My Credibility Has Taken A Bit Of A Hit & I Don't Care

Hi All,

Ok I can hear you saying it now, what credibility you have only been on this forum for 5 minutes.

Well I don't actually mean my online credibilty because I agree I haven't been around long enough to build this yet. I am actually talking about my offline credibility.

I actually found the time to go for a meal with a group of friends (some of who I work with) and the evening was going great when I was asked where I have been hiding lately. I explained that I was trying to learn how to build an online business and I had a lot of things to learn which was taking up most of my spare time.

Judging by their questions their first thoughts must have been I am trying to build the next facebook or become the next Bill Gates and they were jokingly having me on.

When I actually explained I will be selling information products there was a definate shift in their attitude. Comments such as "Jay, I cannot believe you're actually falling for those scams" and "You are going to lose money" came thick and fast.

Later that evening, my best friend actually took me aside and asked if I really knew what I was getting into.

I am going to cut a long story short here or this could be the longest post ever but the evening ended with me saying this to them.

Look, your my friends and I appreciate your concerns for me but I honestly believe there is a way to build an online business without it being full of scams and people losing money as you say. If you respect me in any way you will let the matter drop and within 6 months I will prove to you that it can be done and I will have quit my job to earn a living online full time.

Talking to my best friend later I said, "what a negative evening but now I have turned it into something positive. If I don't succeed within 6 months and quit my job I will lose a lot more of my credibilty with my friends and that is something that is not going to happen!

Other than my family this has turned into a great motivation for me to be successful

Jay

    Go for it Jay.

99% of people don't understand. They would rather whine about how the rich people have all of the money instead of try to earn it themselves.

Most of my friends are of the employee mindset- and that's perfectly fine. The world needs employees- LOTS of em.

But the world needs leaders and innovators- it has enough people who hate their jobs but do them anyways just for the paycheck.

    Hi Jay,

Prove it to them that it can be done. It is true that there are many negative people around and you might want to mix less with them as they can affect you.

Most importantly, you have must have faith in yourself and the online business that you are going to start. As long you keep going forward and never stop, I am sure you will soon see results too.

    All the best

My parents said this same thing to me, lol but they don't question a single thing that I do anymore They see that I wasn't just "yanking their chain" so to speak.

Don't worry about the 'nay-sayers' and just do what you have to do. If this is something you are serious about pursuing, there will be plenty of time to say "told ya so" in the future once you ARE successful.

When you DO make it big, you can take them all out to dinner and then when those same people who said it couldn't be done go to pull out their wallets to pay for the meal, you can say "I got it"

Then what can they do or say?

They will have no choice but to accept it, and they will probably reanalyze their own goals and situation.

In the mean-time, if it turns into a huge ordeal every time you are around them and you feel they are ultimately bringing you down, then stop associating with them..

If you surround yourself with negativity then your results will be, well.. negative.

    Good for you Jay.

One day they'll probably quietly ask you to show them how you achieved it.

I know where your coming from.

Everyday some smart ass asks me if i've made any sales, with a smirk on his face.

Everyone thinks i'm crazy when I tell them i'll be living in a tropical country by the beach in 6 months.

They are all happy to spend the next 40 years, working 40 hrs a week for someone else.

I WILL have the last laugh.

I love the enthusiasm but please, don't get discouraged if it takes more than 6 months to start doing this full-time.

It took me like 2 years to go full-time with the stuff that I do. But depending on what you are planning, it could be more.. could be less than 6 months.. you never know.

But just know that I won't be providing any sympathy if I see a "I QUIT!" thread 6 months from now.

Making a living online can and DOES happen. But it can definitely take more than 6 months. Just dont give up, keep that "can-do" attitude that you (and fin) have, and you WILL get the last laugh.

Might not be 6 months from now, but it sure as hell won't be 40 years from now like everyone else that said it couldnt be done like fin pointed out.

Nothing worth having comes easily, and everything happens for a reason. I didn't think so, but after what I've been through there really is no other explanation than "it was meant to be"

Honestly - You wouldn't even believe my story even if I tried.

      Hi Friend,

I can assure you that wouldn't happen. I realise that building a business takes time but I am 100% sure I can be full time within 6 months.

My business may not be where I want it to be by then but I certainly don't need a lot to live on.

I think this is the mindset of many people, the employee mindset.
Not that I am quitting my job on Monday but I plan to be in a position to resign when I'm ready.

The best thing you can do is PROVE THEM WRONG! There are scams all around, and yes, plenty of them in Internet Marketing and info products. There are also quite a few people making an incredible living doing it. Let the haters hate and use it as motivation to laugh all the way to the bank!

    1. Remember the Latin term: Illegitimi non Carborundum

    2. Tell them: Recedite, plebes! Gero rem imperialem!

Don't count your chickens before they're hatched. If you've never made money online it's very easy to spend years nickel and diming your way to nowhere. Definitely give it a shot and have a good game plan, but it doesn't always happen in a few months. Sometimes it takes a lot of testing and different techniques until you hit something big.

Good for you Jay, I think everyone will be faced with skepticism at first because everyone is used to having the illusion of a "traditional" job. Not many people can imagine working for themselves and generating an income online through sales or marketing.

Stick with it, and surround yourself with positivity and ignore the negativity at the same time.

    Cheers

It always amazes me how when someone says they'll be selling "information products" to someone else - they almost always call out SCAM

But when you tell someone you're an author (eBook) or an educator who teaches courses - all of a sudden they give you respect (except in NYC since everyone is an author).

    Delivery is half the battle.
