Cancer, IM and My Ego (Plea for Help)

I have never posted on here before because I didn't feel I had anything of value to contribute. I've wanted to ask for help from the people in this forum on a number of occassions, but I always felt like I could figure things out on my own and didn't want to be one of "those people" begging for help.

A couple of weeks ago I just found out my mother has cancer and now I am scared as hell about what will happen and her ordeal has forced my hand to ask for help. It is no longer about my ego anymore and not wanting to seek out help; now I just want to make a little extra money to help with my bills so I can free up time to be there for her.

In a nutshell, I am asking for help because I have a site I have been working on for some time now, that I feel can make $20-30 a day if I knew what the hell I was doing to get taffic there. I know that doesn't seem like a lot of money to most people, but for me it means less hours at work and enough to help with some of my bills.

I'm hoping this will give me a little more time so I can help my mom (take her to apts, make meals, be there to comfort her, etc) - which is why I need to figure this out once and for all and I am basically begging for help.

Here is some background on my site:

It is in a niche I know very well and is a little over 2 years old. I have written all of the articles myself (around 500 pages of content) and I even created a free ebook that I know can help save lives (safety related). The PR of my site is currently only a 2. I believe I get maybe 5-10 visitors a day if I am lucky. It is currently monetized with Adsense.

I am really struggling with SEO. I took a course on how to pick out Kws and write articles around them. I felt like I did a good job of picking out KWs that people were searching on and that you could write really in depth articles on.

I started to try building backlinks in February and I did the whole article marketing thing for several months. I joined SYA and wrote dozens of articles and linked them to my inner pages, but it didn't seem to really help.

Awhile back I came across the article syndication thread "A question for Alexa Smith and MYOB"

So I decided to start contacting blog writers in my niche... I contacted around 30 people so far and had two of them publish my articles.

I am linking directly to my front page to try and build up the PR.

The true article syndication seems like it is a good idea, but I am so afraid of wasting my time and it not working.

I only have about 2 hrs a day I can spend promoting this site - can someone please give me their advice on if I am on the right track or what else I should be doing?

I promise I'll pay it forward and I don't think anyone understands how much this would mean to me at this time.

You see a lot of these posts on WF, and you have no idea if they're real or people go that low to get the information given to them instead of actually going out and finding the information yourself and testing things to see if what people say holds up to be true.

Regardless, when I first started out I asked tons of questions on this forum, some people made fun of me and some actually helped.

I knew what it was like to be given that little extra push and to rely on someone to answer a question when I needed help.

Send me a PM and I'll hopefully be able to answer most of your questions.

    Hi Jason,

Without knowing the site or keywords its kind of hard to give any specific advice. One thing I would tell you to look into first for any niche though would be the competition for the keywords you are hoping to rank for.

Type the keywords in Google that you want to rank for and check out the people on the top two pages. How many backlinks do they have? Do they have the keyword in their title and their description?

Assuming your on page seo is good, you'll just need to out link them. Track their back links and see if you can get the same ones. Also, expand your back linking program to include videos, social book marks, and web 2.0 properties. The search engines like to see a diverse link profile rather than one that only consists of backlinks from article sites.

Also, another way to get quick traffic is to find a keyword with much less competition that you can link to your page. For instance, if you have a page focused on digital cameras, you might find that while you can't rank for digital cameras very quickly, you might be able to rank for the keywords "best digital cameras" without too much trouble. This will get you some traffic quickly and will help you on your way towards ranking for "digital cameras" because you will still be back linking with your keyword in the link.

    HTH,

    -Chris

I lost my mother last month to cancer so my heart goes out to you and your family. May your mother have a speedy recovery.

I am going to be honest. The reason why the majority of IM training guides promise little work with lots of reward is because this is what people want, and many marketers... rather than go against the grain... give people what they want.

Anyone I know who has made a successful income at IM has put in a lot of hours to get there.

At first, the majority of people are working long days for less than minimum wage (there will always be best case scenarios... which you should hope for... but you must plan for things not immediately taking off).

