What's the main issue that you're having with writing articles? Are you wanting to increase your typing speed or having issues with coming up with new ideas for articles?

Make $100. Then find a good writer who can write good articles for $10.00 a pop. Charge your clients $12-$15 per article.

You can also do the same thing with textbroker.com

The other thing to do is to speak your article into dragonnaturally speaking, into a digital voice recorder or audacity and send the mp3 player to an outsourcer to transcribe for a buck or two an hour. Then re-arrange the content.

    Hope this helps.

If you want to outsource the articles you're assigned, you can do that but don't necessarily need $100 upfront. You just make sure that you're getting paid more that you're paying out to the other freelancer. After awhile you could have a full-blown business running that writes articles for people with multiple freelancers working for you.

Agreed, but some writers want to be paid first or at least half. I think $100 is enough to start a very nice freelance article writing biz. Then you will never have to write another godforsaken article again!

This is the ONLY way to grow your business.

Here are some speed writing tips:

      1) First time through, don't worry about spelling, grammar, etc. Just write -- focused and fast.

      2) List an opening, a closing, and at least 3 main points in the middle (like a bullet list or numbered list).

      3) Go back and fill out the body. Each point could be 100 words, for instance, and the opening is 100 and the closing is 100 words. So you have:

      100 = opening
      300 = 3 points
      100 = closing
      ____
      500 words

Then go back and edit, correcting and improving selling and grammar correct, making the voice the same throughout and the content flow.

      Done.

Time yourself, too, and cut out distractions.

Another thing is when writer's block hits you. It's like "ohh boy, I'm doomed"

Being able to write faster takes a lot of practice. I'm doing some weird writing exercise lately.

First, I turn off my monitor and type in any ideas that pops in my mind. I do this for 30 minutes, and after that I'll start re-arranging my ideas adding some pronouns, adjectives, and will start to add more information regarding it.

This improved my efficiency in writing. Though I'm not sure if it works to others.
I can now write a 500 word article for 45 minutes compared to an article per hour before.

This strategy has been pretty effective for me as well. One of the biggest problems I had before was how to start writing the article. Back then, I wanted the words to appear on the screen perfectly. If the first few sentences were not good enough, I'd delete the whole thing and start all over.

Now I just type whatever comes to mind just so I could get all my ideas on the screen. When doing research, try summarizing everything you've read in your own words and type it up as well. After that, it's all just a matter of rearranging all the words to make it all flow. And then you add some more needed information as mentioned by John. Then go over the finished article to find any mistakes before rewriting it over and over until it's just perfect.

That should help a lot thank you for that! Now what is the average pay for a 500 word article?

If speed is your first problem, this will be your second.

First, to answer your question, a large portion of people have sold their souls to write for others.

As a result, you'll see a very large amount of writers (and "writers") cutting their own throats @ .01 a word - $5 an article.

The REAL question, is how can you position yourself as a VALUE to someone's business (as opposed to just another cheap "commodity")?

What do you bring to the table that others don't?

      What makes you unique?

When you make the decision to put yourself in the dime-a-dozen group, you'll only end up making pennies.

      Just some food for thought.

      -Mike

PS - Tip: Proof your work, for best results. I'm not trying to be an ass. Just sayin' because, well, it needs to be.

You get good at writing the same way you get good at everything else.

In my opinion, practice and experience are the two things that will allow you to become a better/faster writer. The more articles you write, the more natural it will feel to you.

Also, do all of your research upfront. Work on articles in groups of 2-3 based on the same topic. Search Google for reputable sources, read as much as you need to create your own unique article, make notes if necessary, and then close everything out.

Open your word processor and begin typing. This method fuels you with plenty of information to write the articles without supporting copying other's ideas.

Another tip worth mentioning is to loosely follow article templates.

    For example,

    X Tips to...
(Intro, One body paragraph per tip, conclusion)

    How to...
    (Intro, steps, conclusion)

    FAQ on...
(Intro, question and answer style body, conclusion)

    Hope this helps!

Start looking into getting faster at researching and also at typing. These are your main two skills and the more you do both of them the better you will get. Also, NEVER NEVER NEVER skimp on quality just to be faster because it will bit you big later on.

I'm sure others before me have mentioned these things.

If you want to improve the speed of your writing (and hopefully keep the same quality in tact) you need to break the process of article writing into steps and see which step you need to improve on.

Most of the time, I find that people have trouble finding relevant information and sources to use to develop a professional article. It is the time it takes you to start writing the article that is killer for most.

I have a VA that writes articles for me and since I started giving him detailed guidelines/templates for certain types of articles he has started cranking out articles (that are of higher quality mind you) pretty fast.

If you write for similar niches often I'd suggest creating an outline containing the types of questions your articles typically answer and common points you touch on in each article.

For example, with one of my product based article templates my outline has stuff like:

    1. In two sentences give a brief over view of the product
    2. In one sentence describe an ideal situation for using the product
    3....(can't give too much away!)

    Hope that helps,
    Salah
