When building links to a site, does it matter if you build them to www.domain or just domain without the www?

The reason I ask is I just did some link building to the site, not using www in the url, then I noticed the site is in Google already but the www. version.

no it really does not matter , google will follow the link to your site with or without www.

But will they pass on the link juice?

I don't think it's as cut and dry as it's made out in this reply, but I have no empirical evidence to suggest either way.

With respect, do you have evidence for your assertion, hgy?

I usually use the http and build links like that. However from time to time I use the www and the hTTp;//www to diversify and let google see it as natural link building by users.

interesting, i pointed a few links to a video that was already ranking on page 4, THEN I noticed the site was www. but the links I did were just to the domain with no www so far 5 days and no movement whatsoever in ranking.... I wonder?
