The ULTIMATE strategy to hit your list with...

So I've studied the advice of several 'expert marketers' on how you should market to your list: when to sell to them, how much free content to offer, how often to send messages etc. They almost all seem to be telling me something different, so I've decided all that info will be secondary.

What I'm going to focus on, is the lists I subscribe to, and how the good lists manage to be good.

Obviously, if I'm compelled to unsubscribe, there's a reason, and I'll be making a note each time.

Likewise, if I'm compelled to open every message, the reasons should be noted. If I'm clicking on their links, definitely make a note!

I'll could sort them all by categories: Marketer's I've bought from, one's I've just received freebies from, etc. Keep all this info in a single word file for reference.

One thing that should be noted is that not every marketer follows the strategy they teach. I'm on two lists from marketer I've purchased quality products from, and the method they both teach is more or less along the same lines. Their behavior with their lists couldn't be more different.

Marketer A send me two emails a day, promoting WSOs, usually ones I've already seen from being on the 'WSO of the day list.' No relationship building. Not even any useful info. Just 'check my link' (at least it's not hard selling.) Do you think I feel valued?

Marketer B send an email every other day. So far, I haven't seen a single product link (it's been a bit over a week now.) His messages aren't loaded with a ton of free info, but each one is focused on building a relationship. "Email me, tell me how your doing!" (which I did, and got a thorough reply) "Connect with me on Facebook, find my profile at ..." Same question: Do you think I feel valued?

To me, learning by example seems like it'll be more effective than trying to sort out everyone telling me to "Do it like this."
