Do you check your freebies, products for nasties?

I have downloaded loads of freebies, plr and software this year which has
had a fair number of corrupted zipfiles and/or infection warnings.

I wonder if this is related to the outsourcing craze ... or possibly to the
same old stuff being carelessly redistributed.

Its not a great advert for the source of the downloads .... and its not an
issue with my ISP or computers.

Maybe an idea to check stuff before uploading to server

Either you or Tommy taught me that about the first couple weeks I was in here, Mike - about the time I got a virus and you told me to get Avast. I've never forgotten and I've caught a LOT of crap trying to get in.

If I never said thanks for that advice, I'm saying it now.

      Hiya Sal,

      long time no chat.

Hope things are going OK for you.

With all the current chaos going on in the world .... and my part of it .... I think
I will just stay in my bunker and wait 'till the stars start to go out one by one .

Other than using a virus and malware detection, I don't do anything special with free downloads.

I agree, my computer came with built-in anti viral software that is automatically updated every so often. This software scans the download before completion. Some threats have been blocked by this software and I am so greatful for it.

I have antivirus software that is regularly updated. It's a terrible resource hog, but I think that's a small price to pay to keep my computer safe.

For PDFs and other documents I generally leave the scanning up to my antivirus. However, with executable files I always run a manual scan before running them. This has kept me safe so far.

Unfortunately, friends and family are not always so careful and I'm sometimes called upon to remove malware from their machines. Some viruses can be tricky to remove. Prevention is definitely better than cure!
