New biz advice, website help???

Lately I've been thinking a lot about which direction to go in IM. I've scanned this forum over and over again and I see plently of interesting areas to get into. I was pretty dead set on what I was going to put my time and effort into until I was day dreaming today at work.

I thought of an idea for a website that I am really excited about getting it started. Problem is that I have no clue on how to build a website and am worried about my idea being stolen if I share it with others. Any suggestions on the steps I need to take to get something like this off the ground? I know that this would be a very profitable venture for me and would appreciate all the instructive ideas.

Step 1. Plan it out properly
Step 2. Source how'd you like your site to be designed
Step 3. Connect or outsource with a designer for pennies (can be done)
    Step 4. Promote!

Theres no need to share your idea to anyone but if you cannot build your own site, outsource it.

However wordpress is very easy to build websites search in google for wordpress information, i'm sure you'll be able to learn quickly how to create your own website.

I wouldn't worry so much about ideas. Everyone has lots of them. And people love their own ideas.

Maybe I am wrong and your idea is unique and can make you millions. In that case, you need to protect it by registering a patent.

Well after watching the movie The Social Network, I'd rather be safe than sorry and keep it under wraps. You could be right and no one really care about it but you never know...

I would put together a plan and outsource the creation on www.Odesk.com I'd be pretty surprised if someone was going to steal an idea like that...I've hired people for every project I've done and they aren't the ones who copy me...it's other IMers that see my success and figure they will enter the same markets and copy my products.

Every day you wait to get started, is one more day that someone can open up a competing site and get to the idea before you!

Either learning the ins and outs of web design yourself or contracting a designer are your only viable options. But as others have mentioned, contracting someone doesn't mean you have to tell them about your idea.

Really appreciate all feedback, I now realize a lot of this is not that hard. I've just been scatterbrained all day thinking about this

Just take your time and stick to one thing first, don't rush on doing multiple things at the same time, you'll only get messed up!

Start on on ething "like planning" and make sure you plan correctly. then move onto the next step/procedure.

    Create your website through Wordpress.

Or if that is too complicated, try creating a free blog and start there.

You can always make money without a website if you can't create one but it is a skill you will need to learn in the long run.

Why not hire someone and have them sign a non-compete and confidentiality contract? I dont think you need it but if you are concerned it might help put your mind at ease.

Might have to do that. At first I had thought possibly about doing this as a joint venture but I'm really not to sure how that works

You may be on to something truly unique, but generally ideas are a dime a dozen. The money is in the execution. So don't get worked up about protecting your idea.
Seriously look at wordpress for your site. With the right plugins, it really can do almost anything.
Also, don't get to hung up on the site. Be more concerned with marketing. You can have a world class site. But if you're not getting visitors, you've got nothing.
