I got 3000 hits from a reddit post. Is that normal?

Hi guys. Yesterday I signed up for reddit and posted a link to one of my blog posts. It was actually within the subbreddit section.

Anyway the post hovered around 70 points and ended up drawing over 3000 visitors to my blog in one day, plus it made new backlinks from people reposting.

I just thought I would share if you don't already know, the power of Reddit!

I'm just figuring it out.

Any Reddit Experts here?

I was considering reddit to generate leads, for an e-book I just wrote. Anyone have any success doing this? I'd be real curious to hear from folks.

Reddit is extremely powerful but only if you use it properly. Remember most people on reddit are not browsing to buy products or e-books but too simply look up interesting content. Making money with reddit is far from easy and if you noticed the OP didn't no state any income because the extra visitors probably didn't make much difference apart from the fact that it increased the amount of bandwidth they used.

When making money with most social media sites you must use these three points in order.

    1. Give your readers something interesting too read, wether it be the 10 most haunted house or the worlds largest spider (these are the kind of things they are looking for) now at the bottom of the post you will want to have a link to a hand warmer page (not a sales page, explained below)

    2. A hand warmer page as I like too call it is simply a page that diverts the interest of the reader into a different mind-frame with essentially gets them interest in what you have to offer. So lets say at the bottom of your post about the world's largest spider you have a link to a post about how somebody made £100,000 in three months (Make sure everything you write about is true, I hate rubbish and i hate hype) now while they are reading through this post you are getting them interested in something completely different to what they originally viewed.

    3. Plant the seed - Once they have read thought this magnificent story lead them to another post about a service you offer (now traditional sales pages won't work!) remember reddit users alike are browsing the internet and their intentions when logging onto their computer was not too look for an ebook that may or may not help them build a business. You need to give them some great information that will get them thinking about your website. At the end of this post you will want a link to the product of service you offer but don't make a big thing of it. Make sure it doesn't look like your normal sales page or sales link because it won't work.

You will be surprised how many conversions you will actually get when you 1st provide the reader with what they want 2nd give them a little push towards what you want them too read 3rd plant the seed which will have them thinking for a while.

I would finish this explanation but i have given away too much already

I have 60 blog posts that reddit would enjoy. Should I keep it to one post per day or what?

No my blog isn't monetized yet. I'm just a blogger at this point.

I did get a number of new subscribers. That was cool.

Yes you can drive mad traffic with reddit if done right. To get a few thousand hit to a page from one post is not at uncommon. Keep up the good work and figure out how to monetize your traffic and you'll be ob your way.

Reddit is a sarcastic and aware bunch. You're technically not supposed to submit your own content and if you do it often, people will become aware and label you a spammer.

It's definitely not uncommon to receive hundreds or thousands of hits from Reddit, but many of your submissions might not result in any more than 10 new visitors to your site. It all depends on the content and the people who come across it.

From what I've learned, you should actually use Reddit and become apart of the community, rather then just submit your own website or blog posts. If you become part of the community, you'll have friends, followers, etc and more respect.

IMHO, giant social bookmarking sites like Digg and Reddit are a bit one sided. Meaning - as long as you have tones of friends / followers, your post will always get digged even the link that you've submitted is somewhat average. It's all about the level of exposure you get from the people following you, and of course A LOT of luck if you happen to be a new user.

From my observation, these elements work well if you want to get great response through social bookmarking sites:-
      • Reasonable amount of friends / followers
      • Infographics (works well 99% of the time) - depending on the quality of your piece as well.
      • The amount of ads in your site - It just won't work no matter how good your article is, if you have tones of ads shouting at the visitors all the time. A few here and there are fine.
