Do you ever feel like crying?

Perhaps the sales this month havn't been nearly up to par.

Perhaps last year was quite possibly the worst year ever for your business.

Perhaps you've got something to prove, but feel the weight of it and just can't seem to make it right.

Perhaps you've lost faith in yourself and everything around you.

Perhaps theres something you want to do, but havn't found the means to do it.

I've got something to prove, and no means to do it with.

A billion and one ideas run through my head daily, and nothing truly brings fruition.

Been in this deal for over three years now, and what do I have to show for it?

$205.

Period, end of story. A random assortment of skills got me that, but the process is much to lengthy for me to do full time.

I tried affiliate marketing my first two years, never saw a sale.

Sure I've got plenty of information, its cost me well over $3000 I'm sure between everything I've bought in those three years.

Two of those years I was with a girl who went behind my back to over a dozen men during that two year relationship period.

I estimated at least a $15000 loss (between taking her everywhere, buying her everything, food, gas, what ever you can think of, you name it, I most likely paid for it).

That is an $18,000 loss over three years. Working barely above minimum wage with no other income.

So, for my efforts, I'm now only $17,795 in the red (according to myself) that I feel I need to make up for that time lost.

I know its not much compared to the debt I've seen some people pull themselves out of, and its not debt to anyone but me.

There are times I want to cry and destroy my computer and just yell a resounding 'F#$% YOU!!' to everything around me.

Then I realize it would be much more satisfying to make that money back, and show everyone I've become something more than 'that gamer geek'.

I have more things to prove to myself, and others than I care to imagine.

My parents, who believe I'll just become a hobo eventually.

My girlfriends father, who is scrutinizing me through a microscope.

My girlfriends best friends, who are wondering if I'll just become another bum who lives off of her.

Its hard to do that when she's in Texas and I'm in Colorado, but you all understand I'm sure.

I want to prove I'm not that guy, and I want to prove that I can take care of her with my money.

I want to quit all these phone calls where we argue because I am not getting anywhere.

I have the drive, but where's my means?

I'm pretty sure no one can 'give' me the means to make the money I desire. But you all have ideas.

We've all hit this spot where we are going to try and get somewhere, but didn't have the means at the time to do something about it.

A lot of people are becoming more successful now, what is your secret?

What put you over that wall, and made you the money you always wanted?

I'd like to know, and take any advice you, my friends, may have.

Thanks for reading,

Sean Sheehan.

I hate to be a dick or a Debbie Downer, but NO you don't have the drive.

The day that you truly realize that is when you can maybe break the cycle. But spending 3 years and having nothing to account for it isn't drive pal. That's a complete lack of it.

    You have desire, not drive.

    There is a HUGE difference.

Again, I'm not trying to be an ass or put you down. But I'm a total realist, and I've realized that people who don't get this business after a year, almost never do.

    Key word is... almost.

You need a serious change in focus, desire, and work ethic. Because the truth is, I know some brain dead half retarded dudes that are making a very respectable income on the internet and I'm positive you are probably 5 times smarter then they are.

I'd give yourself a real deadline.

Make a grand in the next 2 months or give up and focus on a job that you can truly grow with. Internet marketing isn't for everybody, nor should it be.

    Best of luck pal.

Hope the verbal kick in ass propels you to do something great.

Also, you may want to make sure your website in your signature actually works.

I genuinely clicked it with hope of maybe even buying something from your site. It looked interesting to me.

And oh yeah, I've cried, about 5 hours ago when the Cardinals beat the Eagles.

Funny thing cuz I don't even really care about either of those teams. I just like to root for the underdog and love to take part in celebrations.

Thanks for reminding me of that as well.

I need to redo my signature because I took down the site (it was poorly made, and just had prices).

If you are genuinely interested, I can provide samples and such, just pm me.

        Hey Sean ...

Maybe I'm reading something wrong, but I don't see anything "spiteful" in what Jason had to say as a response to your post. I think he has given you a truthful, honest and very pointed answer to your question ... and ... some FANTASTIC advice.

If you knew Jason's story (which he can elaborate on) ... you would read his message over and over and over again. Trust me.

        Look ...

When I started my internet business a DECADE PLUS ago (my GOD has it been that long ago ). I was broke ... both mentally and financially. The internet was a DISTRACTION for me at the time until I stumbled into ways to earn money with it (Including bumping into some guy named Allen Says )

        It was not easy ...
        It was not fun ...
I failed almost every day ...
        I failed for almost 4 years ...
I thought it was something about ME that caused my failure ...

And you know what ... IT WAS! I realized that I was being more REACTIVE than PROACTIVE. It was after I got my ass kicked verbally by some colleagues at the time (some of them who are "legends" on this board) that I REALIZED that it was ME that had to change.

        I read things like ....

        Think and Grow Rich
Success Through a Positive Mental Attitude
The Greatest Salesman in the World
        Lead The Field (audio program)
        Psychology of Winning

This list could go ON and ON and ON ... but I realized I needed to see my world and my work in a whole new light, and take a different approach to my business. I too had the desire but not the DRIVE. I needed to hone my focus and take the counsel of wise folks and be willing to CHANGE MYSELF before my WORLD CHANGED.

Within two years ... I generated HUNDREDS of thousands of dollars in sales and earned an income that I only used to dream of ... and my life has never been the same (in a good way).

I FIRMLY believe that SUCCESS is FORGED in the fires of adversity. Oh ... did I say that when I was at my lowest I was out of work, facing foreclosure, on welfare and had literally 20 bucks to my name? Did I want to cry ... you bet ... and I did often. BUT ... I didn't let that hold me back from my dreams. I learned and I worked hard and FAILED OFTEN with ENTHUSIASM!

Sean ... I think your message could be a GREAT CATHARSIS for you. To get these toxic feelings out of your system. You've now thrown them out to the universe like some "primal scream" therapy. Now ... take the helpful (and yes sometimes "brutally honest") advice of folks like Jason and others. LEARN from this and move forward. If you're willing to take the responsibility for changing your mind, your life and your wallet will follow.

