    Welcome to the forums!

A domain name is your own address on the Internet. Think of it like your address at home - ie, "555 Main Street".

"Hosting" is the provider who gives you the space to put your files for your domain. To use the above analogy, "hosting" would be the space where you can build your house (ie, the "land" at "555 Main Street.")

The "files" or "content" at your domain name could be related to the "house" you build.

So....if you buy a domain, you need to then buy the space to host it at.

And then you need to build said domain too on your hosting provider.

    Hope that helps!

This explains hosting and domains perfectly, as for the second part of your question about getting free hosting and domains there some places that offer that service but I wouldn't recommend it.

This is because free normally comes with conditions, like you have to place their advertising on your site among other things.

If you are serious about building a web business then you want to have total control over your sites and what goes on them.

Besides you can buy a domain for a year for under $10 at Namecheap or GoDaddy and get hosting for under $10 per month at Hostgator.

I also recommend that you not spend any money until you know how you plan to make money online, whether you are building a list, affiliate marketing, selling your own products or services, blogging or any combination of any of the above.

      Hope this helps

    Hi Osool,

You can get the answers to basic questions like this by using Google or the search function here on the Warrior Forum. While that may not seem like a helpful answer to your question, learning to find answers that way is very helpful indeed. Best of luck to you, and welcome to the forum!

Well I'll try to explain it to you in a simple way.

    Domain = it's basically website's address (www.domain.com).
Hosting = every website needs to be hosted somewhere, right? It's basically a space where all files from website are stored. You can host websites on your own servers, or buy web hosting service from companies (HostGator, bluehost, etc...).

But if that's not good enough, then take a look at wikipedia links:
    - Domain name
    - Web hosting

    osool,
This confused me when I was starting out too. Now it means you have to budget for the domain name and the hosting. Good Luck to you,
