If you want free. Don't even bother with SEO unless your targeting low competition KWs with virtually no traffic.

Try Facebook, tell all your friends about the site and hopefully people like it.

For a cheap solution try some Fiverr traffic generation gigs. For the most impact I am not sure about this as with these SEO and traffic gigs you usually get what you paid for ($5).

Hopefully your site sites off and earns you some money so that you can look into a serious traffic generation solution as soon as possible.

    Heard about search engine optimization?

Either way, search this forum for information on SEO. Organic traffic from the search engines is not only free, but it's also highly targeted/relevant.

All you gotta do is: stay patient and perseverant.

I would go with giving really good content via Youtube videos.
You can upload one video per day, each video being different
in content but also giving solid content as well.

What you can do is head over to Ezine articles, find some really
good articles and reword them and read the article using a audacity
recording program (it's free just search Google for it)

Keep the videos under two minutes and do the proper keyword optimization
    for you videos.

A little tedious but should bring you some traffic.

    Best Regards,
    Anthony La Tour

I would say try article marketing. It still works. Write some good quality stuff related to your site and post these articles on a directory.

Re-purpose your material ... Create an article, turn it into an e-guide, convert it to a video and record it for a pod-cast. Work once and use for multiple traffic streams. People like to learn in a multitude of ways, so give it to 'em !

It really depends what niche you are in. For more long-term and less fluctuating results SEO would be your best bet, again, this depends on keyword, number of searches, etc. Moreover, social media is great if SEO for whatever reason does not suit your needs in the particular niche you are targeting.

YouTube. It's 40% of my traffic and visitors spend *three times* more time on my site than Google visitors.

Get in front of a microphone, narrate your articles into a webcam or over the top of a powerpoint presentation. explains everything if you've never created a video.

Now, go to Google keywords tool and get a list of keywords to target - don't aim for anything over about 5,000 searches a month to start with. Create related videos and slam your keyword in the title (keep it revelant) body and tags.

Seriously, I've ranked #2 on YouTube in one day doing this with no other work. That's the exception not the rule, but I find YouTube incredibly easy to rank for - that does make it a bit temperamental though.

If you need more help, I provide plenty of advice on my YouTube channel / website.

I agree with Anthony La Tour - keep the vids about 2 minutes* - less work for you, more coverage in the search results!

    * Disclaimer - My recent 20 min videos failed this rule for good reasons!

well if we are talking about the free way you can start creating a fan page for your main website on facebook but do not the mistake many people by putting affiliate links straight away. Provide useful content all the time.

Another way is to be active on forums around your niche and to personalize your signature. do not forget to add google analytics to your main page so you can track from where your traffic is coming so you can tweak and test all the time and see what is working and what's not.

comment also on blogs around your niche and keep yourself active. do not expect to see results immediately. remember this is a process that takes some time.

Twitter is a great way to get traffic to your site; but not if you are spamming your followers. Start with following people in your niche and offer high quality content. Focus on building relationships. The great thing about Twitter is that if you are offering great stuff, people will retweet to their own followers.