Finally ... SUCCESS REQUIRES MAINTENANCE TOO! Just because you hit a new level of success doesn't mean you can stop learning and growing. I tried and that had some HUGE screw ups recently. So ... like it or not ... success in this business (or any business) is a business of constant improvement and learning.

Hope this helps and keep reading the boards here ... this forum has helped TONS of people achieve some GREAT THINGS!

Your buddy in the business ....

I was talking about my spite towards his response, friend, haha! But thank you for the post. It was my intention to 'scream out' with this and get the brutally honest people's opinion.

I totally agree with what you're all saying, If your just not in the frame mentally then you need to change something to get in the frame.

As Pat Mesiti says often "you won't get a million dollar business with a $5 mindset" and that is so true especially in this recession.

so just listen to what everyone is saying and change and you will suceed

      Hi BuildingFutures,

Some really good advice from Jmo there - nice work fella.

A lot of people are becoming more successful now, what is your secret?

What put you over that wall, and made you the money you always wanted?
Take a look at what you posted from the point of view of a stranger and aks yourself what they would think of you. Imagine you are someone else and ask yourself what you think of 'that guy'. If it doesn't make you feel like sh*t, keep reading it until it does. (That's the answer to your question above - if you do this properly, it will stick in your mind and you can refer back to that 'feeling' whenever you need - and as long as you have moved forward, what you will focus on is how much better you feel than when you hit rock bottom. Sounds too simple? It bloody works mate).

Then, understand that to achieve anything worthwhile, you might have to go through some 'pain' - that's life - no free rides. Also bear in mind that the harder it is, the more you receive if you see it through.

Then realise that the one person worse off than you is the one who never 'receives' any challenges. The one who is going nowhere.

Then be a man and do what you've gotta do so that when you read your own posts in the future, through the eyes of a stranger, you glow with pride instead of feeling like sh*t.

No-ones perfect. Show me someone who says they have never made bad financial decisions and never made bad romantic decisions and I'll show you a liar. The best way to fail is to let lack of 'instant' rewards put you off. Dust yourself off, wipe away the self pity tears and go and grasp life by the throat and make it work for you.

        Sean,

There's no crying in internet marketing.

And while you're changing your tagline to something that expresses power, you should also change your avatar, as well. This would be the perfect time to drop the "I'm an idiot" persona and get serious.

You can only post an OP like that once. You've just shot your wad, so make it count. You've been given some good advice, don't waste it.

        KJ

Edit: Sean, good to see you've changed your avatar.

Internet Marketing is not for everyone, 3 years with no sales is bad to say the least. It sounds as though you're trying but failing (maybe because IM is not for everyone?).......
For instance my offline business is tilling and I'm very very good at it to say the least. But tiling is not for everyone either. IM for me is something I do afer work and on weekends, I love it! Never know maybe one day I'll love it more then tilling, then maybe I'll go full time!

I really hope it works out for you though, I really do!
Look at it this way, at least you 3 years closer to your first sale then you were at the start!

Best wishes and best of luck

Have I ever felt like crying? Sure and I did!!! After that minute I took massive action. I have a way to go to reach the massive goals I've set for myself but I've started making real progress! What got me over the wall was DETERMINATION. Sheer and utter, grunt, guts and drive! If you want it bad enough you will achieve it.

Oh you asked what are the secrets? There are none! That's the secret! If there were a secret it would be that you actually have to do a heap of hard work and have the determination to smash your way through all the brick walls!

Do it for yourself Sean...not to prove something to everybody else! By the time you achieve your goals and get your confidence some of those people you want to prove stuff to won't even be in your radar, they certainly don't sound like they're worth hanging with....but then I can be ruthless...maybe you need a bit of that?

Like your new avatar, you're already fired up! Dig in, fight your way past all the negativity of the last three years and come out the other side ready to do whatever it takes to move forward and you'll succeed.

Oh yeah I can cry like a baby. But over IM? No. I have more heart wrenching catastrophies than not doing affiliate marketing right :p

Some good options I can think of:

    a) get a good mentor to teach you a lot of things
    b) IM really isn't for everyone, look for another career path
    c) try to find out why it hasn't worked for you, what you haven't done that you should do, what you do that you shouldn't, etc, and try to fix the problem. are you in the wrong program, promoting something that doesn't sell, not getting enough traffic, etc?

            Hey Sean,

First things first, I'm happy for you that you took the time to create this thread as a method to get some advice that may kick you into gear.

I think that speaks highly about the fact that you truly do want to do whatever it takes to make a solid living from IM!

Secondly, can I give you a suggestion I've picked up on from reading the replies so far.

These three really speak to what I suggest doing.

Why don't you use this forum to offer your services as a copywriter to whoever needs one?!

As an example of your work you can use your original post in this thread and make sure that you include the three replies I've highlighted here from Paul and Jason when giving this as an example!

Not only is your original post written very well; (just imagine if you'd put some of that on a sales page for an IM newbie guide); but the replies quoted above add proof that you do have the skills of a great copywriter!

Worth a shot at least isn't it?

            Take care buddy.

this is a horrible story which makes me feel bad.

The first thing is that you HAVE to get your relationship problems solved.

No self-pity please, look at the solutions and NOT the problems.

Then look at your marketing, and you can probably scrap EVERYTHING you made in the last three years since it only got you in the red - so proof right there that this is not working.

Look into options like JV with big marketers, they know what they are doing.
STOP spending money...do whatever you want but do things which dont require MONEY - you want to make money and not fricking lose it.

Maybe its harder to do things without being able to invest/spend....but do not invest/spend without having SOME income, no PPC, no outsourcing. If this means hard and long work, so be it.

I have the same problem with 5 zillion "ideas" and some of them don't work...maybe just sit down and make a PLAN and think about the plan and ask other people about their opinion, and dont get distracted by 500 things in your head.

Wish i could give better advice. Also..success can sometimes take VERY long to finally manifest. I remember when i started out it was really only PENNIES from adsense, i didnt make any sales on clickbank...it was horrible. I thought the whole thing is a joke.

And at 16 I was too busy chasing girls to worry about making tons of money. LOL

Way to go. I fully expect to see great things out of you.

