How many strangers watch your kids?

It's amazing to me how much third party services are relied on in this industry. You know what almost all of the Fortune 500 companies do? Bring it in house. There are SO many ways to do this, but here are just a few:

If you do over $1k per week, get a merchant account.
Create your own link cloak (it takes seconds).
Use your own link shortener.
Back up your files (in case hosting goes down)
Etc.

Anything that you can do to reduce the vulnerability of your business, do! Reduce your stress ;-)

oh nice subject line, you nailed it.

I am not sure if i understood your whole thread post.

But I like your signature, it reminds me of the Niche Profit Classroom niche sites.

The idea of it is that having your business rely on 3rd parties is like letting strangers watch your kids; it is not literal.

While the point is quite obvious once you read the post, it's not at all obvious when scanning subject lines.

I saw it, and thought I'd be reading a privacy rant of some kind, especially since it was buried on page three with few responses.

That said, the post content itself deserves the bump this reply will give it...

    My gosh, yes.

Don't rely on shared hosting - own your own server.

Don't rely on Google Adsense - they can kill your business in one fell swoop.

Don't rely on your website developer to fix things when problems emerge - learn some simple maintenance yourself and take control!

I hate hate hate it whenever I feel like I'm dependent upon others for my business to move forward. I need a graphic? I make it myself. My site dies a flaming agonizing death? I take a day off, research how to fix it, and manually bring it back to life (that happened in September).

Always give yourself permission to learn as much as possible so you're not left in the dark when the lights go out....you know enough to kindle your own brightness.
