Domain flipping on Sedo or Ebay?

by seolearner09 6 replies
Hi

For anyone who is into domain flipping (domain names only and not websites), have you used any one of the two above?

If so, which would you recommend out of the two?

I know with eBay you will probably get much lower prices as this would be more of a bargain hunters/reseller marketplace. However, which would be more likely to achieve domain name sales?

Also, with Sedo, has anyone found the category and homepage featured listing upgrades useful?

I have just listed mine, but to achieve higher visits and to make/create bids and sales, I know I will need to actively promote them. So would be interested if anyone uses the featured listing upgrades and if it helps them (or a waste of money!)

Many thanks in advance.

    Hi

I have done both, you are correct in your assumption that Ebay prices tend to be lower, however, Sedo fees are high and it takes a long time to go through the sales process whereas Ebay is all done and dusted in 10 days, so it is scales and balances.

Sedos premium listing/features category/frontpage etc are ok if you are looking at domins with a high value, but you have to be aware of the selling fee on top of the fees for the featuring, I know allot of domainers are turning away from Sedo due to their high fees.

You can also sell domains on Flippa, if UK Domains try Acorn Domains and Domain Lore, or DN Forum for others.

For Sedo's feature listings, would you say it is best to set a fixed price, or just allow visitors to make offers. Not quite sure, very new to this. Many thanks.

If you have a bunch of domains that might be IM related, you can also list them here in Complete Sites for Sale. I wouldn't bother with Ebay. Bunch of cheapos.

I list on Sedo and Afternic also, but it's pretty passive. I list them and forget about them and some of them eventually sell. I've never paid for the Featured enhancements on Sedo, so can't tell you if that works or not.

      Hi

Domains are mainly loans/car insurance/travel/weight loss type of names, plus others but all are high commercial value I try to target.

For Sedo, do you list a buy it now price, or just allow for buyers to make offers? Which would be best in your opinion

      Thanks for your help.

Sounds like good niches for domains on Sedo or Afternic. I list in both places. I use a BIN price. I used to just let people make an offer, but sold less of them that way.

You could also send emails to people who might be interested in the domains. That's a less passive way to sell domains and it's worked out well for me for some domains. I've got a free ebook that tells more about that method, if you're interested. http://ping.fm/4eUDI No opt in or anything required.

          Thanks for the link.

To list a BIN price, how do you value the domain roughly. This is the hardest part I find doing.

I know you can get free domain name vaulation tools online, But I find these useless. I have used Afternic's paid appraisal service for one domain, but don't want to continue using this until I sell my first one or anymore after that.

Is there a way or somewhat effective method to roughly gauge the market value or price you can place for a BIN. Say loans or car insurance for example.

Finally, have you used Sedo's auctions? This is where I am trying to get listed, but I need an offer first, or a very generic and short name (this is what they require).

          Many thanks for your time.