Because of school and sports, I can only work for maybe 2-4 hours a day...(much longer hours on the weekend) BUT when I work... I WORK. I don't go around reading forums...looking for a new "secret" to learn, reading emails, playing computer games, watching youtube or any of that BS. That is NOT work. I value my time and work on the single thing that's going to directly effect how much money I make that month, the next month, and so on. ...

In my opinion, This is a mindset you either have or you don't.

If you even have to THINK about whether you have that mindset... then you probably don't.
Danc1122 -- are you really 16? You are wise beyond your years. Great post with excellent advice. Staying focused and working hard are two major keys to achieving success online.

      Sean...

It's important to have a plan you can follow, with a definite end goal that is achievable. Without a plan, your efforts will be scattered and ineffective. You also have to be patient yet determined and persistent. Things take time. If you give up too soon and move on to something else, you will repeat the same mistakes and get the same results.

Scrutinize your work over the past 3 years to see how much is real WORK and how much is not. What is your actual hourly work week? Where have you focused your energies? How much of it was on activities that actually steer you towards making money?

Do you spend more time trying to perfect your site or product, or on actually marketing your product/offer? Many IMers don't realize that this work is around 80% marketing and 20% other (product creation, site building, administration, etc.). As a creative, you might spend more time on the design-related tasks.

Track your time for a few weeks and see exactly how much of it you spend really working. Time can be deceptive. You can sit at your computer, going over different things and doing some dedicated work, only to discover that out of your 10-hour day, you only worked for 4 of them. (I'm quite aware of this deception... After years of failing and when my situation reached critical, I finally checked my work ethic and was shocked when this truth was revealed.)

you can also waste a lot of WORK and TIME on things which wont "work" ultimately.

That's why you need coaching, a proven plan, something WELL planned and thought out before it even goes on sale...or something where you already have proof that it works, and then continue this path and expand on it.

I can't find the post from a few days ago but it was right on. The gist was to get fired up about what you are doing to the point that you simply cannot do anything else. Passion takes over and suddenly you're released from fear and inaction. I wish I could remember the word he used so I could find it in a search. by the way...get away from "the money i desire" <--

of course it's "the money" we all desire...but focus on a successful product first and the desire to "do it right"....the money comes as a "by-product".

The money should not be your passion, it should be the product, passion doing what you're doing and NOT "just doing it because it could make money" <--

Stop crying, roll up your sleeves and start working. As Jason points out, desire without drive is useless.

Life is all about choices and you've decided to become an internet marketer. Now, you'll have to follow through on the promises you made to yourself.

      Forget about your girlfriend
      Forget about your girlfriend's father

You can only keep others happy when you are happy. Make sure you achieve that first.

Before that ask yourself if you can stay positive even with all the negative happenings in your career. You are responsible for your life. You have the choice to worry and complain or the choice to turn things around - make things work for you.

So what if you've failed. Just go back and see where you went wrong. Worrying only clouds your thinking and hinders your progress.

I've been in your shoes not too long ago and completely understand how you feel. I've cried my heart out because I had huge debts and nothing was happening. But the day I decided to take charge of my life and DECIDED TO MAKE IT - I stopped struggling.

As others pointed out, you do write very well....that's one option you could look at to earn some quick cash, which will give you the confidence required to pursue your marketing.

Just change your attitude and regain your confidence. You'll see how things work out for you.

      All the very best!

There is no irony in that at all...If you had any business sense...You would understand it.

I'm creating value by offering a low cost autoblog for Warriors..and then teaching them how to operate them. Over Delivering.

These AutoBlogs are pretty much authority sites with high quality info for that niche all handily available at once place. Basically, like a hands off "Drudge Report"

Therefore...the customer I have makes money through several different outlets...and the users who are interested in that particular niche come back to read each day because the blog is constantly updated with fresh content from good sources that way they don't need to go to 20 different sites to get the info.

I will agree that AutoBlogs aren't the MOST super high value thing you can do.

Ultimately the best way to get sustainable wealth is to create a great product...Give away an even better product for opt-in's and then continue to build your expertise and brand throughout the years. I think...Almost anyone can do this...but no one does because they are scared, lazy, and looking for quick fixes.

Spending $18 000 on your girlfriend was a bad move.

Hopefully you learn something from that.

I don't agree with some of Jason's comments (that if you don't get it in the first year, you probably won't), because it's taken me quite some time (years) to even figure out this stuff enough to turn a profit.

Maybe that's because I'm young, but I don't think that really has much to do with it.

I'm not the marketer Jason is and probably never will be. But I DO know that there are people who work their asses off and never get anywhere, and not just in this field.

You need the right mindset, and that can take a fair bit of trial-and-error before you figure it all out. I have finally figured out that kind of mindset when it comes to music, thanks to some amazing people. Still figuring it out when it comes to marketing though.

But I'm trying, and I'm working at it. I'm seeing real, measurable improvements every week, if not every day.

But if I may add my two cents...

Crying and bitching doesn't solve anything.

You need to sprinkle some concrete on your cornflakes and harden up, and work your ass off at this stuff. I guarantee it will take you more work than you thought it would. That is certainly my experience.

You've obviously got some personal issues you've got to work through. Who doesn't?

But at the end of the day you've got a choice - work harder, figure out what it is you're doing wrong, or give up.

Make the choice, and take action to bring it to fruitiion.

    -Dan

P.S. if your girlfriend cheats on you, that's YOUR fault. Maybe you didn't give her what she needed, or maybe you just made a bad choice in choosing her as a mate. God knows I've done the same thing before. But it was MY mistake and I accept that... And I don't get that vibe from you.

She may be a bitch or whatever but it's still YOUR FAULT and YOU need to accept responsibility.

    Seeing a pattern here?

A little over 6 years ago, I was in the same boat as you.

I had lost my job on December 31, 1999.

From 2000 to December 31, 2002, I tried everything I could to either find
another job or do something to make money.

At one point in time, things were so low for me that I took a job from 3PM
to 12 midnight where what I did for 9 hours was post these little labels on
these law briefs that had to go to court. I don't remember how long I did
this for, All I know is I was making $7 an hour and I was miserable.

