Is anyone else getting spammed with WSO Alerts?

WSO of the Day [alerts@wsor.us]

is the subject on just one of the numerous emails that I keep receiving lately. (158 since yesterday) with varying headings, all related to WSO alerts -

The subject lines are:

[WSO Alerts] [keyword Clickbank]
" [keyword offline]
" [keyword mobile]
" [keyword YouTube]
and many more keywords

[WSO of the Day]

[WSO] [author Calvin Woon] (and other authors)

I've tried to follow up, but the web address in the email ebizac1.com is of a different name, but it gives me a Report Spam option. That form did not work, took me to ebizac1 and this email to report: 'webmaster@netprosoft.com'

I know they are spam because they're going to an email that I never give out. It's the one my host provided, but I don't use.

Whatever happened to the Spam Act - that people will suffer the consequences if they spam people? They all say it, but I've yet to find info on what you're supposed to do if someone IS defying the Spam Act.

As you know, most spam goes nowhere, so you can't report them, block them or anything else. Some you can't even put on your Outlook spam list because the messages are being sent from so many different sources.

Except in this case, they all seem to come from this ebizac1.com server.

Also, what can you do about marketers who put you on hundreds of lists? I'm getting mail from a couple of people where I've unsubscribed from multiple times, yet the mail keeps getting through.

Why would any reputable marketer do that? Put you on hundreds of lists so it's impossible to unsubscribe? You always pop up on another of their lists.

"They" ought to make it easier to stop this trash - whoever 'they' are.

I know we can try to contact their hosts and whatnot, but most of the time you can't. It's spam, after all. Besides, I've better things to do than locate the source of these hundreds of junk emails and complain.

Any other ideas? What do you do when you get spammed like this (either case mentioned above)?

Sylvia

Their upstream is cox.net, so I'd try abuse@cox.net.

I'd point out that the spam is coming from a customer (or a customer of a customer) of Cox.net. The host domain is owned by the folks at powerpromoter.net, which kicks you right over to netprosoft.com, also owned by the same folks. Reporting spam to the source (assuming that's who's actually sending it) is pretty pointless.

The domain registration claims a Florida address, but the servers are located in the Phoenix area.

    IP: 70.182.52.86

I have some suspicions about who this is. If I were certain, I'd fire up the orbital nuclear death ray platforms and fry his ... posterior portions.

Before you do any reporting, make sure you didn't get on their lists legitimately. As in, ordered from them or something. If you're sure, make a list of the links and report them to Mike Lantz, over at Warrior Plus.

      Thanks, Paul

As I said, no way I subscribed because it's an email I never use that my host gave me about 10 years ago. The last time I gave it out must have been about 6+ years ago, long before I even heard of WSOs.

For the sake of argument, let's say it is legit. Would anyone in their right mind want to get 150+ emails over 2 days about one topic? Well, maybe I suppose, if WSOs is your entire business.

Had something similar happen a few days ago - and it turned out to be the default was enabled to receive announcement about new WSOs from that warrior at WarriorPlus.

Others, I have no earthly idea who they are, where they got my e-mail address, yada-yada-yada.

AFAIK, clicking on the magically "unsubscribe" link has never failed yet. Ain't technology wonderful?

Still, if it becomes a chronic problem I'm with Paul about firing up the "orbital orbital nuclear death ray platforms"!

Just make sure you're targeting the real perp...

I also getting this type of crap email. After unsubscribe they still spamming my mail box. I hate this kind of dishonest marketer. Always keep your mail address 100 miles away from freebie. But if you need to check any of them, then take a service from temporary mail service! 10 Minute Mail

That website belongs to Ian Del Carman who is also a Warrior but could be someone else sending the emails to look like him.

I was on his list for a little bit but the emails stopped after I unsubscribed.

That's the confusing thing. I did notice his name on some of these messages, but not all. I can't believe he'd use this tactic. He's been around quite some time and this is the first time I had this kind of problem with him (or whoever is doing it).

Not all of these spam emails have his name, but the same server, so it's possible I suppose that they are not all coming from him.

A month or so back, I returned one of his emails to point out that they are coming with all the header in the message. He said it wasn't supposed to look like that and he'd make changes to fix it. I guess he never did.

It'd be good if he could come here and offer input into what's happening.

Yes, you are correct - he does not sign his name to each one. I believe some are auto-generated, but I don't know - they just appeared that way to me.

