Amazon associate question - Use reviews as content?

Does Amazon allow me to use the reviews as content for my sites, etc.? Or do they "own" the wording? (customer reviews)

Also, how about the stiock photos of the items? As an associate, do they allow me to use those images as content for my sites?

Please advise.

Thanks!

I think it would be best to rewrite the review, but I don't know for sure.

The graphics however, are not owned by Amazon, they are owned by the product manufacturer I believe. I think the product manufacturer has provided them for the purposes of promoting the product. So as best as i can tell, they want you to use them to sell their products.

I am not a lawyer, so don't take this as legal advice. This is just an uninformed personal opinion.

Go to the source. Ask Amazon associate help for the answers. That's your best bet.

Somebody here may have more experience, though, and could help you with the correct information. But that's what I'd do!

Rewrite the reviews?!?! That does not make sense -- sorry. Rewriting the reviews means creating fraud -- no?

You can state your re-written review as a paraphrase or a summary, and it's not fraud at all. You're not claiming to have written the review itself, and with in-tact links to the product in question, you're citing (linking to) the source. As far a I'm aware, it doesn't violate anything with regards to fraud and/or plagiarism. Mix in a little bit of your own opinion or content and it can work pretty well.

I suppose -- as long as it is clear what's reviews + what's (your) opinion. But "creating" reviews, as such, is a no no, I assume. That would be fraud, imo. You can't take, say, a movie review, and change the words around + "rewrite" + paraphrase, then say SOMEONE ELSE said those words.

From the Associates Program Participation Requirements:

          28. You will not display or otherwise use any of our customer reviews or star ratings, in part or in whole, on your site unless you have obtained a link to that customer review or star rating through the Product Advertising API and you comply with the requirements set forth in the License Agreement.

Do you mean copy and paste the reviews that have been posted on Amazon.com?

If so, you'd be better off creating your own review about the product, not copying
someone else review. Think about the following: (a) Your site might be penalized by
Google for duplicate content. (b) You will be misleading your potential customer due
to the fact that they are on your review website reading some other persons review.

I guess it would be ok to write a review (opinion?) of the features + benefits. But, if you write stuff saying that you own + use the product -- and you don't -- that seems to be crossing the fraud line.

dfs Dean hit it on the head with his quote from Amazon

You may NOT copy and paste Amazons reviews on your website, however if you pull information onto your site using the API feature you can display those reviews.

What I do is use their reviews as an incentive to click thru to Amazon such as

Before I purchased the XYZ widget I searched online and found that there were over 120 positive reviews on Amazon from customers who had purchased this product and many of them gave this product 5 stars.

It was these reviews that finally convinced me that I should buy this product.

Its well worth your time to take a look if your thinking of purchasing the XYZ widget you can read them here.

I add a few text links in there and that would be it.

People will click through and you have acheived your initial goal of getting them to Amazon.

Now all you have to do is wait for Amazon to work their magic.

And one more bit of advice is if you really have questions about the TOS of Amazon it really makes more sense to shoot a message off to Amazon or use the chat feature and ask them directly.

This way you will get accurate information and know for sure that what you want to do will not be against Amazon's TOS and risk your account being terminated.

    Kickin it on Amazon