Mind you, I am a college graduate with several degrees.

I tried a sales job offline. I made all of $600 in a year.

I worked another sales job where I sold fire extinguishers.

        I made about $250.

I worked online doing web design with a partner. I thought that would
        finally be my salvation.

None of our clients would pay us because they were never satisfied with
our work. After about a year, my partner moved to TN.

I finally, in January of 2003, decided I was going to try to make money
online doing something...anything. I had no clue what I was doing and it
showed big time. I made $28 in 5 months posting ads for some stupid
        Paid To Type Company.

Trust me, there wasn't anybody more stupid when it came to earning an
        income online but me.

Many times I wanted to just throw in the towel. I was convinced that I
just wasn't meant to be successful.

        But I didn't give up.

I sought out people who had knowledge. I begged for help. I found a
retired school teacher from Indiana who gave me some tips. And then
I met another successful marketer named Juan Walker who gave me
        some more tips.

I started putting the pieces together. I did some affiliate marketing, taking
what I learned and also did some freelancing with my writing.

Finally, I was making about $1,500 to $2,000 a month.

I was on cloud 9. I was making poverty level wages but I was still on
cloud 9 because I was making something.

I kept learning. I kept working. I worked 14 hour days 7 days a week.

I finally released my first product.

That year I made over $40,000.

Long story short, today, I am a 6 figure a year earner. I have a major
release coming out this year as well as a membership site coming out
        with a fellow warrior.

I never have to worry about money again.

These last 6 years have been the most grueling of my life, but the one
thing I never did was say, "Poor me, it's not fair." I wasn't going to let
anything get me down. My mindset was that I was determined to succeed
once I put my mind to it.

        And that is the key.

You have to totally change your mindset. You have to believe in yourself
        and refuse to accept failure.

Then, you have to put together a real business plan...one built around
        sound judgment.

If you don't know how to do that, get yourself a mentor to help you,
somebody with a proven track record.

I cried plenty, but those days are over.

Ultimately, it's your life. Don't expect anybody to do this for you because
they have their own problems. You can lay down and accept defeat or
you can get up off your ass and do what needs to be done to be
        successful.

        It's YOUR choice.

Steven, great post. Drop me a line when your new product comes out...

Sounds like 3 years and no success means you had no plan. A business plan doesn't have to be complicated and filled with jargon nobody can understand. Choose a marketing model (don't go buying more products, there's tons of free stuff in WF alone!), choose a niche, create a plan WITH goals and tasks.

Identify the time you have each day to devote to your plan, estimate when you can complete the tasks you set out, follow it through to completion.

Don't get involved in a bunch of niches or models - focus on ONE thing for now and pummel it to death.

I think it's critical to devise a plan... it's too easy to waste day after day thinking that you're being productive when you are not. Maybe you can reflect back on these past years and actually write out actions that you've taken and analyze what went wrong. But I'm betting that you didn't have a plan, didn't follow through on any solid type of goal setting etc.

Good luck and I hope you continue to get useful feedback here.

I've got to agree with the NO PLAN take on it.

If you make a plan that is ONLY the first step, you then MUST have the guts to stick to that plan. IF it is a proven plan that an idiot and his wife have used to make money online, you must find the guts to stick to that plan even if you hit a hump in the road.

Bailing because of a hump in the road means you will not go forward.

There are tons of plans across this great forum where we all come together, you only have to ask yourself if you can clear your head for a substantial amount of time, stick to the plan and make it work.

For me, there's simply no other way, I have to stick to my plan even though I've had several huge humps in the road since the new year. All sent to test me and keep me honest.

        It really isn't rocket science!

        Good luck

      Solution:

Close down your email client and open it at lunch time, and just before you finish for the day.

Also, do the same with any Instant Messenger software, forums and social networks you belong to.

Otherwise you'll think you're busy doing lots of work, while actually doing lots and lots of bugger all.

      Kindest regards,
      Karl.

      P.S. Steve, of course I don't mind.

I always say, "If you're not finishing the day tired, pissed off, aching and with the sun already down, then you're not working hard enough".

Sure, you can slack when you've earned the right.

But my question to you, as others may have asked, is this:

How many days have you finished up tired, pissed off, aching and with the sun already down?

If you've spent more than two years consistently so, with the results you mentioned, then you're doing something seriously wrong.

I mean, seriously wrong...like using some other guy's affiliate links, or forgetting to actually publish your site via ftp...

Not too sure about that one Nick. It seems like the antithesis of what being a real entrepreneur is. Generally we have employees or contractors to go home feeling like this...while we enjoy the fruits of their labour...

There are no failures - only results.

You know what, I think we all have those moments. I think the difference is what we do AFTER having those moments. Some of us wake up and say F*** This and slam into forward as hard and fast as we can. We take the bull by the horns and say not me, and move forward. Others throw in the towel or drag themselves on not really doing anything and wondering why things haven't changed for them.

As for the $200 or so in 3 years...get your ass in gear. My baby girl whose 10 has made more online in the last WEEK. Know the difference? She had an end goal in mind, she decided what she wanted and asked for help and advice on how to get there and TOOK ACTION. She's still not at her goal but she hasn't thrown in the towel or given up, shes asking what else can I do to get there.

Difference here? She's 10...so you don't have your momma leading you by the hand, you should be man enough not to need it. Kick your own ass into gear, ditch the $20K girl and get your life started. Stop crying, and just take action. Or keep up the whining and get a real J.O.B till you're man enough to do this business.

You can do it, but will you?

lots of good posts happening in here. I hope you are reading them all.

Life sucks. Unless people have been spoon fed their whole life and the worst that has happened to them is their Hummer got a flat tire...then everyone has experienced shit in their lives. I work a full time job from 8-6, spend 3 hours with my family after work, then hop on the internet from 9pm - 3am working on freelance, on ideas for IM, etc... I have been paying medical bills for both my kids for 3 years who both have had medical surgeries before they even reached the age of 1. Life sucks bro...and when life kicks you where the sun down shine...grit your teeth and keep fighting.

