Marketer Gone Stupid?

If I end up on a list and don't like what I'm sent - I get off the list.

However, the unsubscribe I just did deserves attention. I don't know what happened to the marketer. I don't know who it is as there's a cute company name behind the emails. I've been on the list for almost a year because here and there the emails were worth reading.
This is the 19th of October - and I've received 28 emails from this person this month. Two and even three emails a day - sometimes ten minutes apart - each advertising a different WSO as the "best thing out there".

Thing is - this marketer sent from 1-10 emails a month until now. All of a sudden he is blasting his list and you have to wonder if there's any thought behind the process. Either this marketer sold his list, is desperate for money or developed a huge case of "dumb" recently.

Is this you? If so, what the hell are you thinking? I'd really like to know why anyone would think inundating their list like this makes sense.

Damn that is crazy 28 emails in the first 19 days of October is insane, my guess is he probably sold his list OR he is having a problem with his AR.

but my main guess is he sold his business along with the email list and the person who now has the email list does not know what they are doing

Kay, I think I know who that may be, because this started happening about a month ago. I now get 2 or 3 emails from him every day, and there is now a business name on the emails, but he still owns the business.

I am starting to unsubscribe from most lists. If I were to spend just one minute looking at each email I get, it would take over 6 hours each day. Usually I hit delete, delete, delete.

There are a few (mostly warriors) whose emails I always read. They always give good, useful info each time.

    I need to continue unsubscribing.

...or maybe they had more success than usual on a specific mailing and have now been blinded by greed.

Greed can be a good thing, but it's also powerful. When that power falls into the wrong hands crazy things can happen. That's my guess as to what's going on with this particular marketer.

    All the best,

There's a list of emails on Flippa. I mean, people will try and fail with email marketing... what do they have left to do? They'll turn to the easiest methods of making money. Like a catchy ad on Flippa... selling their whole list. Unethical, illegal, and disgusting.

I think I'm on the same list.

I don't frequent this forum like I used to, and only recently found out that
the WSO forum has an affiliate program, so that is probably why I am receiving many more emails from this person than before. They are all now promoting WSOs. LOL.

Nice to see you again Kay... it's been a while since I've been active on here. Hope you're doing well.

Wow! even 10 emails a month is too much for me! I hate a cluttered mailbox, but 28 in 19 days? WTF!

Ben - I think it was the same one that was my tipping point. Same email - slightly different subject - five MINUTES apart. Oh puhleeze!

I hope some reading this take it seriously. If you have people who have stayed on your list for almost a year and have occasionally bought or at least clicked on your links - this kind of email blasting just doesn't make sense. Sounds like several of us were on that list - am I the only unsubscribe?

Hi guys I am not sure if you are aware of this but several of the "gurus" have put out recently that you should email you list with valuable content at least once a day. So that people do not forget who you are and so that you can offer them more value. I believe that a lot of people that are just affiliate marketing have taken that to mean just make offers at least once a day. I have been getting this too, by the way.

So he might not have gone crazy, but I do not believe that he is offering his list the best value that he could. He could do a little more besides just tout off about the WSO. Like maybe talk about using the forum or how to find little gems of a thread, besides just trying to sell the next WSO. That being said if he is not been doing well with his email marketing he may have just gotten some of this bad info and is now trying this approach instead.

If you like what he was doing before then contact him and let him know. That will let him learn from his mistake. Or he can create a sub list with all the clients that liked how he did things before. Or just unsubscribe. Either way he will get the message soon enough.

Just my thoughts on this. =D

Marketers should've not followed that tip from "guru". That was the most annoying thing that they have ever done for the people in their list. Yes, they were remembered but in a negative way.

Dude probably built a large list but one that isn't responsive so he's burning through it. Burn and churn.

He could also be selling solo ads to anyone that pays. Message/product not important.

Regular promotions, promoting all the WSO's that are out there, and selling solo ads = 28 emails in 19 days.

