Need help choosing a website name.

I have no idea but most webhost companies really have simple names such as bluehost, hostgator, fatcow,etc.

Just chimp or monkey host or hosting should do it now?

What do you think of HostDroids.com as Android is quite big at the moment?

You're going to name your new business after a trend? I think that's unwise. But that's just my opinion.

Besides, I just can't seem to make the connection between the word Android being big at the moment, and deciding to use the word Droid in your business name. What benefit does it bring?? If anything, 'HostDroids' conjures a COMPLETELY different image than Android - I'm imagining little droids that run round hosting your files.

Finally... I find it surprising that you ask for a 'website name' instead of a 'business name'. Are you serious about hosting? How do you plan to compete with the likes of Dreamhost, Godaddy and the 10 million other hosting companies? Not only that, but asking others to do the EASIEST part of setting up a business should be a warning sign for yourself.

I am not basing my business on a trend, I just in a way like the concept. Also with Hostgator do you imagine gators running around snapping at your files and monsters ripping the servers apart at hostmonster?

As for a business name it will be running aside other businesses I have. As for compeating, that was not my question but if you wish to know I have a website in the IM niche which recruits 20 new paid users daily and around 60 free, so if I do the maths at 1% conversion

100 x 30 = 3000 users monthly @1% conversion = 30 new hosting users monthly and that is at a terrible conversion as I have done a survey on my customers and found that over 30% would be interested in receiving hosting via my company.

What does a customer want from a hosting company?

They need to trust them with their data. They want reliable, continual service. They want ease of use. Those are the three things that first jump to my mind, anyway.

Do monkeys make you think trust? Reliabillity? Convenience?

Pandas more so, as they seem wise and are big and sturdy, perhaps. But there are already a lot of things called 'Panda', would it be memorable?

I liked the BigBearsHosting suggestion. That does sound solid, reliable, in control. Positive things. Plus be nice and easy to create a memorable logo, and hey, it even has some aliteration, can't be bad there, heh.

I would definitely avoid 'fad' names as nothing will date you easier - as all the many 'Millennium' companies are no doubt now realising.

You made your point so clearly here. Reliability and trust are two things to consider when you are about to get the service of any company. You are associated with the name...monkey from the tales are so wise and clever and quite selfish...not a good choice if I were you. The Bigbears is quite good in my opinion.

I'm saying it doesn't conjure thoughts of the Android OS. Not that it would make someone think of droids running around... at all. Hostgator reminds me of, or at least sounds like, the word alligator. Hostdroid reminds me of, or at least sounds like, droids.

I was just surprised that someone who's investing thousands of dollars for a server or two, a location to host it, plus the plethora of other costs involved in running a genuine and reliable hosting company is asking a public forum to name his business.

First of all you must have a lot of expertise to even THINK of starting a hosting company. But if you think you can do it then go for it. I would use a name that means nothing and then you make it mean something like Google or Twitter. Play around with words that sound as if they COULD be English language words. Look at so called nonsense poems like The Owl and the Pussycat to see what I mean.

Sounds catchy? You could have your products be in monkey name like Chimppy for the cheapest up to KingGorilla for the ultimate hosting experience. (I would have liked KingKong but trademark rules could be a problem)