It's a lot of work...but as the sole income provider for a wife and 2 children...I HAVE to bust my ass to make sure they are taken care of.

Who gives a shit if your GF makes more money then you. If she is pushing that in your face...no offense but she is a bitch. Does she enjoy trying to make you feel less of a man or something? It's time to jump on the gas pedal and floor it.

I don't have the IM experience here to help..but maybe someone here can literally take you step by step of a money making process that does work...and maybe teaches you a few things that your existing projects have been missing.

Good luck bro...I hope you find the answers you are looking for.

The John Reese Crap Method might help...

    "Crap can make you rich."

    Don't laugh. Let me explain.

The beautiful thing about marketing online is that we can achieve RESULTS for anything LIGHTNING FAST. We can put up some Google AdWords, drive some traffic, and starting getting results in a matter of MINUTES... I can essentially write a sales letter, include an opt-in form, and create a little info-product to sell, all in less than ONE HOUR and have it getting results.

Okay, so the product may completely STINK -- it's CRAP. The sales letter may be nothing but CRAP too. And even if someone DOES order, they'll be getting that product which is CRAP and most likely will request a refund. Heck, after all, I only spent an hour on the entire thing.

But none of that matters. The GOLD is not in the crap itself, the gold is in the RESULTS. Everything in marketing has a "Cause and Effect" -- everything.

If you put up the WORST CRAP EVER right now on a web site, something WILL happen. And those results are what eventually drives a few hundred dollars a month in profit, and eventually produces several thousand dollars a month, and can eventually create a small fortune.

Okay, so maybe your conversion rate will initially be 1 out of 1,000. That's okay. With enough data that 1 out of 1,000 will become a solid average and that site will CONSISTENTLY produce 1 sale out of 1,000.

The point is this. There is tremendous value in a 1 out of 1,000 visitor conversion rate -- no matter what the price of the product is. No matter what the offer is. Why? Because it's GUARANTEED that you can IMPROVE upon it. You can make it better. You CAN get MORE people to buy.

All you have to do is improve your marketing. Test small changes. Try a few little tweaks. Improve it little by little. Get better and better RESULTS.

Here is something I want you to engrave deep into your brain...

You will NEVER, that's right, NEVER, launch a site that will be even 20% of "perfect".

You're never going to launch a site that starts pulling a 20% conversion ratio, let alone 100%.

So why are you spending SO MUCH TIME to get that latest project launched? What the heck are you waiting for?

Know this... everyday that goes by without you launching your latest project is a day that you could be using to test and IMPROVE upon what that project produces. Yes, that means make you more money.

Your project will never be perfect. You could have always made it better. You could have always done this or done that. WRITE THIS DOWN...

"The biggest piece of crap ever created and launched online makes more money than an almost-perfect project that was never launched."

The biggest mistake we entrepreneurs make is trying to make our little projects PERFECT before we are willing to launch them and see what they will do. This can be the "kiss of death" for our businesses. Because until we launch projects we don't get any RESULTS.

What you need to realize is that RESULTS are the biggest ASSET to your online business.

    Even the CRAPPY RESULTS.

Because the results are what tells us what is working and what isn't. And believe me, I've probably made MORE MONEY from the results I discovered about things that weren't working, so don't just think it's all about what works.

So learn to produce projects on an ACCELERATED launch schedule. Just get the sucker to the quickest version that will allow you to launch it and start getting ANY results at all. Then spend your time IMPROVING on the results.

Let's face it. Many of our projects FLOP. It just happens. People just won't buy enough of something to make it profitable. So we must move on and work on another project. Get it out there and see if that one starts making money. Repeating the process again and again.

But think about what I just said and realize something. If you KNOW the reality that many of your projects will fail, why the heck are you taking so long to find out?

It's probably the same reason "I've" often delayed things... FEAR.

I'm AFRAID to see my "baby", my special project, fail. But since we've already come to realize that the reality of business is that some projects WILL FAIL, we just need to GET OVER IT.

Put that CRAP together and launch it! Unpolished. Unperfected. Ugly. Yes, I say let the crap fly!

So get your projects launched absolutely, without a doubt, as quickly as possible. Get SOME results. Any results. THEN work on improving whatever those results are to increase your profits.

If you are planning on doing JVs with people for your new product, or rolling out an affiliate program for it, the "JOHN REESE CRAP METHOD" (as I will call it) still definitely works.

    Here's how you use it...

You put together your web site and product as quickly as possible. Start tracking the results -- no matter what they are. Make changes and TEST them. Continuously work to improve the results of the site.

When you're able to get the site to a satisfactory conversion level, then and only then proceed with putting together JV deals and really rolling out the product.

You know, the biggest kiss of death for an online marketer can be to launch a product with JV partners WITHOUT having first tested and improved a site's conversion. Do you think your JV partners are going to promote your next project if the initial one completely FLOPS and doesn't make them any money? Absolutely not.

SO USE THE "JOHN REESE CRAP METHOD" AND PROFIT!

    1. Create and launch crap. 2. Test that crap. 3. Improve that crap. 4. Make money with crap that eventually becomes non-crap. 5. JV the non-crap to make a LOT more than you ever dreamed.

Seriously. Don't laugh. This process works. Again and again. It has made many, many people rich.

Learn it. Live it. Love it. Let crap make YOU rich.

      Chuck ...

      YOU ... ARE ... SO ... RIGHT !!!!!

THANK YOU for your post, there is so much truth in your comments, and being an old Electrical Engineer / Rocket Scientist (Yes I was ) ... I have been SO guilty of trying to make the perfect product, but almost went "broke" in the process.

I will try to keep this short but ... it speaks VOLUMES to what you said.

For years I have made money selling affiliate product, resell rights products (hard copy and electronic), made money with internet based network marketing, arbitrage, adsense ... you name it.

BUT ... I remember a day in Las Vegas over 8 YEARS AGO when a well known internet marketer colleague of mine said these words:

"When are YOU gonna get YOUR product created and put on the market?"