I'm surprised that some are saying they keep coming after unsubscribing. I unsubbed and never got another one from him.

Well, unless someone is "taking his name in vain". LOL! (Sending email to look like they're from him.)

Actually, I was just looking to see if I could stop Outlook from downloading from that email account, but it's not even listed as one of my email accounts there !!!

But certainly I can dump that email. It means nothing to me.

      Sylvia

P.S.: I did just send a message to somebody to unsubscribe me. Have to wait and see.

Could be more options than that. A rogue ESP, as one example.

This is why Rule #1 is so important.

An email service provider (list host or autoresponder firm in this case) that allows spamming to be done using their systems, with no intention of enforcing any sort of community or "netiquette" norms.

I opted in to a list from Ian and it appears these are coming from him or at least they are coming to the same tagged address I used with Ian. They started out of the blue about a month ago.

Spam? Can't say that if it's coming from him because I did opt-in (even though I didn't request these).

Unwanted? Too many, not very interested, a hassle. Yes unwanted but I have looked at a couple of them for ideas. Would I buy from that link? NO because I feel I'm being bombarded against my wishes.

On a side note, I somehow got on two of his lists - requested to unsubscribe from one and it went through without any problem.

I spoke too soon - my unsubscribed email somehow got subscribed again. So I went to unsubscribe again and two very disturbing things happened when I clicked the unsubscribe link (edited by me - http://www.wsoalerts.us/cgi-bin/arp3/ arp3-un.pl?c= xxxx&p= xxxxxxx&scope=all) :

      1. I was taken to an WSO instead of an unsubscribe page as you'd imagine. http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...tutorials.html

      2. ****************Edited by me - this problem apparently was coincidental and not related. Unfair to keep it up here. *******

Ian please immediately remove the 2 email addresses with PC Security 101 in them immediately from all your systems. I will NOT send you a PM, submit a help ticket, or click any other links of yours.

It appears that the software install is from something else. However I took it to be from Ian because the unsubscribe button redirected me to the WSO and the software install popped up at the same time for the first time ever. Nevertheless I apologize.

The unsubscribe button still goes to the WSO though. Not a good way to feel good about being on someone's list. It's been a couple days and apparently no one feels this is important enough to fix or address.

This issue has been fixed. And the emails are only sent to our opt-in subscribers & customers BTW. There's an unsubscribe link on our broadcasts that works fine.

FYI, we can't speak for WarriorPlus Notifications that send instant WSO Alerts. WSO buyers are subscribed there after purchase and I hope Warriors won't be confused here.

I think it's from Akamai (spelling) which handles updates for Adobe and others. I apologize again for mentioning it in conjunction with this problem - it was just coincidental that it all happened at the same time.

    I have the same issue.

Been receiving dozens of emails in each of 3 accounts on one of my domains. One account in particular is getting quite a few.

Viewing the message source, the email return address is admin@ wsoalerts.us

    from warrior.wsoalerts.us ([216.18.20.12])

    That's not you Ian?

Anyway, I clicked on the link provided to "change" my preferences - no direct link to unsub in the emails, and it took me to a long form where I finally found the unsub option. Checking that and clicking "submit" then took me to a wso, lol.

Now going to check the others and unsub and wait and see what happens.

A little digging shows that it is indeed Ian's site. And I have also had problems with blatent spam from that site. I have never signed up for an WSO service sites other than Warrior Plus so I should not be getting any email from anyone but Mike.

The site's whois info shows admin contact at another site, which Ian has listed on his twitter account as his site. This is pretty strong evidence that Ian does own the site in question.

Oh, I believed this has been fixed. If you still get the same issue, please pm me the email address subscribed and will forward to my tech team to check. We'll do a global unsubscribe so you'll never receive emails even from my other newsletters.

There was an accidental mix-up of subscribers of my Fireball News ezine, buyers list, paying members, and my WSO alerts when we moved the autoresponder to a new system so I apologize for that.

Again, just please pm me for the info and I'll take care of you personally. Or you can contact my tech team at Customer Care : Fireball Online

For everyone reading this, only people who subscribed to my newsletters before are having this issue. We have IP addresses of our subscribers on file. If you are not my subscriber and never heard of me before, you have a different issue. Check your subscriptions. Other marketers and even WarriorPlus have their own WSO Alerts. I hope that's clear.
