Lance Armstrong - One Savvy Internet Marketer

You may or may not know about cycling legend Lance Armstrong is making his comeback to professional cycling this week in Australia but i'll tell you, the media over here are going crazy over it!

He's comeback is mainly to promote his cancer foundation "livestrong" and the thing that i've been noticing since he's been in town is how involved he is with IM and web 2.0 in particular. The local news paper has been publishing his tweets on what he's been up to and where he's been dining etc and the news is all over his blog too!

Do yourself a favor and check out how he's using web 2.0 to get his message out there. He's either one web savvy guy or he has some great marketing minds behind his cause.

The name, Lance Armstrong, sells. I am reading his 'Its Not about the Bike' (highly recommended) and how much charity his cancer foundation has done. His Nike Livestrong hand-band is a rage here in India (with not many people knowing the significance of the band...heck, it looks cool buddy!)

Sure the name sells. But the dude is also marketing himself like a house on fire. It takes more than just a name, more than just being the best at what you do. I know plenty of people who are the best at what they do, and they're broke, because they have no clue how to market.

Agreed Patricia, my point was, when the name sells, you don't have to do much yourself. Let your backers (Nike, Discovery, US Postal Dept. etc. for Lance) take care of it.

I also read Mark McCormack's (the founder of IMG)-'What they don't teach at Harvard Business School' a few months back, it seems this guy was the pioneer of marketing celebrities to the world.