I told him soon. I even bought a membership to his 'product creation' system to help me get started. (Like I said ... 8+ YEARS AGO)

Oh ... I started it. MANY TIMES, but ABANDONED IT (many times) because it just was NOT "perfect". Again ... the curse of the "engineer".

By the time I restarted it, technology and concepts changed and I had to start all over AGAIN! And when I did ... I never finished it because it was NOT perfect.

THEN ... a personal situation where I REALLY got "pissed off" at a former business associate caused me to take a hard look at what I was doing.

      So I did this.

For a few days I outlined some ideas for a product ...
For a few more days I did some research ...
For a few MORE days I put the concepts together ...
I took a day or two to write down the thoughts and edited it ...
I even did some audio recordings of phone calls I did ...

And actually within three weeks created a product and a sales page for that product (not in my name mind you ... in a niche).

AND YOU KNOW WHAT? It was kinda CRAPPY, but when I took it to market it SOLD! And DAMN IT ... I made MONEY WITH IT! It was FAR from perfect, and the ONLY reason I did the product was to "piss someone else off".

AND IT TAUGHT ME A LESSON ... do the best you can and get your stuff out there and you CAN REALLY HIT SUCCESS!

      KUDOS !!!!!

Wow, thanks everyone for their great posts.

But I must, MUST, clear the air here.

I obviously did not think about the wording in my post when I said I have arguments with my girlfriend.

I LOVE HER! Understand that before you go any further in this post.

She is scared, she is deeply in love with me, as I am with her. She's scared we won't ever be together. And thats a very sobering thought, especially when we live several states away from each other at the moment.

As for her father, and her friends and family, they all want to see us together, they all want to see me succeed. I (probably needlessly) put more pressure on myself than I should when it comes to them. I want to impress them, not they want me to impress them.

For those of you calling her a bitch, there was no need for that. She is my woman, and I'll be damned if I let your comments make her anything less than the love of my life.

        Daniel Scott says:
She may be a bitch or whatever but it's still YOUR FAULT and YOU need to accept responsibility.
I'll accept all the responsibility in the world, but she is not, nor ever will be a bitch. Understand that this very second.

        And as for absbica saying:

Who gives a shit if your GF makes more money then you. If she is pushing that in your face...no offense but she is a bitch. Does she enjoy trying to make you feel less of a man or something?
No offense my ass. You offended me more than anyone else. Would you want me bashing your wife calling her a bitch? I think not.

No, she makes me feel amazing. But when she calls me crying because people are still being F@#$heads to her in the town where she lives, and how shes scared of not being with me, it brings me down and makes me wonder how the hell I'm going to get this to work.

And right now, if it wasn't for her pushing money into my HAND, MY HAND, I would not even be on this forum, have made any sales for my 3-D, anything.

She's been my financial backing for a little while, because she believes in what I do and how I work. She listens to me work, hours on end. We talk and stuff about failure and what it could mean, only because she's scared of it and needs support and that reinforcement of mind.

She even wants to know how to do this herself!! But she'd like to see me do it first, to make sure it can be done. She wants to see it work for me.

Granted, works not really good without some kind of plan. I didn't know how to make one or even where to start. But, I've a mentor who is going to teach me what I need to do to make myself a success. I want to thank him for contacting me and offering help I'd have been desperately trying to find elsewhere.

Which brings me around to something else. Everyone talks about taking action, but theres also taking action that doesn't get you anywhere.

Theres taking action, then theres taking the RIGHT action.

I've obviously not been taking the right action for a few years.

        That all changes.

I'd ask for an apology from the members blatantly calling her a bitch, but I find that highly unlikely to happen. Regardless, it would be nice to have those.

Other than that, I'm taking action. I have a mentor teaching me how to make a solid businessplan, a few products I'm going to line up, and services as well.

To all of you for your time in posting, thank you, even if your words pissed me the hell off.

        Have a nice day.

          Hi BuildingFutures,

This looks like a really happy ending to me.

if you look at your original post, and compare it with this one (post#69 above), you appear to have gone from a defeatist attitude to a fighter's attitude.

To all of you for your time in posting, thank you, even if your words pissed me the hell off.
To be honest, that was exactly what I had in mind when I wrote my post, because the only way I could see for you to make a fast turnaround was to get so pissed off that you could scream - because whether you actually scream or not, the next stage after that is the natural human ability to turn all of that anger into forward motion, with (hopefully) unstoppable, long lasting momentum.

          I just followed Jmo's lead when I said - (post #15)

Take a look at what you posted from the point of view of a stranger and aks yourself what they would think of you. Imagine you are someone else and ask yourself what you think of 'that guy'. If it doesn't make you feel like sh*t, keep reading it until it does. (That's the answer to your question above - if you do this properly, it will stick in your mind and you can refer back to that 'feeling' whenever you need - and as long as you have moved forward, what you will focus on is how much better you feel than when you hit rock bottom. Sounds too simple? It bloody works mate).
...and change your ID tagline to 'Warrior Ready To Kick Ass.'
And your change of avatar and tagline is beauty to behold.

Nice work fella, and if you ever need a kick up the arse again, be assured that myself and many other warriors are more than happy to do it.

Whatever you think of this thread and the contributions made, is irrelevant to me. The only proof I need to see is the complete change in your attitude. You know as well as I do that that part of your persona was there all of the time, (otherwise you wouldn't have stuck at it so long with poor results) but it was temporarily buried in negativity.

Again, regardless of what you or anyone else thinks, it's made my day to see someone pull themselves up by the bootstraps and turn their head around and get their arse off the ground and out of their hands. Overall, a really positive thread. Thanks for coming back with a 'fired up' update - it makes the effort worthwhile.

I'll accept all the responsibility in the world, but she is not, nor ever will be a bitch. Understand that this very second.

          And as for absbica saying:

No offense my ass. You offended me more than anyone else. Would you want me bashing your wife calling her a bitch? I think not.

No, she makes me feel amazing. But when she calls me crying because people are still being F@# to her in the town where she lives, and how shes scared of not being with me, it brings me down and makes me wonder how the hell I'm going to get this to work.

