Looking for Affiliates

I have real tangible products that I make. Now I need a world wide sales force. A few questions:

  1. HOW do I find affiliates to begin making sales?
  2. How do I find GOOD performing affiliates from the beginning?
  3. How do I separate my items from the others? Let the affiliates know that they are going to make serious money ($10-16 per sale ), not even counting cash bonuses and competitions??

Many thanks warriors!

Where are you selling your products now? Do you have a website / store?
Will you be managing and hosting your affiliate program yourself or are you using a 3rd party like Commission Junction?

Are you looking for affiliates (you handle entire purchase and shipping transaction) or are you looking to sell the product wholesale?

Because this is a tangible item the playing field is a little different from virtual products.

      Good questions Debbie!

I do have a website and a direct Buy It Now button

I would like to host the affiliate program myself

The website will handle the transaction and I will ship the products.

I have several products, of which some are tangible and some are information, two different products and websites.

PDC? It helps to keep in mind that most people are experts at their field, product, etc. Making an assumption that an acronym is already known is a good way to lose sales.

I appreciate the feedback, more so when I get a link or information as to what PDC is. Thanks James

Try promoting your site for example through SpinSuccess. This way you may get good targeted trafic to your site and may be some affiliates too.
Make some affiliate recruiting site and use it in traffic exange programs like TrafficEra, CrazyClicks nad so on.
Use AdWords and anything you can to promote. If you want affiliates, you just need to do the same dirty job as all others do. Promote, promote and promote. Separate your self by the support, quality and promotion. There are millions of people on the internet so there is enough people to get.

I would recommend creating mail list and sending people a newsletter each time after time. With this you can tell people who ask for your newsletter why is your product the best and let them know regurally.
You just need the people know about you and not to forget you.

Make gorgeous welcome page that will make the visitor want to read everything you have to say. Otherwise you have no chance.

    Hope it helped a little.

If you are going to handle your affiliate program in house then trust is going to be a really big issue.
If I sell your product I'm going to want to see a professional store (for your physical products)
I'll want to know that the customers I send to you are going to be looked after in a professional manner - secure order, prompt delivery, etc

This is something I don't think about when I promote products through 3rd party guys like Commission Junction - they have already done the screening.

For your physical product you might want to think about selling it wholesale or offering drop shipping. You might get more promoters taking the product that way.

For example I work with a guy who makes an item and even though I could send customers to his website to order (affiliate) (its very unprofessional) or he will drop ship for me (he includes a reorder form that goes to him not me) I chose to sell the product direct from my site and I ship it to my customers.
I control quality that way and I retain the customer

These are just a few things to think about.

I like this and would be fine doing this. So how would this differ from the affiliates?

    Clickbank still for exposure!

PDC you can always do in addition, just make a separate payment page for PDC and put it on PDC. PDC needs some more quality products anyway

I believe we are talking about a physical product
Clickbank doesn't handle physical product and I don't think PDC does either

No physical products handled through Clickbank or PayDotCom....shoot

I am also posting ads on CL for affiliates to sell my products and the commissions they make.

    Other suggestions Warriors?

On physical products this is an example of how a payout would be for the different levels

Affiliates - product owner handles all sales transactions, customer service, promotion and shipping - generally paying the affiliate 10% - 30% (depending on the profit margins) Affiliates will create their own promotion campaigns as well but lean a lot on the product owners sales material

Drop Ship - product owner only ships the product. Seller handles the sales transaction, promotion and customer service. Profit for the seller depends on the retail price which is established by the seller - generally 30% - 50%
Product owner will typically charge a wholesale rate for the item plus a drop ship fee.

Wholesale - Product owner sells the product usually in multiple quantities direct to the seller. Seller holds the product in inventory and handles all promotion, sales transactions, shipping, customer service.
Profit to the seller is determined by the retail price minus the wholesale purchase amount. Generally 50% & higher (large ticket items and electronics have a lower profit margin 10%- 30%)
General rule of thumb - stores try to triple their money on items they sell (small items and jewelry, etc)

    Hope that helps

      Good information for everyone Debbie.

I'm familiar with all of them and I'm open to all of them. The fundamental question is how to find good, solid & honest (track record/references), people that fall under each category?

That is the question that I need. I need to find these people that would are comfortable as an affiliate, have been doing business as a Drop Shipper, etc.
Posting for people on CraigsList brings out all sorts of responses, usually not in volume or quality.

Affiliates: Having an in house affiliate program is going to be hard. I've been to your website and it will need to be changed - just my opinion. There has to be a "customer friendly" order system and a "knockem dead" sales page.
You could use Fantasos to handle your affiliates as your site is now. Or if you convert it to a real shopping cart system like Zencart, you would use a system like Idevaffiliate to handle your affiliates.

Drop shipping and wholesale - these are the easiest people to get. Just look for stores that would handle this type of product and contact them.
Once again your website needs to be hot as this is the place where both retail buyers and wholesale buyers will see the product.

    Branding, branding, branding.

There are also trade magazines and trade shows to advertise in.
