You can save to .pdf format directly from MS word with "Microsoft Save as PDF" addon for MS word.

I don't know of a solution using Open Office but I know of a few product creators who sold a bunch of PDF ebooks that were done with Open Office and it caused them some major headaches. They ended up not using OO for the PDF conversion. I just use MS Word and the built in PDF conversion.

I've been making ebooks now since 2001 or so....and OpenOffice, by far, makes the PDFizing 'way easier than Word.

I now do everything in Open Office, much less headaches.

You can also ask your question at the Open Office Writer forums too:

    Hope that helps!

Just Google for Word to pdf converter. There are several online sites that work just fine. That's what I used to do, before I got Office 2007 and the MS pdf converter.

The problem probably is that OO moves things around before you convert to a pdf. If you take time to go through the document and make sure everything is still formatted before you convert to pdf, you'll probably be ok.

Download this simple and easy to use tool and the trial version would solve your problem of losing formatting after conversion from word to pdf.

woohoo! Thanks for the heads up on the Microsoft 2007 PDF converter. If it works well, I won't have to pay Adobe to convert.

I ve never paid a single penny to adobe, and not to forget that I deal with PDF files in abundance and a very large number of PDF files are needed to be converted each day of my life, but I haven't paid a penny to Adobe. The reason is ClassicPDF editor. Its a simple alternative of Adobe acrobat, it helps me to create, convert and edit almost any type of file. It has the ability to do almost any kind of changes to the PDF file. So if you are also looking for some reliable PDF software I would recommend you to go for the ClassicPDF editor.
