Aweber links in emails - what are they for?

Another dumb question!

I get loads of IM emails - some have long uncloaked links that start with www.aweber..... Why? Why and how is that done rather than linking to the thing yoiu are promoting directly or with a cloaked link?

Is it tracking?

Is this a really stupid question?

Can those links be cloaked as per normnal with a php redirect?

Will I ever understand any of this?

Does launching my first product automatically make me understand better/

    Yes, but then you won't get the tracking benefit. You could use something like AdTrackz instead.

        It will be super easy... you just type in the url as you normally would, click "link tracking" and you are done.
