Will You Please 'Look Over' My Game-Plan?? =) I'm Somewhat Unsure....

I'd like to run some ideas by all of you out there who are successful with IM. I have chosen my niche, affiliate product, have content ready, a great list of keywords, and my domain name...

I'm currently at the 'site-creation' process, and it is daunting. :rolleyes:

I have decided to go with Wordpress, as it is the easiest for myself - I'd like to go ahead and list what I would like to do regarding my site, and if anyone would offer their pros, cons, advice, suggestions, and/or pointers it would be highly appreciated!

Ok, so I was thinking of keeping it as simple as possible. The main focus of my site is to deliver great content and encourage people to opt into my email list.

Home Page:

I envision a simple homepage, with my site title at top left, an incentivized opt-in as the main banner, a short section below that with some 'power copy' then perhaps a smaller 'blog' feature below that where updates are made from the actual blog (has it's own tab), and finally - my footer.

About:

Self-explanatory

Blog:

Where I would post my articles and content too

Products:

Where I can display recommended (affiliate) products etc.

That would basically consist of it all - however, this now leads me to the main question I wanted to ask...

When I post my site's link to other sites (in the resource box, blog commenting, etc.) - I'd like to refer any generated traffic to a landing page with the best of my content displayed on a static page of sorts.

Good idea, bad idea?

Plus - does anyone know of a way that I can post all of my content to my blog tab - but only allow specific posts to be seen on the 'blog' portion of my homepage?

I hope this makes sense, haha! :p:rolleyes:

Please share your thoughts & thank you for your time!

    if you asked 100 different people you would get 100 different opinions, the best thing you can do is just begin to act on it try everything you possibly can before moving on to the next idea.

    Good plan, however you want to point your links to many different pages for backlinks. The way I do this is I always point one link to my main landing page, then the other link in my resource box goes to a blog post or another page on my site.

    Start with at least 30 posts before you plan an email opt in.

    Display products after you have enough posts. You should have more posts than ads ;-).

    "When I post my site's link to other sites (in the resource box, blog commenting, etc.) - I'd like to refer any generated traffic to a landing page with the best of my content displayed on a static page of sorts."

    You could do that but visitors may go out of your site if the post titles don't hold their interest. I suggest a pillar post on the main page and you can build backlinks to your main page. Your sidebar can have a list of popular posts or recent posts. You also need to backlink to other pages as well depending on what you would like to promote.

      Thanks for all the responses from everyone! I felt it necassary to pose my question here on the forums so I could gauge it's success, beings as I'm fairly new to most of this yet...

      Could you please explain to me what a 'pillar post' is perhaps? It sounds interesting....

      Thanks!

        Brekat23:

        Just my opinion here ...

        "The main focus of my site is to deliver great content." My first suggestion would be to narrow your focus and determine exactly what it is that you want to do.

        Are you a writer? If so, what niches can you comfortably and professionally write about? I think if you try to be everything to everyone, you'll have a tough time trying to sell your services.

        I doubt if webmasters (is that your target audience?) go searching for material by looking for "writers" or "authors."

        If you choose a niche (or several related), then you can narrow your pool of targeted prospects and advertise your services within one or more niches. If you don't do that, I'm afraid you'll have a hard time appealing to general audiences.

        As far as a web site goes, I would look for a WordPress template that is designed as a CMS (content management system). Or even better, look for a good value in a php CMS that you can sell from.

        Great questions!

        A 'pillar post' is one that is chock-full of excellent content and used as a resource by others. ie, a 'pillar' that holds up your blog.

        Here's one of my pillar posts:

        How To Brilliantly Turn Failure Into Money for 2012 – Pillar | Barbara Ling, Your Maverick Virtual Coach

        Now, about how to get your posts to display on a page....

        The 'list category' plugin above is great - Query Posts Widget: WordPress Plugin is also a solution.

        Now, you can also teach yourself a bit about the Wordpress php and write some code that pulls in specific posts to a page. I recently did that meself for

        Rockin’ Content and Product Creation | Barbara Ling, Your Maverick Virtual Coach

        What the code there does is it simply pulls in the snippets from one specific category (in my case, category #498). Took some time to hack that out but once understood, it's not that daunting.

        Heck, here's the code:

        Code:
        <?php

        query_posts('cat=498');
        if (have_posts()) : ?><?php while (have_posts()) : the_post(); ?>
        <div php="">
            <h2><a href="<?php the_permalink(); ?>" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent Link to <?php the_title_attribute(); ?>;"><?php the_title(); ?></a></h2>

            <div class="entry"><?php the_post_thumbnail(array(175,175), array('class' =>'alignright')); ?> <?php the_excerpt('Read the rest of this entry &raquo;'); ?>
                <div class="tinyimg"><font color="red" size="+2">&hearts; <a href="<?php the_permalink(); ?>;">Entranced? Continue Reading HERE!</a></font></div>
                <div class="cl">&nbsp;</div>
            </div>
            <div class="meta">
                <div class="bg">&nbsp;</div>
                <div class="bot">&nbsp;</div>
            </div>
        </div>
        <?php endwhile; ?><?php endif ?><?php wp_reset_query(); ?>

        The above code has to be added in Source view, but it works very well indeed.

        This was probably too much info. But hope it helps!

    I like to find one product in a niche that I will promote. I call this my editors choice. So find one product with lots of search that pays you well for a sale. Then review other products but always have your main product set as your Editor's Top Pick. You'll get traffic for the other related products and hopefully your Editors top pick will be enough to sway them to buy.