It's true, once the hard work of learning and getting things setup has been done, a nice profit can be made with only a little input, but it is a lot of hard work getting there.

I've been doing this for 10 years and I still work long days still to keep the money coming in and still have my ups and downs.

If getting a supporting income is urgent then providing a service may be a much wiser move and give you a guaranteed return on your efforts.

If you want my honest opinion on your site and what to do to market it, or just some general advice, then hit me an email (I PM'd you my address)... but be warned... my advice will be my honest opinion, which may not be what you want to hear.

Sorry to hear about your situation. I hoping for the best for your mother. The quickest way to make some cash in my opinion would be to offer some kind of service to warriors . Start off by doing it for free and build up your reputation from their. It is difficult to assess your situation without specific keywords, search volumes and details. IM is a lot of hard work and isn't the "4 hour work week" that a lot of people try to make you believe.

I have no idea about his ebook or anything, but we have been told throughout this process that some people have been able to change only their diet and their cancer went into remission - but cancer is unique to each person so who knows.

We have been told about so many things it is overwhelming... from magnet therapy to blood washing and on and on.

I have an ebook on how to cure cancer with the right diet valued at $30 if you are interested.
We have a ton of literature we are reading, and diet seems to be a huge thing she will need to control (which is why I want to help prepare her meals). She has bloating in her stomache so it is hard for her to eat too much at a time.. the catch 22 is we read she needs to eat a lot to help fight off the cancer cells - so frustrating.

She started chemo Monday, but her doctor said it is too much too soon to set her up with a nutritionist. I don't get it, but I am not a doctor.

i will say a prayer for your mom and your situation for good things to come about, and peace. the one thing i'd say about above is that the deli guy at my local home town grocer said his cancer went into remission and all he did was switch to an all natural, mostly veggie diet. lots of fruits and grains and vegetables and very little red meat he said, as well as heavy vitamens. i would say for certain that's not a cure all for everyone with cancer, but just a thought on what i heard.

i wish you and yours the best.

That's what Steve Jobs did for 9 months before being 'forced' to go a more 'traditional' route. It may have cost him several years of life... one never can be sure. It is a hard call to advise someone in that situation when not just their healthcare provider, but not even a doctor! In spite of that, I believe most doctors, in most cases, (every case is different), when consulted about complementary therapies that can be used in conjugation with traditional therapies, usually will give a safe direction in which to proceed. So, yeah, be sure to check with her doctors about the safety of inexpensive therapies that be also used.

For example, my mother drank green tea before eating after chemo, it soothed her stomach and allowed her to keep down her food. She was diagnosed with cancer and given 6 months... she lived 7 more years. She had massage, support groups, took shark oil and blue/green algae, etc, etc. No way to know if those had a large effect or she was just a stoic, (stubborn), New England lady who refused to roll over. In any case, do some research and CHECK WITH DOC before implementing anything.

My prayers with her & you, if your journey is anything like mine, you are in for a roller coaster. Good luck,

      Mark

I am so sorry you are going through this situation with your mother. I lost my grandfather to cancer 5 years ago, and it was very difficult.

As far as your site, it sounds like you could use more effective traffic techniques. Submit your articles to iSnare or EzineArticles to help with syndication. If they are really good and informational, they will be picked up. Keep track of other sites publishing your articles, and contact them about giving them priority on future content. They may be willing to publish more of your articles on their site if you promise to send the content to them (after it has been indexed on your site) before submitting it to directories.

Also, learn as much as you can about press releases. These are similar to articles, but they need to be very news-worthy to gain a great deal of traffic. Submit the releases you create to as many PR sites as you can find. Many accept free submissions, and I am sure there is a list on this forum somewhere.

To learn more about article marketing, read the recent topic on the subject by Benjamin Ehinger: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...g-success.html

With the backlinking, spread out the links to other pages within the site so that it doesn't appear spammy. Also, be sure to vary the anchor text a bit to gain more exposure for a variety of keywords and to make it look more natural.
