Is "parenting" a profitable niche for someone who's not a professional?

I am putting together an ebook on parenting, targeting the 'new parents'. I have come up with a pretty big list of common questions and problems that a lot of beginner parents encounter.

I plan on putting these questions and concerns into chapters and answering each one in great detail. I want to do the research and writing myself, then hire a copywriter for the sales page.

I don't plan on charging much for it, I basically want to use this as a list builder.

1. So for any marketers out there, is this a solid plan?

2. Is this niche profitable? Is anyone here actually making decent money in it?

3. I was told by someone that my book likely wouldn't sell if I were not a doctor or psychologist, as those are the people with popular books that I would be going up against. Is that true?

4. Also, what else could I add to this product to increase its value? I was thinking maybe a couple PLR reports on parenting, possibly even doing an interview with an established professional or author of a best seller. That alone I'm sure will be a big task.

Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

I looked at my brother's book collection on parenting- and most of it were regular joe's who have great advice on parenting.

He did have a few books on "technical" :-p stuffs such as "pregnancy and what to expect" , nutrition for baby and stuff- but a number of his books are also just normal what new parents should expect in a daily life kind of reads.

One suggestion that I do recommend you include is an upsell item right after your customer joins your program.

Instead of earning lets say $20 commission you can earn $100-$250 per customer.

    Many gurus do this.

Great concept, I hope it is something that does well for you. Looking around I get the sense that there is a lot of people who need parenting skills that's for certain. If you use that as a list builder it can open up a lot of opportunities of course. Families spend a lot of money on so many things, you can sell big ticket items like insurance, investment advice etc.

    Best of luck!

They are absolutely useful. Parenting is a huge niche. In fact it's a huge buyers niche. Parents like to do everything they can to be good parents and educating themselves is just a start. You can also include in your book links to very popular baby items (strollers, walkers, cribs, pacifiers, etc and lead them to an amazon link or babys-r-us affiliate site)

It's an incredibly versatile niche and I'm sure you'll find success there since you're already taking action. Good luck!

"TAKE ACTION" is the first thing everyone tells you and then they leave it at that. I'll add a second part: TRACK EVERYTHING" - It's the only way to ensure your ACTION leads to results.

The parenting niche is indeed a large niche, and can be profitable too. It seems that you have a sound plan, and asking advice from warriors, proves that you have the desire to make money.

Believe in what you are doing, and keep asking good solid questions.

    Good Luck,

    Rob.
