Help - How much time for DNS update

Hi,
I bought a new domain and used hosting from another service provider.

The hosting provider said "Please change the DNSes of your domain to the following and allow 24-48 hours for the DNS".

The DNS is set.

Now 24 hrs has passed and I uploaded some files to my file manager but still cant see those files....The website shows a blank white screen....

So how much time it took in your case for DNS update?

Thanks
TC

I have found that this all depends - propagation I think it is called...I don't even know it I spelled that rigt...but anyway - it should be okay with in like 48 hours...no more than 72.

Keep looking atit and if you have to ask your prvider to take a look at it to make sure you set it up just right. I trust that might help.

I wouldn't usually wait more than 2 hours, but it does depend on several factors. I would give your host a call to verify that everything is okay and you've used the right nameservers.

You know Karen, you might be right on that. I set one up today and it was live in like under 5 minutes....but I think it depends on the provider if they are doing the DNS switch (or whatever you call it) It all depends on how they opperate.

Depends all on the place you bought it from. Some take less than a hour some take almost a day. Latest should be 72 hours! Hope everything works out for you!

I use Godadddy and HG, and after I set up my first domain, it only takes a few hours for stuff to work on subsequent sites. That being said, one time I called HG about something and the person on the phone told that that there was a possibility that the DNS servers could have been updated since the last time I purchase domain and hooked it up. You should just call and check.

    Your mileage may vary.

I generally find that it only takes about 10-20 minutes for propagation to occur after I make nameserver or A Name record changes.

Last month (in both cases the registrar was GoDaddy) I did some A Name changes to a couple of domains. The first one took about 12 hours, which really surprised me. The second one took a full 4 days, during which time I was on with GD support who couldn't understand it either.

Also, I notice you are in India. Not sure where your domain registrar is, but if it's in the US it is possible that the domain has started to propagate but has not yet propagated to the DNS servers in your area. Admittedly this isn't that likely these days, but it is possible.

Check your settings and hang in there a little while longer!

Some recursive DNS services cache the information longer than specified with the TTL or are otherwise unreliable. To my experience it takes 24-48hrs maximum. In your case, it is better to chat with your host provider so that they will check and solve the problem if any.

Give it time and let it propagate. It's a new domain and new hosting and it may take a couple days. Worrying about it doesn't speed it up and sometimes it can take a few days.

Repointing the dns of an existing site happens pretty quickly for me - but sometimes new domains take 24-72 hrs.

Check your settings - but don't re-enter the info unless you made a mistake. Re-entering it seems to start the process over and will slow it down.

I use name.com as my registrar and the new DNS settings usually propagate in a few minutes after i make a change...i've never had to wait 24 hours...its probably dependent on who your registrar is and how quickly they update their DNS server lookups...

I would call after a few hours if it it didn't update...but i'm pretty impatient when it comes to things like this...that is why i love name.com, their DNS servers update almost instantly after changes have been made.

    Hi TC;
I work for a web hosting company and deal with inquiries like this on a daily basis so I should be able to help you.

Are you uploading the files to /public_html?