Is there any way to block specific mailing domains within cPanel? Perhaps this is an irrelevant question, but, I've been battling a similar problem. I've tried unsubscribing from a similar mailing list, and used the link, but I think it just confirmed that I'm a live account. But all of the spam comes from the same domain name. I need to block it.

    Thanks.

Not that I would say sending out 1 email a day or several emails a day would be a good strategy for email marketing, although it could be depending on your end goal in mind.

But... doesn't the warrior forum send out their WSO of The Day offer, once per day? Sometimes TWICE per day? With no beneficial content except the news of what the WSO of the day is.

Maybe that doesn't piss people off because they clearly tell you they'll be sending you an email at least once per day... it's called WSO of the Day for a reason.

In fact, all deal of the day websites send you one email per day, sometimes multiple depending on their structure.

It's interesting to note though, how it's deemed acceptable for some to do it, while it's not deemed acceptable for others to do it. I guess that goes back to the whole purpose of "permission marketing". If you sign up to someones list and they clearly tell you they'll be bombarding your email address with daily emails, sometimes multiple emails per day, and you still sign up to it, you've given them permission to do it and therefore are ok with it.

Lesson learned and mental note taken I'm not the sender of those emails by the way!

Although, I'd bet anything they've seen more money in the past 20 days than they've seen normally.

I think this goes to show just how little people know how to interact with other humans.

I have a number of lists and I actually ask them what they expect from me and then get them to go on different lists depending on what they want. I speak to them, interact with them and find out what they expect from me.

If, as mentioned the so called guru's are telling you to mail them once a day or people will forget you, well that suggests to me that all these big gurus must be in the short term memory niche or they have magically generalised that their entire lists and all the people they recommend this to are as thick as two short planks.

If you like lots of offers of the "best thing ever" several times a day then fair enough but reading the above replies to this sort of marketing, does suggest most people sending these emails haven't got a clue what they're doing when it comes to email marketing - including these "well known" marketers, which incidentally is the reason I'm not on any of their lists. :p

        That's nothing!

        I joined a list last week and I've received 30 e-mails
        already.

The list is averaging 5 e-mails per day so I guess there
will be a few more coming through today.

And they are ALL blatant pitches. Get this, get that,
go here, go there - ALL affiliate links. ZERO content.

What's more, when I joined the list there was no indication
of the level of frequency and he didn't tell me that I'd be
signed-up to his friends list - at the same time either.

        What a knob.

        Why haven't I unsubscribed yet?

Because it's a good lesson in what NOT to do and how NOT
        to treat your list.

No. The "WSO of the Day" offers are run by Mike Lantz, whose company is a separate entity from the Warrior Forum.

I can't even remember the last time I got an email or PM from the Warrior Forum itself. I think dinosaurs were still roaming the earth the last time Allen (the WF owner) contacted the WF members.

I remember being advised NOT to try to unsubscribe from a mailing list. That to try to do so will just show the sender that you are being noticed and if they are unscrubulous they will not grant your request anyhow. This is the way I have followed, just click them out everyday. But I do admit I am resentful that I have to do this everyday and if I miss even one, there are hundreds of messages in my inbox, both unsolicited and unwanted

This is not true. If you unsubscribe most times you will successfully be unsubscribed. When you opt out the sender has 10 business days to remove you or it violates the CAN-SPAM ACT.

That advice was probably intended to apply to lists you didn't subscribe to, and in that case, it is often true that all you're doing is confirming to a spammer that you have an active email address. That gets you more spam and gets your email address sold to other spammers.

Any legitimate list that you subscribe to should honor your unsubscribe request, though I'm sure there are some that don't.

While I'm just getting started, and have some emails I simply cannot live without there's 2 things I consider when on a list.

1.) Are they sending me something I can find value in? (paid or not)
2.) Are they simply just throwing their garbage in my inbox, hoping for a sale?

None-the-less, I found a simple solution, and I might be a prick for this, but if they get under my skin, I don't "opt-out" anymore!

