Need advise on pet niche product

I need some input on a offer I was presented to today. I was introduced to a guy who has a pet niche product. Basically the product is for keeping a dog or a cat outside. It has a bowl and a chain that doesn't tangle and it comes equipped with a mini umbrella and a stake to put into the ground. It keeps the animal dry and keeps them cool when the sun is out and also keeps the animal from running all over the place. He can make the product for $6 and he is reselling for $39.99 He offered to give me a cut of the sales if I can bring him customers. He also has a website that's not optimized or anything. He basically has no clue how to market the product.

Can any warriors give me advise on how to make this a lucrative endeavor? I think the product is a good product for dog and cat lovers. I just need to figure out the best way to market. Any input given would be highly appreciated.

One of my first thoughts was to find someone with a big list in the dog and cat niche that I could possibly market to.

Thanks in advance

Can you be more specific about what you are wanting?

Use offline dog groups - dog clubs, vet surgeries, boarding kennels. If they're aware of the product, then word of mouth will help in this niche. When I was competing in dog obedience and agility with my dogs, we'd go to trials and look at what everyone else was using on their dogs. Maybe find a top performer in dog sports and see if they would promote it to their list - thinking the likes of Susan Garrett.

Just some thoughts. I'd love to see it, might be something that I'd buy for my own pooches.

    Hi mansell,

    Offline marketing in your area

you can do a local search for pet stores, pet supplies, pet shop, in your area by searching on Google with the following - "pet store singapore" (I live in singapore) or "pet shop singapore"

    Online marketing worldwide
search for "pet forums" and "pet interest groups" "pet shops" and see if they have a need for your product.
Otherwise you can also search for related product sellers like those selling dog training programs or dog food. They would have a customer base that you can market to immediately. Take note that there is a delivery cost involved here

Put an ad hook on it. As a dog lover, I would not chain a dog BUT as someone who occasionally travels with a dog it sounds like a handy product to have in the car. It would be great for campers, too.

My sentiments exactly. My four dogs live inside with me, and they'd be totally unimpressed if I were to chain them up outside. But, for picnics or trips to the beach, it sounds very handy indeed.

I like the idea of the ad hook. Maybe the OP could contact some dog company eg dog food, flea control, and work out a deal. At the vet surgery where I work, there are often promotional products - buy a 6 pack of flea control and pet owners get a leash or a mug or something, of course branded with the manufacturer's logo. Lots of opportunity there.

Now that you mention it, I've got an offline dog company that may just be interested in looking at that idea a bit more....
