how can i know what people are shopping for?

past months i have been using the top searches on shopping.com to get information on what people are buying. the reason for it is when i can't come up with a good keyword i can key in on the site to have a good idea. secondly i would not like to build a site that is not idle, meaning i get what people are buying and build my site around it. This has been a good move on back then but now shopping.com has no such information on their website.

please warriors where do you guys get information on what people are buying.

    Amazon is an all around great place for market research. You can, for example, search for best selling products by category.

    amazon best seller and ebay pulse should be enough.For me google products also works very well.

    I often use Commission Junction for research. Not only do I see what people are buying, but I'll pay attention to which ads are performing the best and add them to my swipe file.

    You can also use this research for writing great subject lines for emails.

    For example, if you notice a text ad is performing quite well for a vendor. You can alter it slightly for your own use and use it as the subject for an email blast.

    Of course, you can do the same thing with banners. I'm not a great graphic designer but you'll often find that some of the best performing banners are actually quite simple to recreate with your offer.