Nope, simple filter, "skip the inbox" and while it may not be much, email marketing costs money!

If your gonna abuse it, you should pay for it. So I'll let em send me emails til the cows come home, I just won't ever see them!

Then there's those who actually send me some killer info that I really feel "guilty" because I can't afford the $197 right now. Although I stay opted-in looking forward to digging deeper into their offer, when time and money permits. Many, I already know I will buy, for it's almost easy to see which offers hold great benefits, and are worth far more value than the price of admission.

Not to name names, but the DOE is a prime example. I can't wait to get in there!

Truth be told, up til now, I was 'scared' to mail to my lists. And as such, didn't focus enough on building them... which is an utter FAIL!

Now, with some time and research, I am going wide-open on a mission to list build, and start managing prospects. With the help of those here, I think I've learned "what NOT to do!"

And I'll still probably make plenty of mistakes!

You know, I think I send out maybe 8 emails a month...if that.

Yeah, I know...I don't sell hard enough. Shoot me.

I don't get the 3 emails a day philosophy (and I get them from some of the
biggest names out there) because in my opinion, it's overkill. But, like I'll always
say, test and see what works for you.

If this is working for them, you can't knock it because it's money in their
pocket, which is the bottom line. And as long as they're making it ethically
(there is nothing unethical about sending somebody lots of email as long as
you were clear up front during the opt in process) then God bless 'em.

Me? I'd have to be drunk out of my mind to email somebody that much.

Unless of course it was some hot chick who I was trying to put the bite on.

But since I'm married and off the market for chicks, hot or otherwise, that's
      not going to happen.

Anyway, whatever floats their boat I guess.

Since I'm retired I get less spam.

I guess they know I'm probably not going to buy anything.

Sounds like desperation to me. Either that or his autoresponder service has gotten reallly buggy and the marketer isn't aware of it (which goes to show you that you should place at least a couple of your own e-mails on your own lists so you can see what's going down).

A 180,000 email list on Fiverr. After Fiverr and PayPal fees what does the seller get around $3.80? Is that even a penny per subscriber?

Perhaps I have been seeing this person's emails as well. I got 8 overnight the other day. Gmail nicely rolls them up into one convenient package for eady deletion.

I would be probably one of the last people to tell other people how to run their business. I think that kind of emailing is a decision that was made, and that person has the right to make that decision in their business.

But as a result of any decision made by anyone, there a whole bunch of subsequent decisions that can be made. And I made mine to unsubscribe from this particular list. Then I found that I was on a number of lists from the same person, and that was why I got so many emails, so it took me a little while to unsubscribe from all of them, but I managed to do it.

Good...natural (self) selection at work. They'll email themselves out of business. We don't have to lift a finger. Except to unsub.

BTW, while I feel the WarriorPlus affiliate program is a plus overall, it has given rise to (newbie) Warriors who are so blatantly amateurish in their attempt to sound like a pro that it's laughable.

And it's given rise to what I'd call "forum leeches": nothing to say in their emails but some inane gibberish in an attempt to sound friendly/personally at the start of the email, then they ZAP! you with WSOs.

I have given up on buying WSOs...unless they come highly recommended by names I deem respectable. Then again, if THESE start to go the same route, then they'll drop to the bottom of the heap, just like the rest of them.

    Cheers...

there is this popular warrior whose products I've bought and I was happy to get on his list because he gave lots of value...however, he started emailing 2-3 times per day. He lost me as a subscriber, I'm sorry.

List builders should take lessons from Paul Myers and how he treats those who subscribe to his TalkBiz News. He writes a proper newsletter. Sure there are self-promotional links, as well as a few affiliate offers. But he treats his list with respect, doesn't inundate you with multiple mails per day, and he gives you quality info.

I suggest that people who aren't on Paul's list subscribe, if for no other reason than to learn how it's supposed to be done.

I'm also on the same list, did wonder why he was emailing so frequently. His products are good and I find the information valuable. But at the moment, he seems to jus to be spamming wso related offers...
