IDK if you need to start over. Might be better to take some time and look at each project. Why did it fail? Could you fix it? Better copy? etc. You have 5 years of failures and failure can be as important as success if you use it to learn.

Great post Bojacked.

Don't go overboard reading this forum. It can make you go insane with the tons of quality content available. From the beginning, you should acknowledge the importance of taking action as opposed to reading up on tons of content that tell you to take action.

Think of the online businesses just like you would when you look at regular businesses in your city streets. In all honesty, there is no magical method that will make you thousands of dollars every day or every hour online.

I say, take a business model that others have obviously been successful with online and imitate it. Copy it and improve it. Offer it up in a better way than the current competitors. And I'm not talking about buying some program from a guru that will teach you this "method" of making fast cash. I'm talking about establishing a real business online and learning what is necessary to make it successful.

Don't spread yourself too thin. Focus on one thing and progress. Don't jump around to a lot of different things. You won't get anything done that way.

I am speaking from my personal experience. Just my 2 cents

Hi there Bojacked....Welcome to the Warrior Forum. I hope you'll stick around this time around.

You really are only a Failed Internet Marketer if you actually give up....so I`m glad to read that you are ready to forge a new path.

To be honest, I could have written a longer post than you have with all the things I`ve tried, invested money and time in, and I consider it the longest learning curve ever, but I`m still here because I want to be.

Some learn the lessons quicker than others, and it was actually not until I came to the Warrior Forum that I found my way once and for all. The best thing I`ve learned.....quite simply....was TAKE ACTION! Once I started to unsubscribe and stick with one plan, did I finally see some success. That doesn`t mean I`m not interested in Amazon reviews, product creation, etc., I just manage my time more effectively.

Now that you are back, you mentioned speed reading all the information here. Don`t overwhelm yourself and find yourself with information overload.

I suggest you start with something you are passionate about....REALLY passionate about so you will stick with it....are decide on the concept and stick with it long enough to see some results.

Lastly. Your WHY must be pretty strong for you to still be here and not given up yet...that`s a good sign....just be true to yourself and the magic will follow.

Terri, get out of my head. Thought Taker!

I just want to reinforce what Terri was saying. I've had a few stumbling points while figuring out the IM world too. I'm coming from a web development background, so while there is some crossover, I feel lost a lot of time. Speed reading is great, but I would choose one topic that you're interested in, or have had some success in, and focus on learning about that particular topic.

My issue is getting half way through one project, seeing the shinny new 'Make $$$ now!' product and coming up with a new idea to focus on. I have so many open ended projects... and none of them are making any money since they're not finished. If I had devoted myself to just 1 of those projects, it would be done, etc.

I didn't come all this way without minor successes. I had a few nice drop shipping sales from ebay drop shipping products that were discounted at major warehouse clubs (while they are in stock). I've setup blogs and focused on creating content with relevant adsense ads (yay 3$). Setup amazon stores for targeted niches. I've tried clickbank affiliate sales and sold a few products (never enough for a payout though). I've created review sites with marginal successes here and there. I bought "optimized turnkey businesses" on ebay. I recently bought some domains hoping to land a winner (look another golden arrow!).

I've done things to try and market my sites I didn't think were right. I'm not proud of it, but I did. The guru even sold me the system so I could make XXXXX$ a minute just like he did! I now realize that even a small win with these tactics isn't nearly worth it in the long run. I realize that I was wrong.

I marketed things I had no interest in.

I ignored the rules.

I thought I knew.

I was marketing for ME not YOU.

And I failed.

I'm coming to you as a failed internet marketer. One who is determined to figure it out. I know it's my fault, and I realize that the success in every failure is learning from your mistakes. So I'm here to learn. I'm really going to do it the right way this time and figure it out.

So for now, before I market more I'm learning to speed read. So I can keep up with this forum and stay ahead of the curve. I'm learning about how to create quality content. I'm familiarizing myself with software and basic coding.

I'm starting over, but it's going to be different this time. Thank you.

Just always set your goals and pursue them whatever it takes. Keep moving forward.

Making a decent income on the internet depends on a number of factors, like commitment, persistency, time management, focus etc. Most of us are aware that there are tons of individuals making good money doing IM but 95% fails miserably due to many reasons like:

- Not following a good system
- Lack of commitment
- Thinking that anybody can make money online easily without much work
- Running from one program to another
- Without proper planning and time management

Bottom line is, if you follow a proven system then success will be on your way.

I struggled for more than 5 long years before I started making at least some decent amount of money online. So do not give up yet.