          Good for you Sean,

I really look forward to you kicking it up and making it happen. Sometimes you have to scrape low before you realise that you want to start rising. Let's hope this is your low and now you're rising.

I have one suggestion for you:

Create a ebook on whatever (yes whatever) you like and you know everything about it. Make a simple site no need for high graphics, then sell your ebook for low price between 5-10$.
Also remove the thought from your mind of being looser in the past, just go on.
Write some articles and try your luck now.

I can understand your condition, I have gone through it but I haven't spend 3 years in learning without a sale, lol.

Just go for it, Best of luck!

Yes! I cried few times but I keep going and learning more about internet marketing. Here's a guide for you to succeess:

    1. focus on one business
    2. set specific goals (eg. how much you want to make in 2 months)
    3. create a specific plan
    4. implement your plan and blocked everything out until you reach your goal

Trust me, I started to make money only when I focus on one business.
You can add other stream of income later if you want.

I was calling the girl who cheated on you a bitch; not the current one.

There is never any justifiable reason for that other than sheer selfishness. If things are that bad, you should break up, or discuss an open relationship; not cheat.

And it's not like she only did it once.

I thought that you are with a different girl now. I could be wrong.

Some great advice here - but I think you need to separate your business activity from your love life. We all have "reasons" we can't focus or for why we can't get tasks done - we all have personal issues that take time and energy. It takes discipline to keep the work hours free of emotional angst.

A bad girlfriend isn't a business loss - a good one isn't a guarantee of success. Mixing personal and business too closely results in emotional ups and downs in business that are not helpful.

When working with your new mentor, set aside hours devoted to "work" and keep the personal aspects for "after work" just as you would if you had an offline job. Of course you'll tell the GF about how your business is going - but when doing business keep it to business and you won't be sidetracked into defending a relationship.

It might help if you were more specific about what you tried before - because I'm baffled as to how an intelligent person could try for so long and not see much better results.

What type of products did you try to promote? Do you have an example of a sales page that we could look at? (Are we allowed to link to those here in the main forum?)

I'm not an internet millionaire, and I have tried a couple of things that weren't profitable, but I make my living entirely on line and I've made a profit in a number of different ways, including an adsense site, clickbank product that I promoted with article marketing, and selling services online.

I mean, are you giving up too quickly on each project? Did you get people to review what you were doing and give honest feedback?

Think of it this way Dana.

I'm in a somehow similar position, although making a few hundred bucks a month. But maybe you can use some what I'm (try) doing right now.

        - Unsubscribe to ALL email subscriptions (sorry marketers but that's necessary), Don't visit forums and other stuff which distract you. Do that ONLY after 6 PM when your "working day" is over. Start early and take a little break each 2 hours

        - Pick ONE book, course or whatever which really shows a proven method (that you should know by now, after 3 years, even if only in theory)

        - Put your brain on success course, meaning that if you can boot a computer, set up a website or a Squidoo lens, Hub page etc. and write a decent copy, then YOU CAN MAKE MONEY ONLINE. 90% is technology, software and Google.

        - SET A GOAL. Let's set a small goal of 1'000 a month. That divided by 30 days and divided by the average commission of 20.- a sale. Only 2 SALES a DAY and you will be ahead of that goal.

        - 2 sales needs 200 visitors to your site. That 's PENANUTS with a little Article marketing. Get Squidoo, Hub, Propeller, Scibit, WP, Digg, Stumble etc. helping you to achieve that.

        - Pic ONE NICHE AND FOCUS (that's where I am right now) - DON't mix any other niche till you reached that 1'000.-. Perfectly if you pic a niche you have some to talk about because the net is all about quality content.

        - ALWAYS OVERDELIVER and help your audience. Regardless what you do, if you HELP you will be rewarded.

        - Set a daily plan, with hours. Need to research keywords, 2 hrs, write x articles 4 hrs, build a new Sduidoo Lens 1 hrs. etc.

        - Set up Tracking codes. You need to eliminate your losers to leverage your time and your investment. TTT = Test,Track and Tweak

Anyone who has the basic IM knowledge can do this. No excuses here. After 3 years and $3000 in material on your desktop you know it all.

        JUST DO IT!

When I hear of someone who doesn't make money for years without want of trying, I can only think of one thing.

    Poor time management.

The fact is you're probably not making the best use of your time to do things that are PROFITABLE.

You're probably not making enough SACRIFICES.

You're probably making wrong choices with your time day in and day out.

You're probably trying too hard, but not thinking critically. You're thinking of all the wrong things (the world is out to get me, everything is against me, I will DEFINITELY win). You're thinking emotionally, instead of critically.

You probably have the hunger, but not applying it the right way - in marketing, in business, and maybe in being greedy even.

    Sean,

I have been following your thread here and you already have gotten some great advice. Great to have people that will 'watch your back'.

Here's what I would like to add:

No, she makes me feel amazing. But when she calls me crying because people are still being F@# to her in the town where she lives, and how shes scared of not being with me, it brings me down and makes me wonder how the hell I'm going to get this to work.

But, I've a mentor who is going to teach me what I need to do to make myself a success. I want to thank him for contacting me and offering help I'd have been desperately trying to find elsewhere.
The first thing the two of you need to decide is if your relationship is strong enough to push on through. It sounds like it is.

Next, the two of you have to decide to stop letting everyone determine whether you should be together. That decison is not theirs to make. Kind of like not letting 'naysayers' determine whether to do IM or not.

If you find that you can get past the first two parts, then you are well on your way. You see, the fact that you are making the effort is what she sees and is willling to support you in doing so. By continually maintaining a steady line of communication, you will maintain a unity in what you do. Without unity, your relationship is doomed.

Since a relationship is all about give and take (emphasis on give), what you are seeing is she is willing to give to help the two of you carry on. Nothing wrong with that. If you are making your best effort to succeed, her support will play a big role in things. It sounded like this was a bigger concern that you failure at business and yet it can play an important part.

The reason I say all this, is that this is a true test of what your relationship is made of. It's easy to make things work in the good times, but what happens when things get rough.

I guess that's why the marriage vows go with 'for richer or poorer, sickness and in health' etc.

