Where to put social buttons on a sales site?

On my new site I originally had my social buttons (Facebook, Twitter) etc in the middle of the page, after the video. But after reading about a phenomenon called the Zeigarnik effect I decided to put the buttons at the bottom of the page, after the "buy now" bit.

Why? Because the Zeigarnik effect basically says that people don't like uncompleted tasks, which means they don't like being distracted, meaning the social buttons become an unnecessary and harmful (in terms of conversions) distraction.

That's the theory anyway. As my site is new I haven't been able to measure any difference. So I was wondering if anyone has experienced any difference any conversions after adding social buttons and moving them to different places on the page?

    kdavies,

I think you did the right thing.

I would still have links to your social sites and rss feed in the header or footer or sidebar.

I presume you are talking about the social sharing buttons on all of your posts, however.

Just don't have too many and be on the lookout for plugins that make sharing easier.

    Good luck.

You did the right thing. Just like George said though, its still good to have social sites. Just make sure that once they are clicked, it will open in a new page so they won't get redirected from your sales page.
