i did weight loss for a long time and did okay but I didn't stick with it. I do mostly article marketing and just couldn't keep writing about the subject. But it is a huge niche, there's a lot of money to be made there... but also a lot of competition.

i always think health niche is actually GOOD.

But then...there might be many people "just browsing" and looking for health information - so its not really a "buyer's market".

It can convert real well as long as you have targeted traffic...But the pay per click might be very high since it's a highly competitive niche.

Depends upon how you are promoting it ... Here is one article 25 days old and on just one article directory it gets 30 views a day.

  • I wouldn't say you are wasting your time, but the weight loss niche is a very competitive niche, so you might be better off promoting a related field with less competition.

If your chasing the generic terms, like in most niches the lions share of the traffic goes to the big guns (brands).
Like the nation health service etc.
Weight loss is the most sought after keyterm in the fitness niche, try the longer chain keywords, weight loss program(s) weight loss the easy way etc
and lots of people look for free advice, so there are browsers in that niche

I don't believe you are wasting your time, you are still learning every step of the way. But, You have to believe in the product you are selling. This economy is built upon supply and demand. People always want ways to make themselves more attrative and we have more people with health issues. Keep trying or find products that you believe in.

You'll do fine you just have to find out what every one elese is doing and do the opposite without reinventing wheel. If someone is doing direct linking then do a squeez page. If someone is is doing a review page, then do one with a killer bonus offer. You just have to out show your competition.

I like the weight loss niche, but as everyone has said, there's lots of competition.

Initially I didn't pay enough attention to list building, I monetized mainly with AdSense. However, for a good income, a list is a must in this niche.

Once I started to build a list, I did much better. Your readers have to trust you as a source of information.

So that's my recommendation: build your list, and focus on that from the beginning.

      Cheers

You need to ask yourself two questions before you can answer that. And only you know the answers.

    1. How do you define success?
Figure out how many hours you are putting in and what kind of ROI you're generating as a start to answering this question. You certainly could be wasting your time if you're not hitting your own definition of success.

    2. Do you have a plan of action? If so, are you following it?
If you don't have a business plan and a marketing plan you certainly risk wasting your time.

Clearly the weight loss and enhancement markets are big money makers for those who are getting their marketing right. Competition never scares me - it merely reassures me that there is a market for my product.

Wow! You've already got a ton of excellent advice and encouragement.

I agree with all of the above and would add to think more of the longtail keyword niches like "weight loss ebooks for women", "local weightloss clinics", etc. Get into their heads. Go after everything that gets even a few queries per month, they add up. And, secondly, focus on link gathering with anchor text.

      good luck,
      keep on truckin'

        Hello Omari Taylor Here,

Well you have to think about what you're marketing. There are a lot of weight loss product for sale. So you have a lot of competition. You really should look for a more unique niche to market in with less product and people to compete with.

But if you are a good marketer and have the skills then you can make money with no matter what to product is. Remember it is your skills that make you the money. If your organization was to go belly up and close shop you should be able to start with any opportunity and start making money again.

It's a great evergreen niche that will never be short on customers. Just dig a little deeper for lower competition keywords that get 500 to 1,000 searches per month and write blogs and articles targeting those long tail search phrases. Do 10 to 20 of those and you have a great stream of steady traffic coming your way on a regular basis.

I think there are certainly niches that will bring you profits faster, but once your name is known in these bigger niches you'll make a killing.

That being said, it's up to you to decide whether you feel like waiting for big money or going after the smaller fish for now.

I am in the process of re-launching a website/podcast dedicated to diabetes and am trying to put into play some of the things I've picked up here including the list building, I just added ad-sense, and am in the process of figuring out what might be a good affiliate product.

If you have any thoughts on the Diabetes niche, please PM me... If you have any thoughts or ideas about the website, I'm all ears.

So far we haven't made a single dime on this site. But again, we're relaunching...

Only if you think that promoting industries that will have more money spent on them than possibly any others on the planet is a waste of time!? Numbers don't lie...the cultural wave of an aging populus is and will continue to feed those markets for a long time to come. Just continue to tweak your strategies to position yourself for the most ROI.
If you enjoy those industries...stick with them...If not, get out. You need to focus on markets you enjoy for the creativity to flow!

    Hello Omari Taylor here,

How many shakes or pills do you have to sale to get the type of money your looking for? Think about that?

MLM are on their way out and people are quickly going to Top Tier Direct Marketing Products. With Top Tier Direct Marketing you don't have to have a downline the size of the army to make real money. It doesn't even matter if your downline sponsors other people or not. It's a concept called GPT and Mike Dillard speak about it a lot. Check out my sig. for a free report to learn how top earners are making their money. And yes I think you're wasting your time. I would never sale a weight loss product. People can easily go to the store to get a weight loss product.

You are in the right market. Health industry is a multi billion dollar growth industry. The thing you want to do is focus on building a community of people, then offer health realted products to them, in fact, you can market to multiple niche markets and then feed them into your main community (Membership Site)... Good luck...
