Looking For Forum Ideas...

I'm thinking about building a forum.

What niches do you think are the most profitable?

I don't want to do anything with weight loss, health, gambling, making money, or adult.

    Hi jason,

you might want to check out cbsnooper and cbengine and see which are the most profitable products in clickbank, that gives an idea of the market interests.

i just took a quick look and taking away those you mentioned, they have relationships and personal development.

    Enjoy

I was thinking about going that route.

I'm also thinking about Amazon products because forum members will write about makes, models, etc.

No one can tell you what niche to chose, well they can but it will be better for you to do it yourself. Find a hungry niche with traffic that you know about or are interested in, that way you can be an active member of your community.
I think it's better for your conversions when recommending an affiliate product because the members can see that you are an active person in the niche, and that you are in fact knowledgeable and respected, this will help them to trust your recommendation.

    To Your Success,

    Rich

Create one where people can rant about anything....no holds barred...no restrictions.

There are already forums like that, and they're quite popular. Although I hear side-effects from participating in those forums include depression and increased anxiety/blood pressure.

How about a bee-keeping forum? It's been done before, but bee-keeping is becoming a more popular hobby these days.

I imagine any old hobby, from toy trains to winter camping, would make an excellent topic for a forum.

      Good luck Jason.

        I hear ya...

I was actually thinking about cooking niche. I love the food network.

I already own a guitar forum and I love guitar, so maybe I'll just pick something I'm interested in. Hmmmm

But then again I like to go where the dollars are flowing. That's motivation in itself.

Seems like an offshoot of that would be a good idea.

What kind of music do you like? If it happens to be a fairly popular genre, you could do very well. If it's rock and roll, then I would DEFINITELY become a member, and may even be able to help you moderate.

I could talk about music all day...if I could find enough people to listen.

          Rock on!

How about a cross between cooking and music? You could have a sub-forum for good songs to listen to while cooking. Or like Micheal said, make another music forum.

As for monetization, in my opinion, just about any hobby niche can be monetized. Look in places like amazon, cj.com, or ShareASale for affiliate programs.

In the case of cooking, what I would do is create how-to guides and make them a sticky. Or you could make threads recommending the best cooking supplies, and refer people to sites like Amazon with your affiliate link. You just need a bit of creativity, and monetizing isn't so much of a problem.

There's many things to consider when creating a forum, and picking a niche would one of the last things to think about. Some other things I would consider more of a priority would be; who is going to administor the site? What structure will your site have? What platform will it run on? You will want to have many members with lots of posts before monetizing it.

You can get a forum moderator for as little as $40 a month.

There are so many open source platforms.

      I don't see how that's very complicated...

Breeds of dogs have been good niches for me. I have a forum using a free "mingle forum" plugin...

    People love their dogs

Think about the conversation before you decide. Make sure it's a niche where people can have something to talk about everyday.

    Cooking - people eat everyday
Investing - the market is open everyday
Internet marketing - people are trying to make money everyday

Another thing I noticed is that stay at home moms tend to have more time to be on the Internet and have more to say. A site like CafeMom just kills it by dominating the conversations appealing to that market.

I get a lot of SPAM emails for that "tesla" energy product on clickbank...

Maybe a "green" forum would work.

Survival due to financial collapse. Tough times. Recession income. Urban survival. Grow your own food. Gold & silver...

These all have the same flavor and are very popular right now.

Since you're interested in cooking, how about a cooking forum targeted to men? I did a quick search and couldn't find any special competition in the results.

You could talk about celebrity male chefs, tv shows, cooking for different scenarios like cooking for your mates Jamie Oliver style, cooking for your wife, kids, what to cook for a first date, cooking on a budget etc. Loads of products you could affiliate for I imagine; cooking books for guys like 'learn to cook', recipes, cooking gadgets, aprons. I bet you could create some good digitial content for the market too, like ebooks, videos, or just affiliate with those who already have online content. No idea if this would work as a forum but that's my 2c

Wow that's a great idea! Specifically targeting men in cooking...and building a community I bet it would work done right. You could create an identity/brand for a forum like that - just like we are all Warriors in the Warrior Forum. Gives participants ownership and is immediately recognizable.

        I love this forum

A forum in any main niche is profitable. But a bodybuilding niche would be sick I reckon.
