Does Prudential plan on whacking its clients if they get too old?

Here's a caption to a video I saw several weeks back:

"Prudential : Let's Meet the Challenge. Making sure people don't outlive their money."

Does anyone else think it makes it sound like Prudential's solution is to kill people who look like they might outlive their money?

That's what I thought at first. I'm sure a few other people did too, even if we are in the minority.

It wouldn't take much of a tweak to change the focus. For example:

"Let's meet the challenge: Making sure your money lasts as long as you do."

That's a little clumsy, but you get the point. Here the unambiguous focus is on making sure the money lasts (rather than a less clear focus on how long the person will live).

Lesson: Sometimes it helps to read your emails, ads, reports or any other written pieces out loud. Or maybe get a few other people to read it out loud before you release it. Some folks may have a different take on it than you.

cheers,
Becky

p.s. Recently, I saw the line was changed to "Making sure people don't outlive their money in retirement" -- that helps a little, but maybe still a little shaky. You can see the caption here.

    Becky,

That's like one of my favorites. One of the national sub chains (Subway? Quizno's?) had an interesting guarantee: If you weren't happy with your sub, they'd give you another, free.

If I didn't like the first one, why would I want another one? Unless my goal is to become fat and miserable...

Clearly that guarantee was aimed at the masochistic segment of the population.

    Becky,

One way to make sure people don't outlive their money is to quit encouraging people to stop smoking cold turkey.

Good point. Although everyone knows that smoking warm turkey is much more healthy. It's almost as healthy as those e-cigarettes.

Sounds like a pretty stiff penalty. I wonder what their policy is if you make a late payment on your life insurance.

        "Dear Policy Holder:

It has come to our attention that your payment has been received 23 days after the due date. In accordance with our new policy concerning late payments, you will not be charged a late fee.

However, we will be selecting 23 days at random during which you will not be insured. And please keep in mind that in the event you are "whacked" during this period of non coverage, no benefits will be paid out to your beneficiaries.

Good Luck and Thank You For Your Business

        Your Friends at Prudential"

    lol. Funny thread
All I know is that I don't want to be insured by a company that makes sure people don't outlive their money.
