How do I change the main keyword for my website at this stage?

I started a website about 3 months ago. I followed the 30 day challenge for it. It was # 30 or more for exact phrase search and about 200 odd for broad phrase search. Then suddenly it vanished from the broad phrase search and was way more than #30 for the exact phrase search. I wrote an article for ezinearticles and lo and behold the website did well. Now after writing more articles I find that for a broad search it is 1st page no. 5 and the exact phrase it is at no 13 how is this possible? Shouldn't the exact phrase be higher in position than the broad phrase. Mind you I am not complaining. I just want to know how this is possible.

My problem is this. I did everything I was supposed to do following the 30 day challenge. Now I find my keyword does not have very many searches per day therefore traffic is minimal. When I did the research however google gave me good results but in reality it does not seem that way. How can I change my main keyword now at this stage? Any other helpful suggestions are most welcome.
