for the file to open).

For important press releases use one of the paid PR distribution services. The ones that I have used are PRNewswire.com, BusinessWire.com, PRWeb.com and PRLeap.com.
For minor, regular press releases distribute via one or two free reputable press release services. The three that we have found work for us are prlog.org , pr.com and pressrelease365.com . Experiment to see which ones works for you.

    Hi,
    1. Press Release Distribution - Submit Press Releases Online - PRWeb
    2. Yes, but depends on a variety of factors like your keyword research
    3. Website launch is the better angle because its more newsworthy
    4. You should target buyers unless your website's targeting sellers
    Best of Luck,

    Justin

I prefer to use PRWeb as a paid service. Does great. 1888 Press Release is a good free one if you want to diversify.
