Hello fellow Warriors,

I've learned a lot from you all, so this is my chance to contribute. I wanted to start a topic on the importance of "people skills."

Sometimes, hiding behind the monitor, people can forget that on the other end of the wire - maybe in a nearby state, maybe in another country - sits another human being. With all the blackhat methods out there, one must wonder: do we care about people skills on the internet?

I think that people skills are essential for success online. They are the principal asset of any company or organization - and you, the Internet Marketer included. Nothing moves until your people can make it move. Studies and research reveals that an average executive spends three-fourths of his working time dealing with people. The largest single cost in most business is people. Reality tells us that an effective leader should give a significant attention to his people. All plans get carried out, or fail to be carried out, by people.

According to Maxwell in his best-selling book, The 21 Irrefutable Laws of LeadershipThe 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership (no affiliation), the number one motivational principle in the world is: People do what people see. The speed of the follower reflects the speed of the leader. If the leader is smart, the followers are smart. (And let's admit it: we're all sitting here on the WarriorForum because we want to lead people into parting ways with their money, to us )

It all depends on how you influence the people behind you. Leadership is not just about leading; it's more of showing the right example and using the right approach.

People skill is the ability to draw people and develop them. You take it by influence. Undertaking this job takes a lot of persistence and patience. It requires time, effort, and resources. You need an understanding that goes beyond words. It's keeping an open heart and mind to what they think, feel, and act as they do. If you understand what motivates them, you have at your command the most powerful tool for dealing with them.
Leadership is getting people to work for you when they are not obliged. How do you do that? This will happen only when you build relationships.

People are not concern how much you know until they know how much you are. Leadership begins with the heart, not the head. It grows with a meaningful relationship, not more regulation. You shape their attitude, form their values and eventually empower them. You do this by constantly showing them every good step in order to progress. Abraham Lincoln said, "If you would win a man to your cause, first convince him that you are his true friend. Next, probe to discover what he wants to accomplish".

It is also the leader's mission to discover the hidden skills of his team. He doesn't fail to inspire every team member to unleash their potentials and use them to fulfill their desires. This is what we call mentoring. I did some research, and according to Eric Parsloe from Oxford School of Coaching and Mentoring, it is done to support and encourage people to manage their own learning that they may maximize their potentials, develop their skills, improve their performance and become the person they want to be. It is a developmental partnership that creates one-of-kind opportunity for collaboration, goal setting and problem solving. In this strategy, the leader can easily identify what are the strengths and weaknesses of each member. And by identifying those, an individual is enlightened to what he needs to develop.

The idea of influence as a way to approach change is more than imitation. It is more of impartation; you can't give what you don't have. It possesses a genuine love for people. A leader loves people more than procedures. If he finds difficult people, he deals with them wisely. He is a role model. They won't know how to improve their skills effectively, unless they see the right pattern.

In conclusion, if there's one thing I wish you could take away from my post, it would be this: A great leader not only says what should be done, he shows it!

Best Regards,
vip-ip ...

As I have taken notice of in a previous post:

Just as a blind man will rely on his other senses to make up for his lack of sight so do many people, behind their computer monitors, rely on other factors to make up for the lack of face-to-face contact. Often such people rely on these factors without being consciously aware of it.

I think that building relationships/networking is extremely important in IM.

In fact, it might be more important in IM if you really want to succeed fast.

Think about it- with good people skills, a person new to the game can do a Joint Venture within their first month, build a list, and start making passive income.

Someone who would rather try to do it all themself and never reach out and build relationships can take months or even years to get to that point.

Perhaps, the difficulty for people to practice social skills lies in the fact that it represents a change, and they don't know how to approach it? ...

The ultimate test of leadership is creating positive change. We all know that change is a constant thing. Accepting it is often hard and painful. Leaders resist it as much as followers do. The result, unchanged leaders equals unchanged organizations.

To understand the anatomy of change, let’s enumerate some of the reasons why people refuse to accept it. Sometimes when people feel they don’t own the proposition, they usually resist it, even when it is their best interest. They just don’t like the idea of being manipulated or compelled. Second, change creates fear of the unknown. It’s like navigating the uncharted seas, and this causes our insecurities to surface. Therefore, many people are more contented with the old problems than with new solutions. Third, they are afraid to fail. They resist change because they have fear to commit one. Fourth, it may mean personal loss. Whenever change is looming, everybody’s asking on their heads, “How will this affect me?” Fifth, tradition resists change. People would choose to stay or cling to their customs rather than adapt the new one. These are some of the common reasons why people oppose change.
What should a good leader do to implement change? What are the best ways on how to encourage others to be changed?

According to studies, people do not basically resist change; they resist “being changed”. The key to a genuine change is “changed people”. Unless people are changed, nothing will happen. As a leader, you need to develop a strategy that will effect positive change for your organization.

The leader must develop trust with his people. Isn’t it wonderful to hear that the people and the leader both have the trust with each other? If this is the reality, the people will be more willing to accept the leader’s proposed changes. Trust is the emotional glue that binds followers and leaders together.

This is a huge part of it imo, it's a huge change from seo/ppc and even email marketing to social media people skills marketing.

The best way to become a millionaire? The question itself is hypothetical. Even if you won't tell me, majority in the world today has only one thing in mind - to be rich, to be a millionaire. It's a popular dream that will surely top the surveys and statistics. Nobody on this planet desires to remain in poverty. We all want change and we want it badly. The challenge becomes, when do you lead and when should you follow?
