Personal Twitter Ad Campaigns - Pay Me to Tweet About You

Hi Warriors!

So I just found out about Magpie, which sounded REALLY cool at first - till I went to the forum and discovered people signed up and get no ads to approve. lol (Thanks for whetting my appetite telling me I could make 3 grand a month!)

So it got me thinking...we sell ad space on our blogs and websites, right?

What would it be like if we had a recurring monthly ad spot on our Tweets? Like Magpie, you could personally approve which ads are shown on your Tweets - never promoting anything you didn't believe it (this would be key for me) as well as setting limits to the number of ads you Tweet (Magpie does stuff like 1 ad per 10 Tweets etc)

Who's stopping you from having advertisers pay you to Tweet? Why use a service at all?

Ethics?
Fear about annoying people?

You could set it up any way you like it - pre-approval is just the start. You could require that they let you craft the Tweet yourself, or use a certain keyword/phrase in it with their link.

Let's brainstorm the possibilities of this moneymaker - good? bad? too ugly?

Tiff

I'll give you $10 if you send out a tweet that I write.

    Tiff,

I looked at Magpie a while ago and came to the
conclusion that it wasn't something I'd like to
    inflict on my followers.

I suppose it depends on your purpose for using
Twitter. I persoanlly don't see Twitter as a source
of cash, rather as a source of traffic to my own
    sites, especially my blogs.

I've used Twitter to make friends, to get feedback
on my products, get answers to my questions and
    many other things.

That was my initial impression but I wanted to SEE it in action. Just got my 1st list of approve/deny campaigns and I denied almost all of them. The advertisers need a "how to write a Tweet" guide lol - they're all spammy.

Of the 2-3 I approved, I went to the site and ensured it was something WORTHY of my Twitter followers first (another how to for the guide). This will be sorely abused IMO - by others.

Those Magpie ads are almost always easy to spot. Often, they're about Magpie itself. But, usually you can tell it's an ad (and ignore it) because it's not written the way that person would normally write a tweet.

I do shoutouts for people now and then, where I just do a "Have you met..." intro with a little bit of info about them (usually taken from their Twitter profile or blog). They usually end up with some new followers afterwards.

I've just done that for free, but it would be nice to find a way to sell that as a service. It has been something I've been thinking of for a while.

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

From what you wrote in your post, I have to say that it sounds like a very interesting idea. I've never actually used Twitter (I'm so far behind!), but it sounds like a great money maker for those interested in it.
