What kind of server do you use? Shared, VPS, or Dedicated?

I'm just wondering what type of server you use?
and WHEN did you change to VPS or DEDICATED SERVER?
after how many sites? or after how much traffic or money made?

im looking into a dedicated option since i got lots of sites...but would like to know if you see much of a big difference from shared and dedicated...

one thing i notice is that some camtasia videos on my sites load slower compared to some other big sites out there...so wondering if a dedicated server would solve this problem...

thanks!
BJ

ps...any good dedicated server solutions? is hostgator good?

I switched to a VPS when I couldn't install PHP 5.3 on my shared hosting. A VPS will offer you more features and it worth the price, even if it's more expensive than shared hosting.

Although on some shared hosting accounts you have unlimited traffic, there are some "fair use" restrictions many people are not aware of. For instance, you can't have more than 100 visitors simultaneously.

I use shared, reseller and VPS hosting.

I use shared hosting for numerous small blogs. Also reseller hosting for blogs and some web based tools.
The VPS I have to run a dedicated network system.

As for videos I host all those on Amazon S3. It varies the bandwidth and other requirements as needed in real time and you only pay for downloaded bandwidth. It's actually really cheap and I never have any video issues. Especially important if you have videos sales pages on a launch.

Moving your videos to S3 might even delay your need for a big server.

I don't think you would need to jump from shared to dedicated in any case VPS offers huge performance for a lot less money

I've gone from custom VPS to shared and now to dedicated. Dedicated is worth the price if you are planning on a real business that you intend to grow.

I moved from shared right to dedicated (there were no VPS at the time -- that I know of). I'm currently using ServInt - Managed VPS Hosting - Managed Dedicated Servers - Enterprise Web Hosting | www.servint.net and have no complaints. Support is quick to answer.
