Hi guys.

I have an amazon review site, and am making sales.

I have 8 reviews on the home page... but it's only really the first 2 that are converting... it's almost like people are too lazy to scroll down to the other reviews.. well they are, these to, above the fold get the most traffic.

Does anyone else find this?

Come on Dog we wont copy your niche HONEST LOL

i kinda agree with you as any site I have ever exposed has been targeted so now I just set up example sites for my members to look at but they are never my best niches and are sacrificial

As for your post yes above the fold is the best and why you should have a good call to action above the fold and several contextual text links in the first half of the page.

        Kickin it on Amazon

Yes, majority of surfers will not read your entire page from top to bottom, that is the reason why most ad spaces located at the top of web pages is more expensive than the spaces at the bottom of the page.

So also putting your affiliate links at the top of your reviews without the need for the user to scroll down will give you more clicks.

Might be they aren't interested in other products. If they want products like first 2 then add more products which are in category of your first 2

Do each of the 8 reviews listed on the homepage have links that can take the visitor to another page on your site for a full review? Or is the entire review on the homepage and they click to Amazon from there?

If each review had its own page on your site, each of those pages could be SEO'd. So you'd get more direct traffic to those pages.

Yes, they all lead to their own review pages.

Is there any point seo'ing those pages if they're not converting?

Yeah. Just a piece of advice, if you have budget you can try buying some PPC ads to test if they are converting. You can spend a little just to know if they are converting before you put your efforts in building backlinks so your time will not be wasted. If they dont convert, you can improve the page or just abandon it and focus to those already converting.

Maybe I misread your OP, but how do you know that the review pages for the other products are not converting? I got the impression that people were reading the first two reviews and clicking through, meaning the other six were not even being viewed.

If that's true, then you don't know if the others will convert or not unless you throw some targeted traffic at them.

One way to test is to throw some paid traffic at them (the individual review pages, not the home page).

Another way would be to use a plugin to rotate the top post among all eight products and see if it's still the same products converting or if being in the top two above the fold is difference maker. If position seems to be the key, then getting more traffic to the individual reviews could be well worth your time.

Is your front page always displaying the same posts or new ones as added?
Are the posts all on the same type product?

Not only do I love John's sig line every time I see it but he can get right to the root of an issue like none other.

There's so much you need to look at before you give up on those other reviews:
          • are you only getting sales from those who land on your home page?
          • are your individual reviews all ranking well in search engine results?
          • are the products in stock on Amazon?
          • are the other products getting clicks just not sales and then is there something on the product page in Amazon that might cause those clicks to abandon the product?
          • do you know for sure that people aren't clicking on the links in the other reviews but then buying one of the first two products anyway because they're perhaps the best rated/most popular products for the niche?
Testing the products you show on the home page and the order in which they're displayed could be an easy split test to help you figure out how that order is driving sales or not.

Tracking your traffic by keywords and landing page is another thing you should look at. Those other reviews should be bringing in their own traffic that lands on the review page for that product and then wouldn't be influenced by the order of your reviews on the home page - unless you have some sort of feature box on your site that shows that information on every page?
