Next step or First step?

Well, I really want to jump into this internet marketing gig, I am a blogger and an average freelancer. I usually work on squidoo/hubpages things like that. I love to write which is why I think I should provide a service of something like "ill Write you articles for this amount . . ." My question is really whats the next step? or the first step to get my "Gig/business" off the ground.

First step...always starts with a business plan. Do your research, prove that there is a market for your product/service, define your market, develop marketing strategies. If you can prove to yourself that your idea is viable, you have a market for your product/service and can compete against others for the same market, then get started.

Step 2. Follow your business plan. If done properly, you would have outlined a step by step process to building a successful business.

You won't make good money writing articles for others. Your goal should be to hire others to write articles for you. I'm telling you this as someone who also started by writing articles, and realized it was a complete waste of time. Not even in the sense of, "it led me to my next big idea ..." - not at all.

Start your own business. Look out for opportunities, and/or services. Buy low, sell high. It's the same principle, but the approach has to be totally yours.

    Best Regards,

Well I agree you won't if all you can compete on is price. But there are many, many writers just here on WF who earn sums per article that the bargain basement shoppers would find astronomical, but that their clients are happy to pay.

The 'secret' is to work for people who value high-quality content , and are willing to invest in it (because they know it makes them money in return.)

(Of course you have to have the chops to provide that level of content, that goes without saying)

      Good luck with it,
      Jeremy

ok, if you want to start to earn money by writing content for other people.Firstly, you should build a popular website or blog which is relevant to your service.JUst make it popular social networking service ,like facebook,twitter,digg.etc.when you gain enough authority from your followers and fans, i think you will get much more work by their referral.okay, you may be very busy to write the quality content if do it by yourself.and may start a new service in the site to let other writters to join to do work for you.I mean you can hire some people to do it for you.thus, you will earn more..

Have you tried joining online market place such as freelancer or odesk? you can get employers there who are willing to pay you for writing articles.

You can make money by writing for other people as a ghostwriter like on sites like Elance and through submitting content through various sites like IWriter or Associated Content. Sites like Iwriter allow you to work at your own pace and what not, but they pay really cheaply. I also personally don't like having to work for every dollar I earn. I prefer stuff that allows me to generate residual income - work once but continue to profit. Being a ghostwriter does, however, allow you to be paid via Paypal.

Since you like to write, there is also another option open to you that allows you to write on a variety of topics, generate residual income, work at your own pace and be paid via Paypal -- opening your own PLR store. PLR stands for Private Label Rights and is content, usually written, that people can buy, modify, and use as their own. You make money by writing packs of content based on what people are looking for the in the search engines. You can also take request through an opt-in form, and run PLR specials to generate large sums of money quickly.

    Good luck,
    Joey

One of the best ways to make money from your writing skills is by creating solutions to people’s problem through your writing. The reality is that there are many niches with millions of people looking for solutions to their problems, and a lot of these people are starting to resort to the internet to get a solution to their problem. You can easily make effective use of this opportunity to make money as a writer by creating a blog. Your blog should be focused on helping a particular set of people find solutions to their problems through your articles. Over time, a lot of people will discover your blog and tell their friends about it, and some of them will even end up subscribing to your blog to be a long-term reader. Once you have built your blog to a stage where it is trusted and read by a lot of people, you can easily monetize it using a lot of techniques...but that would be later...on the meantime while your blog is still gaining popularity write for revenue sharing sites or perform occasional freelance writing jobs.
    Good luck.

As an article writer myself, I'm with Vip-ip - start your own business! I make a little each month writing, basically enough for basic web hosting. But that's just a cost-covering exercise, and I know that there aren't enough hours in the day for me to scale up into a bigger venture.

So for me it's a five articles a week, which takes 5 hours including research and submission to Constant Content and others. Then the rest of the time, I work on my mini niche "empire"!

    Hope this helps,

    Andy :-)

I'll politely disagree here. I make enough money with my writing to justify spending my time doing it. I have other businesses which produce passive income (although nothing is truly passive), but the immediate income that results from providing services is nice as well.

OP, your grammar will have to be much better than what is on display here if you expect to be paid well, but that is something you can improve with practice.

If you want to write, write a couple of samples and put an ad in Warriors for Hire. Check it out and you'll see a lot of busy writers advertising there.

You can make money writing. Just diversify. If all you do is article writing it will be harder on you. Write your own products and either market them or stick em on Amazon - take different types of assignments. Write offline (which usually pays better, btw, than online).

Do a little of every type of writing you can find. Doing so broadens your perspective and your exposure to varied audiences. Some work will pay chump change for coffee and some will put a roof over your head and car in the driveway. Online, the money is in info products (your own mostly) and in copy writing (salespages, etc). Offline the money is in writing reports for the gov. and manuals for corporations. If you have a field you have credentials in (degree, certificates, licenses, etc) - check out what gov contracts in the field are up for bid. Magazines can pay well, too, but you have to hunt for the ones that pay. Most pay better than the majority of what you will find online. If you have research to do for a major project - find any writing in that field you can do even if the pay is minimal - that way you can actually make a few bucks while you get your research done, instead of losing money when putting your time into research.

Don't get discouraged during dips in projects. Get major projects in when you can and fill time between major projects with small, quick assignments that don't take all of your time so you can keep large projects in the works and aren't spending all your time on dead ends.

    Um......that's about it, I think.
