Darn, brother. You should create a niche. Write a post-apocalyptic survival guide for people concerned about the day "after" the US defaults on it's MASSIVE debt that is conveniently being swept under the carpet.

Amazon has a vast arsenal of survival books, equipment, gear, gadgets, food storage, etc that's already making survivors a whole lot of money.

You can broaden the scope and include items for living off the grid - which is what many people expect to do AFTER an initial survival phase.

solar powered generators,flashlights, fans, heaters
generator-powered food prep/storage
new small wind turbines
two way radios
cots/roll up foam sleeping mats
basic non-powered garden tools and implements
traps and snares
how-to books

I'd look for products that aim at pursuing normal activities without a wall plug:p

I own a highly modified military monster truck that I built a few years ago. When I was in the building process I spent a lot of time on the steelsoldiers.com forum for technical advice. I was surprised at the amount of people that are into the survivalist gig or as the contributors to the threads often jokingly called it --- “the coming of the zombie apocalypse”. It’s a huge market with a fiercely loyal following.

Survivalists seem to like military surplus items. Including military surplus in a survivalist niche venture might not be a bad idea as well as offering information on how to purchase surplus items from government liquidation auctions. The US government auctions off millions of dollars worth of everything from tents to trucks everyday at rock bottom prices. Just a thought.

Going back to your original post --- you could also sell MREs

  Thanks to all for the links. I've got a good amount of information now to sort through.
  
  I am a big time Off Road Truck/RV enthusiast so I've seen a lot of the Military Vehicles like the Unicats. Very cool, but very expensive.
  
  I'm going to try and focus my efforts on Preparadness where the average person can create their own emergency type supplies. I don't want to price myself out of a niche by going too high end, although perhaps there is a market for that as well.

  Just an idea, but you could also focus on the collapse of the dollar and promote gold along with other commodities.

  This is a market for affiliates that is in flux. Sites like GoldMoney still have affiliate programs although they just had to kill their business with folks from the Netherlands and APMEX has eliminated it's affiliate program altogether.
  
  In other words, don't expect putting in a ton of work/effort/money on an affiliate effort will guarantee you long term results. Those expectations can be rendered useless with one or two rule changes either imposed by the vendors, or by a government as in the case of GoldMoney.

There are a couple of products on c(lickbank) I think. However, do you really want to try to profit by selling a completely irrational fear? Feels wrong to me. If I did that, I would worry Karma would come back and bite me. Just my opinion.

  Another good subset of this niche is the area of self-sufficency skills (check out the series of Firefox books for an example). Learning skills related to food preparation and storage, home building, water retrevial, woodworking, and other types of self-sufficient living skills is incredibly popular. This area focuses more on retrieving and remembering forgotten skills.

Then you have self defense info products, which are fairly prevalent, and other related products, such as pepper spray (check your local laws on this one), and other self defense related items, such as knives, and out-door clothing/gear, binoculars, scopes, night vision, etc. Always big with the self defense/survival crowd.

If you want to sell things directly from your site, and drop ship to the customer, check out Green Supply and Valor Corp. Those are real distributors, used by many actual, off-line gun and sporting goods stores, but they also have a drop ship program. They'll fulfill your orders for you, charge your account, and drop ship the order to the customer for you. Their ordering processes are automated and very simple.

I used to use them when I had a business years ago focusing on the survival and out door market.

You can also concentrate on the gardening aspect. Part of becoming self sufficient is not only storing lots of food for the future, but knowing how to grow your own food. Seed storage is huge and so is learning how to garden. You can even sell some good gardening equipment.

Along with growing food, there's also drying and canning and otherwise preserving it. Huge potential there, as it is almost a lost art now. Tools that don't require electricity is also another area that can be big for survivalists, as well as how to use those tools.
The funny thing about this niche is our forefathers all had the skills and tools and knew all this stuff -- it was common knowledge even 100 or so years ago. Not so now.
