I am a newbie with some questions about micro niche sites

Micro niche sites attract traffic by targeting keywords with very little competition. If you attempt to rank for keywords such as the cliche "dog training" example, you'll have an extremely difficult time building enough links to achieve any rankings due to the immense competition, but if you target an obscure term like "training poodles in kalamazoo" you may only require a couple links to hit the first page.

Are they easy to run? Sure. Set it and forget it for the most part. The devil is in the keyword selection and the SEO required to rank those lesser keywords.

I've made a lot of money with micro sites, so I know how profitable they can be, but they do require some savvy and determination. Not all micro sites will rank equally, even when you do select a good niche and series of keywords. It's a numbers game... throw a lot of spaghetti against the wall and see what sticks. Eventually you'll have a good assortment earning $1 to $10 a day. Individually they won't make you much unless you strike gold, but combined it can add up.

That said, unless you can outsource everything, they're a major grind. I did outsource the majority of it. Were I to have done the work myself, I doubt I'd have had the patience, but then my business models are generally based on longevity. I'm not against exploiting micro sites, but I favor authority sites that stand the test of time.

Unless you have knowledge of the game and/or some investment capital, it's probably better to crank out a few micro sites yourself rather than rely on others. Learn how to find keywords and niches ripe for attack. Learn how to crank out a quick site with a free WordPress template. Try and do some link work yourself to get a feel for how many, and which types, are necessary to boost a site's ranking relative to competitiveness.

You can certainly outsource certain elements to others from day one, such as building the site or writing some articles, but I'd be careful about paying another company to hand you a "business in a box." Unless you've been in the trenches, how would you know if the keywords they selected are worth attacking? Or will produce desired results for minimal efforts? And even if the foundations the company provides are sound, you're not likely to make much of anything simply by uploading the site and leaving it be. Link building, promotion, additional content, etc. are still required.

I recommend doing it yourself initially to learn the game. Pick niches that you have some interest in, that way if your first site(s) bombs you'll at least had some mild enjoyment during the learning experience. And when you notice a site take off, consider slowly developing that site into an authority site rather than relying on the micro site churn-and-burn method.
