Analytics & Wordpress

Hi all
I always seem to have problems with Google analytics on my wordpress blogs, problem being I can never get the bl**dy thing to work!
I insert the code above the closing </head> tag as instructed but it very rarely picks up the tracking.
Am I doing something basically wrong? I notice there are a few plug ins for analytics and would appreciate feedback on any you have used recently.
Cheers

I don't use WP + Analytics, but I think it can be because the way WP loads the pages. It's not just a single HTML page, but a combination of pages that are put together using PHP's include function...

Maybe if you get a plugin to insert the GA code the issue will be solved.

errrrm - shouldn't it go just before the /body tag?

      absolutely correct

Adding the tracking code (traditional) - Analytics Help

Another option is Statcounter.com. It now uses a plugin for Wordpress and works very well.

I have this issue with some of my wp blogs and for me it takes time for google to find the code. Sometimes up to a week.

You could also check to make sure you dont have a cache plugin causing the problem even though the cache should be automatically cleared every so often.

I think it used to be before the closing body tag but now they changed it to the closing head tag.

It is before the /head now, but it isn't important. I read on their blog about why they made the change. It was just because dial up users might leave the page before the code was loaded. That was if the page was heavy, and mine aren't so I didn't bother to change it.

No, it has been changed now to before the </head> tag.
Does my head in, works on some blogs and not on others.
      Thanks for the input all.

One other thing you could do is view the page source and see if it is showing up. If it shows up I would say its more of a google problem and if it doesnt show up its "probably" related to your template.

Sometime some of the theme frameworks I've used have a spot for your Analytics ID.

My goto plugin though is "Google Analytics" link: hxxp://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/googleanalytics/

It's literally the easiest plugin I've ever seen...just a spot for your analytics ID, that's it

  • It could be the problem with the particular template you're using.
Try a different template and see if you still have the same problem.