At the same time, learn from your mistakes as there is no point in repeating the same old mistakes or doing things the same way you did before. Find out why you failed, what mistakes you made, how are others doing things differently. Try to copy the methods and strategies of those who are enjoying more success than you.

You've gotten some really good advice already that I won't repeat.

Many of us have been down this same path and have felt the sting of failure. You already have what it takes to be an online success by the mere fact that you're still here ready to learn and grow.

Now, all you need to do is figure out what it is that you REALLY like doing out of all of those things you've tried before. What activity did you feel came naturally? If none, then your search continues for that one THING that connects with you and your particular talents and interests.

LASER FOCUS once you find something.

Since you were once involved in selling retail clothing, you may enjoy information product creation and sales.

The operative words in your post are: "I was marketing for ME not YOU."

YES... you've nailed it 100 per cent.

All marketing is about the audience (the market.)

Devote yourself to understanding a market, and that market will buy from you, because you'll know exactly what they're hungry for.

Here are the steps:

* Choose a market (I like magazines.com for finding and understanding markets quickly);

* Learn more about that market by researching forums. If there's no forum related to specific market, find another market -- that market doesn't buy online;

* What's the buzz in that market? What do they care about? What are their aspirations?

* Get into the mindset of the market -- this goes beyond understanding. Become one of them -- join the tribe, so to speak;

* What's the market buying now? Why?

* Finally -- what could YOU sell to this market?

Good luck with it. And do remember -- FAIL your way to success. It's the only way to success. Everyone fails -- it's painful, but necessary.

OK... however, don't bother learning without SELLING. Find a market, immerse yourself in it, and SELL THEM SOMETHING.

Main thing I took from that post was that you didn't put out what the customer wanted. You should focus on content, content, content. The money will come. Your affiliates should be throughout your site for the readers-IF THEY WANT IT. If you make it obvious on your site that you are there to make money, you will not succeed. The boutique idea sounded great. Women love to shop online and you had your wife to give it the woman's touch. Maybe you should re-evaluate that idea?

You need to find something that actually works (you said eBay selling worked for you), then just STICK to it and try to make it better and better

I suffered for years going through project after project learning different ways to market until one day it just hit me. I released a project that completely took off and life has been good to me ever since then. The WORST thing I could have done was given up. You can start over, but don't forget what you've learned.

The one thing that 99% of successful people have in common is that they failed first. But where others gave up, they kept their self-belief, picked themselves up and started again. As long as you keep on trying, you are NOT a failure - so don't beat yourself up.

Learn from your previous mistakes, see what worked and what didn't, and move forward. Pick a good IM model that suits your skills, put it into action, and most of all see it through to the end. Do that and you can join the countless people on this forum who are making a good living from IM.

Interesting story, sound a bit like the path that i am trying desperitely not to go down. I have problems with not being able to focus on one neche also, for a bit i have been jumping around and chasing the star light.

Its not starting over because because you have already start, you have already gain valuable info about this game that's why you are in the frame of mind that you are in now.

Hope you put ion the work. You know what to do. Implement ideas that you get from here alongside you own and it will be hard to fail.

This is a very good site. i know what to do, but my problem have always been on acting upon my knowledge.

For e.g. I have not gotten a sale in a month. I have not posted here in 2 weeks. I started 3 threads yesterday and replied on a couple which should equal to about 10 posts in all.

I woke up this morning and got a sale. Thats not co-incidents. just by being active here can make you money online you need noting else to make a fair amount of money.

Great post.

Well done for acknowledging what you were doing wasn't working, sometimes that can be the hardest thing.

Well done for taking some action as well, lots of people dont even get that far.
If I was you I would look to follow some proven form of online business such as affilliate marketing, but the real key will be in learning to market online properly, look at a lot of successful marketers and they will all have a list of email subscribers whom they can promote to whenever they wish.

Get the right foundations in place and you will be halfway their.

One piece of advice I had given to me though that I think will help you with whatever path you chose is to celebrate every little success along the way no matter how small.

It may be that you generated one opt in lead or a few adsense dollars whatever but it allows you to stay positive and will provide you with momentum. I know I was guilty of this when starting out thinking that what I was doing wasnt working because I wasn't making thousands a week, when really I was just at the start of the journey.

Remember every successful guru started where you are at now, the begginning.

Marketing to serve a market, rather than simply for the money, is a key insight that will take you a long way.

Figure out how to be a genuine hero to the people who take minutes out of their lives to read and watch your stuff.

Do that, and you'll make more than enough money.

Building an online business is tough work in the beginning. You work, work, and work some more with little or no earnings. Traffic is low and you don't think you're making any headway.

