Should I create a separate domain and website for my sales page?

Hello all,

I run a pretty popular website/blog. I am currently in the process of creating an instructional course for saxophone players, but I'm not sure whether my sales page for this product should be a new page on my site, or a separate sales page site on its own domain.

I like the idea of a separate sales page, but my concern is that I would never get any backlinks to a site that's nothing more than a sales page, since there's no useful content to the 99% of people who aren't ready to buy something. I want to make sure that the site doesn't get buried due to a lack of backlinks and SEO juice.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Doron

I cannot think of any reasons which would recommend creating a separate sales page site on its own domain to sell your teaching course. Surely you will do better with a sales page within your main site.

I would definitely do it seperately. Obviously you mostly direct link to a salespage so seo is not a big concern. Just build it and add a link from your blog to the sales page should work fine.

Hmm, two directly opposing points of view...

Would it make sense to purchase a domain with the name of my product so I could use it on AdWords and in other advertising, but then have that URL immediately redirect to the sales page on my site?

I am still concerned that a single link from my main website might not be enough "link juice" to make the sales page prominent in the search results.

    Thanks!

if you want to split them up, use a sub domain of your domain , then have a link on your main domain to your sub domain sales page.

      Hmm, another interesting approach.

So it looks like there's two things to consider:

      * The benefit of creating a brand new sales page with the same URL as my product, which might make it seem a bit more professional

      * The benefit of having the sales page live within my current site and gain the full benefit of my existing SEO standing

After thinking about it again, I think I'm now leaning a bit more towards keeping the sales page on my own site.

Is there something I'm not properly taking into account here?

      Thanks!

I'd keep it on the same site! I don't see how making a new site would be better...you'd be splitting your efforts and then working against yourself when trying to rank. I have plenty of sites with squeeze pages and blogs on the same domain.

Just out of curiosity, how many sites do you run on the same domain? and how does that affect your page rank? Am I right to assume that this can only be a positive thing for your PR?
