Anyone using Commission Junction?

Hi Warriors,

I want to know if anyone is using Comission Junction and what their feedback is?

I noticed this forum post here which concerened me a bit about their tracking systems on sales.

Has anyone had any success with this program? I pretty much am at the start of making a niche site with one particular supplier from CJ. If no one has gained success via this platform then i may need to rethink my strategy for monetizing the site.

It's still early days, I've got 100 odd clicks and no conversions so far, i'm not that fussed but reading posts like above concern me a little bit. I could run a test and purchase a inexpensive item and see what happens, but it would come at a cost i guess.

Cheers

I've used CJ.com for some time and have never had an issue ... not that I'd necessarily know except via testing, which I haven't done.

I like CJ.com because of the huge variety of products you can promote. The reporting tools are quite good as well. If you've found a product you want to promote on CJ.com, I recommend going for it.

My advice is to do your home work, and educate your self,
Its time consuming but I've had more success with free directory submissions, and traffic from squidoo.
I'm not sure what Kysaan is talking about. CJ is an affiliate platform and does not charge you anything to promote affiliate offers. Unless you're a big merchant (Zappos, Walmart, Warner Bros) you can't post anything to them.

I've been using them for 5 years with no problems. You get to pick the affiliate programs you want to promote (May actually vet you so you may not get in) so you can taylor your offers to your niches.

I've successfully promoted everything from halloween costumes (big right now) to vacuum cleaners, coffee, heart rate monitors, cheap air travel etc. Many of the 'high street' brands offer affiliate programs here.

I use cj and have had no problems, I have however seen some of the things you are talking about.

I only promote a couple of well know products through them and my conversions are great. I would not really even question getting credit for some of the sales because my conversion is so high.

Strangely enough I've just started selling a CJ product for the first time in several years.

Last time I used them (must be 5 or 6 years ago) was for a product that was useful to my clients. I had an affiliate link on my website which we used to click on whilst I was in my clients house and they would purchase. I rarely received commission - in fact most of the purchases just never showed up on my account. I left them in disgust.

I just rejoined for a specific product. A friend emailed me and specifically asked for my affiliate link to purchase. I copied the link from my website and emailed it back to her. I know she's purchased and she's asked for advice on setting up the product.

Surprise! No sale shows up in my account.

In my personal experience, CJ is worse than Clickbank.

Hmm... could be a problem with the specific vendor you're selling for, or perhaps the integrity of your affiliate link... similar to you, I've had occasion to monitor CJ sales from click to commission, and have never had a problem with my money showing up -- CJ commissions represent a significant portion of my online revenue.

I guess the mileage varies -- definitely worth a try, adammck.

I just joined last week, currently promoting two different products on two different sites. It took about 24 hours to be approved. I had some companies deny the application as soon as it was submitted. But there are still severeal in the same area that will accept you. Give it a try and good luck.

Cj is a good company and I have made money with them. I like that the products are actually physical products, in most cases, from reputable retail stores. I don't use them for the majority of my income, but there are products they have I cannot find elsewhere.

Some advertisers only allow a specific type of traffic and you do have to be careful how you promote the products. Make sure you check the TOS with each advertiser or you could see your commissions get taken away.

Great company as far as I'm concerned. Wonderful, helpful and friendly customer support when I've called them with what was probably silly questions for them.

They have very reputable companies who use them and are HUGE so I'd say to have grown to be this big and to have attracted so many main stream big companies, they must have a lot of good stuff going on.

I love commission junction, and if it were not for their perhaps slightly less intuitive interface, I would say they are the best places at which to start.

Regardless, CJ is one of the premier affiliate networks around, and I've had an excellent experience with them.

I use them to promote a few products I have not had a problem. Some of the biggest fortune 500 companies use Commission junction as there affiliate platform.

They are not my favorite I prefer Clickbank, and Rapbank. But they are one of the biggest out there and they are reliable so I cannot complain.

CJ has been good with me. But I track my traffic very closely, and by the time that they are getting to the vendor, I close about 45% of my clickthroughs into sales.

June, July and August I had a direct deposit promptly the 20th of each month. September I didn't have enough income to meet the minimum, a lot of my traffic went toward other programs in July and partway into August through another program.

I've had good luck myself with linkshare, cj and shareasale.

    • I've been with CJ for more than a decade now. I make money with them every month and they always pay on time.

Having said that I am absolutely sure I am losing sales every month. CJ tracking is nothing special and relies on cookies. I do NOT use the Javascript code only the html.

Browsers, Security Software, Redirects... add your own known cookie killer trap over the years has really resulted in a lot of lost sales for affiliates. CJ doesn't care as long as they get their cut. That would seem a strange irony because if they can't track a sale how do they get paid? I don't. But they seem to be doing fine.

I can recommend Shareasale as a legit company who also pays on time whom I have been with an equally long time.

Affiliate Cookie tracking has some real problems. But if you want to be an affiliate marketer that's just the way it is. And it sucks.

Who knows how many Affiliate Managers are also shaving or dicking with thresholds and timeouts in order to pad their own end.

I recently got hit for a $2.25 cent processing charge from one program on a $50 check. First time this company has ever gouged me this way and again I've been with them for more than a decade. Everyone is doing everything to cheat you out of your earnings. FYI: That program is not part of CJ or Shareasale.

The thread link posted is mostly people complaining about not making any money with CJ, but they also appear to be using the WRONG type of ads... banner display javascript most likely. If you don't use text, if you don't create a presell you won't make any money with CJ.

Thanks everyone for your fantastic feedback.

I'm getting clicks but not sales yet. I saw someone mention there conversion of clicks to sales about 45%. These seems very high, what would be the average do you suggest?

The way i set up my pages is with listings of specific products that i can group. Do most people market their affiliate products as review type formatting? or solutions to problems etc? This bit i'm still yet to lock in a certain way to go about it... If that makes any sense.

    Cheers Warriors!

I love commission junction so far.

They have a wide selection of affiliates, but you need to make sure to select the right ones.

For example I'm affiliated with HostGator and have made over $1,000 this month from them alone. But they are a huge company.

Other small companies might be a little ehk, so I try not to sway towards them.
