Do .US domains appear professional?

Do you think that .US domains are professional looking? I want a .com for my business but the one I want is going for $5,088 because it's a premium domain. But the .US is available and it's only $4.

Will this deter potential customers at all? What do you think about .US domains?

If you are based in the U.S and you're targetting U.S customers it would look professional in my eyes. You could always start with .us and then when the .com and other extensions become available you could buy them.

I agree with Coastline. I mean pretty much every website out of Japan uses .jp and it's pretty much the same for the United Kingdom (.uk). If your target audience is in the United States, then .us is fair game.

I see it as spammy to use .us. Maybe it's just me, but I prefer .net if you could get that... I don't like visiting .us sites. JMHO!

I don't use them. When you are searching for a great domain, you will often find that .us is the only extension available. There's a reason for that. Most people don't use them or like them.

I don't like them; but to qualify that, I have to say that I am not a USA resident. I would assume that they are effective for local USA businesses.

For my offline business in the UK, I use .co.uk, it's a sack of s*it but it's the best we've got. For on-line businesses, .com is the best. It's the suffix that just about every one in the world recognises.

Just to clarify; what I have said above is in relation to humans and what they think of, remember and type into their browsers. I am not relating to search engines.

      Just my thoughts,

      Jeff.