Either way, I think that you can have it all by following the solid business advice you are getting here and following your heart in your relationship. Maybe now's a good time to put together an overall strategy that helps to bring the two of you together.

One thing I do know, is things of the heart can devastate the things of the mind. Get your relationship sorted out and everything else will fall into place.

    Thanks,

    John

Yes, wording is a key point here on the fabulous net. If you don't word something correctly, someone may think something different than what you want altogether.

If you've only made $200 in 3 years you haven't done anything...I have one Squidoo lens that's done more than that, lol.

    Building Futures,

(dude, you need to use your name)

when you first joined this forum, you posted a thread along the lines of "Am I Immature?" You posted some personal issues and encouraged (humorous) responses. You and I crossed swords a little because once confronted with some comments on those aspects of your life, as presented in that thread, you got a little offended, annoyed or even indignant.

The result was that I think you and I became friends.

    ("Awwww" - for Valerie!)

In that thread or via PM, I can't remember now, I recollect saying that if you needed any help with anything to just let me know. You said you where working on something and you'd get back to me via PM.

    You never did.

You have done the same thing here. You posted some pretty personal stuff and appear to have been offended by some of the replies. Of course people are going to comment. The way that you wrote about the $20K girl did indeed make her sound like a bitch, for example. So why be offended when people agree with you?

This does display a lack of emotional maturity. But the apparent change from the forlorn to the go-getter goes some way to ameliorate this.

    Please act on it.

There are so many inspirational people here, with such inspirational stories, that almost every day I come across someone I admire and respect. Many have posted in this thread. They have given a ton of great advice.

    Please take it.

If someone has gone to the trouble to genuinely reach out to you in order to help, please take them up on it. Heed their advice but also make sure that not only is it valid, but also that it fits with a kind of business that *you* would like to run.

Don't just follow the quick buck. There's nothing worse than creating a business that at one time seemed like a good idea but quickly becomes a millstone.

    Trust me I know.

Good luck and my offer stands...always.

Remember that anything really is possible. If you doubt this, perhaps spend a little time getting to know some of the people around here. They are living testament to this fact.

it seems you focus(ed) too much on other products which promised YOU "the next big thing" <--- am i right?

Do you want to know the truth?

The people making the MOST money are the ones SELLING "the next big thing" to others.

( If you look around, i have the impression that currently the really BIG sellers are IM training/coaching courses....some EXTENSIVE programs coming with 20 DVDs and hours and hours of material *promising* to everyone how they can get RICH themselves. This just as a side note. There are obviously coaching courses sold for $2000....and some people OBVIOUSLY got rich selling this training to others. Maybe you want to look into this )

Being a marketer myself i always have a healthy scepticism. Is there REALLY the "golden egg laying goose" which i can buy, making me "super rich" just by following this or that method? MAYBE, MABYE NOT.

I am telling you, i myself "believe" in only approx 15% of any claims of any fellow marketer when it comes to "the next big thing"...the reason is there are just "too many" "next big things" around and i just dont "BUY IT" <-- (in any sense)

So...you can keep hoping for "the next big thing"...which probably might never come since it ONLY exists for the marketer selling this to you - or go the hard and slow way.

Do NOT "phantasize" of the next big thing, there are things which are proven and steady. And you can build upon them.

The internet gives you plenty of oportunities to look around, eg. here on the forum, getting ideas. One might work for you, MANY wont.

    Most importantly: KEEP IT REAL.

Look at what you can do, how "realistic" it is, forget any unrealistic expectations of millions coming in next week. Also, think like a customer, what a customer wants...and whether you can deliver to their needs.

    Thats the most important thing!

Its not your "desire for money".....because the customer doesnt care about YOUR desire for money. Think what the CUSTOMER wants and how and what you can do to deliver it to them.

That is exactly right. I was too focused on the next big thing.

But, I'm going to make my own big thing now.

      Lets see how I do!

      Hey George,

Whether deliberate or just a misspelling, "phantasize," is an awesome portmanteau for this context!

I may have to nick that!

I can relate to every message in here. Everyone does it all wrong when starting out. You don't sell the product, in fact it doesn't matter what the product is. Discover attraction marketing and set yourself up as a leader, someone who can help others...it's the only way. If you can't sell yourself how can you expect to sell anything else?

According to Dan Kennedy, in his book Business Success,
"Some people think and talk in terms of trying a business or
trying out the entrepreneurial experience. Before achieving major
success in business myself, I went through considerable agony,
corporate and personal bankruptcy, stress, embarrassment,
humiliation and near starvation. If I had been just "trying",
just taking a test drive, I'd have quit. And make no mistake
about it, my experience is the norm among ultimately
    successful entrepreneurs.
    (pg 6,7 emphasis mines)

You're in good company if you don't quit!

Maybe you are creating products that are over people's heads? A really good thing to do is to show people your web site etc when they are actually in the room with you.... different kinds of people... and observe what happens. See where they get stuck. See if you can get them to tell you where they "fell off". This sort of info is invaluable.

You certainly know how to write a killer headline and copy that pulls people in - look how many responses this thread has accumulated.

Remember, a chain breaks at its weakest link. You might be really good at 90% of internet marketing, but have completely missed one vital point which is preventing you from success. In other words, that's how it goes. You bust your ass for ages trying to make the thing fly and then you crack it and it takes off.

And as far as it taking longer to succeed is concerned - I quote Machiavelli: "That which is acquired with ease is held on to with difficulty; that which is acquired with difficulty is held on to with ease."

I say "move the free line". The best successes I have ever had online have been when I decided to give away "more than I should have done" for free. The next thing you know, people start linking to you, you achieve popularity. If you can achieve popularity, you will achieve success online.

Don't worry about anyone's opinion. Stay strong - remember, success is "get knocked down eight times get up nine." Everything that is worth achieving will push you beyond your limits at some point. But it's only by going beyond ourselves, outside of our comfort zone, that we grow.

      Wow, thanks for that.

I've certainly got people who are willing to help me out here, and my new mentor is really helping me out.

As for writing killer headline and copy, I just got lucky. There are threads I've started that no one pays attention to, haha!