Then, slowly, but surely, traffic trickles in. You can't stop there ... even if you get no sales. Sales materialize with more traffic and improving your offer.

This business is truly like pushing a rock up a long, steep mountain. But, once you get the proverbial rock over the other side, things start happening. Traffic increases faster and faster. Sales increase monthly. Then you ride the momentum - reinvesting in what's working.

Whatever niche or model you go with next, whether returning to any of your past projects or starting over, focus like a laser on the fundamentals - traffic and conversion rate. It may take 1 to 2 years, but I can tell you it's worth it.

Before you take the plunge again, ask yourself if you like doing it. I love this stuff. I wake up excited to write and promote. But, if you find every element of it a drag, reconsider this type of business. That said, if you there are a few elements you like, focus on those as much as possible and work to outsourcing the activities you don't like.

When I started out I thought a few Squidoo lenses would result in a windfall. I then thought a 5 page website would do it. I learned I had to build up a business offering something people wanted. Then I had to get that info in front of people. I kept stumbling along until traffic and sales materialized.

Success in the IM world isn't an easy nut to crack. From what I've noticed, many successful IMers around here were able to turn negatives into positives ... and eventually build themselves an effective nutcracker.

If drop shipping has worked for you. Go for it again. It's all about finding a plan that works for YOU and which you can stick to. You can get software to automate the middleman process which then you can create a new drop shipping company or optimize the one you have.

My biggest mistake when starting out was also jumping from one shiny method to the next. I"ve found out that each time you jump from one thing to the next you are starting all over with a new business - a business that I haven't even built yet.

A real business takes time, it takes real people, real partnerships and so forth. I've learned to stick with the bare minimum and make it work. It's not easy but there is a certain threshold that I need to cross before I see the light. I don't think it's different for most out there.

  I think you need to just chill, relax. Take a deep breathe and go on a holiday. You know, forget about it all for a bit. It will do wonders for you. Trust me. It bizarre how the brain and the mind work, as soon as you can take yourself out of a situation and relax, jut let everything flow, you will see your journey in a new perspective.

Hi,

I am a beginner in the Internet Marketing, Started one month back. You mentioned you are starting over. I believe you got the most important thing that you ought to have i.e. Experience!! Period. You have what lesser mortals like me don't have. Most of the general crowd would quit but you still say "you are starting over".

You have the attitude and you have the experience. My simple rule... Targeted Action and you ll succeed.

Totally agree!

I hit my head against a brick wall, online for more than 4 years before it started working, or making sense.

Then l concentrated my efforts on the only area that really worked, which was product creation.

I am currently beefing up my product, and will run it as a WSO eventually.

I am hoping to make a few thousand from this, because l got involved with some professionals on the WF, (bought their product) that usually make 5 to $10,000 profit a month.

If you know what you are doing serious money can be made online.

But this product and the bonuses has taken me 2 months of hard work to research and put together, and falling back on the last 4 years of failure or experience, has allowed me to do most of the work myself, or cheaply outsource it.

So...hopefully you are beginning to see, that failure, just allows you to quickly develop a profitable campaign, without failing in some way, because you didn't have the knowledge, etc.

Or put it another way if a newbie, tried to develop a successful product and then go on to make it very successful, they would be guaranteed to fail. One reason is, they failed to do background research first, which can make a big difference, and just created a product, they liked.

Or they got a free PLR product, with crappy graphics, and everyone else is selling or giving away. Even if the product is good and has demand, with crappy or blurry graphics, it is virtually guaranteed to fail.

And you can see, a few years of failure is a great resource you can tap into once you have grabbed into something that has worked in some way, put your blinkers on, and stay with it until it coughs up.

I expect my next product launch, to launch my online career, and can thank learning and years of failure and hard work for that.

Keep going no matter what or who, and even if there is no clear path, a door should open up to you eventually.

I think you need a vacation to think things over, analyze your mistakes and figure out why you failed. Then gather all those thoughts and make sure you don't do the same mistakes again. In short, learn from them and plan your next move. Be more prepared. With all those experiences you had for several years - I'm sure success will not be that far from you. Goodluck!!!!!

HI,

I think learning to speed read to be able to take in more info is a big mistake and the wrong focus for you to put your energy into.

You have been studying methods for over 5 years wasn't it? If you have been studying IM for that length of time then you probably already know more techniques than most of the people on this forum making a great living online.

More techniques is not the solution to your problem!!!

What you really need to do is go back to the sites you made in the past and determine why they didn't work. If there is any hope at all for them you should try and breath life into them.
