Yes you also need to export your Wordpress databases.

All posts, pages, plugin configurations and more are stored in the database.
Without the database all you will get is bare bones Wordpress site

Do quick search of Youtube for many instructional videos

    Hi wilson,

there is a better way to do this and that is to ask your new host to do all these for you and also for their advice. They provide excellent service and will see to all these for you while you work on your business.

i don't know what they did but i know they did it for me

    cheers!

Right, like xavierfok suggested, contact your potential new hosting about transferring your account over for you. This is generally done free of charge.

There is alot more to it than just copying the files over. The paths and permissions all need to checked and potentially adjusted, etc. The emails accounts as well.

Don't put them on the "desktop" - it gets messy with the zillion files!

You should use your FTP properly: create a folder on your hard drive, e.g. could be named "wp-backup" and select ALL the files and folders in your WP installation and download them preserving the file/folder structure!

Next, because there is NO CONTENT in the files you will need to backup (export) all your WP MySQL database: posts, Pages, comments and settings are stored there!

Search the forums, it has been posted several times.
Also, for WP related issues you should always start reading the manual:

WP Twin by Jason Fladlien and Wil Matos is a useful utility for backing up, cloning and (re)deploying WP sites.

The way I move wordpress sites is to zip up the entire site structure and export the database. Then on the new site, upload the zip file and extract the files, then create a database and import the database file that you exported.

The only thing to watch out for is if you don't use the same db name, or username, then you will need to edit the wp-config.php file in the home directory of your blog.
